中西方教育差异的原因

3 The Reasons for the Differences

Different countries have their own methods of education, so the education is different

from each other. And consequently, the acknowledgment of the factors that affect the

education differences will facilitate the understanding of such differences, part of

which will be discussed in the followings. Since it is different for us to cover all of the

reasons in this eassy, the factors which are discussed here are some important factors

to effect the differences in education between western and China.

3.1 Education System

One of the education different reasons between western and China is education

system. Education in the western is compulsory for everyone between the ages of five

to sixteen. This is the absolute minimum length of time that students attend

educational establishments. Increasingly, children attend nursery schools at the age of

three or four, and more Britons every year are staying in education after the age of

sixteen. Educational institutions are expanding fast to meet the increased demands.

There are also have two parrallel school system: The first one is the state system,

where education is provided free and the other one is the independent system, where

parents normally pay fees. However in China it is different. Education, one of the

fundamental Chinese traditions entered to a new era of deep transformation with

arouses of new P.R.C. As a vital tool of centralization and unification, it faces,

however, several fundamental technical problems. The stake of the issue: It will not

affects only the future development of young P.R.C, but also questions the legitimacy

of communist dictatorship and its avocation as whole. And it has six years of primary

school, three years of junior middle school, three years of senior middle school and

four years of college students life. The students do not have their own time to do what

they really want to do. May be the different education system play a very important

role in the education.

3.2 Cultural Background

Different people from different cultures may have different understandings of the

same sentence because they know little about the target cultures. So the different

cultures must cause the different education in different countries. In China,

Confucianism, Taoism, Moist, Legalists, Loicians and other ideologies play the most

important role in Spring, Autumn and Warring’s periods of China. Chinese also

believe Four Books and Five Classics. However different ideologies developed and

combated each other, the basic framework of Chinese civilization was established.

And then Confucianism became the foundation stone of Chinese philosophy system.

The western culture is different from China, Christianity is the central ideologie in

people’s mind and heart. They believe in it and respect it, they think it is reputable.

Christianity is the region based on the life and teaching of Jesus Christ who is the founder of the Christianity. They believe in the God, the Son and the Holy Spirt. The

western people often go to the church when they have time and they have their own

relieves. There are also many festivals to celebrate in the western countries, and the

Christmas Day is one of the most important festivals, people celebrate it on December

25th in every year. However, the power of the church cannot compare with the past

time, it still influence many aspects of people’ daily life.

As a cultural phenomenon, religion, which is the manifestation of different cultures, is

the vital part of human thought. It penetrates into every possible aspect of people's life,

which consequently causes great cultural difference between people with different

religious beliefs. China is a multi-religious country, yet comparatively speaking,

Buddhism has a greater influence in Chinese culture. It was first introduced into

China in the first century AD, and has shaped the Chinese language, diet, arts, etc.,

and greatly stimulated the development of Chinese literature. Besides, to the ordinary

Chinese, Heaven is the supreme ruler of the world. In contrast to the Chinese, most of

the westerners are Christians, who believe that the world was created by God, and that

everything in the world is arranged and disposed of according to God's will. The

teachings and beliefs concerning Christianity are recorded in the Bible, which has

contributed a great deal to English idioms, for many English people who believe in

Christianity all read the Bible.

So different cultures lead to the different education and different styles of thinking

and the different cultural background is one of the reasons to cause the differences.
