小学五年级给父亲的一封信英语作文

Dear Dad,

I hope this letter finds you well and that work is going okay. I

miss you a lot since you've been away on your business trip.

Mom says you'll be back in a couple of weeks though, so that's

good. I can't wait to tell you all about what's been happening at

school and show you some of the projects I've been working on.

Let me start by telling you about the science fair we had last

week. Remember how I told you I wanted to do an experiment

about plants? Well, I ended up testing whether plants grow

better with classical music or rock music playing. I got two of the

same type of plant and put one in the classroom with a small

speaker playing classical music for an hour each day. The other

plant was in the gym with rock music playing at the same time.

I made sure to water them the same amount and put them in

the same kind of soil. It was really hard work hauling those heavy

planters back and forth every day! But I wanted to make sure it

was a fair test. After three weeks of observing them, the plant

listening to the classical music ended up growing taller and

having more leaves. I think the classical music must have made it

grow better because it was more relaxing. For my display, I printed out pictures showing the growth

over time and made a little diorama with the two planters

side-by-side. I also recorded some of the music I played and had

it looping on a little speaker. A lot of people stopped to look at

my project and thought it was really creative. I even won a ribbon

for outstanding elementary plant sciences project! I was so

proud and wished you could have been there to see it.

In other news, our reading group just finished the book

Holes by Louis Sachar. It's about this kid named Stanley who gets

sent to a weird camp in the desert to dig holes as punishment.

But there ends up being this big mystery and adventure around

finding treasure. The book was so good and full of suspense that

we didn't want it to end. For our final project, my group

reenacted a scenario from the book where Stanley first arrives at

the camp. We made props out of cardboard boxes and stuff from

around the classroom. Miguel was Stanley, Tanesha played the

warden, and I was Mr. Sir, the mean counselor who makes the

kids dig holes. We filmed our skit on Mom's tablet and are going

to edit it together to show the class.

Oh, and you'll never guess what happened during recess last

week! Freddie Cooper's football went flying over the fence onto

the field behind the school. Of course, none of us are allowed to retrieve balls from there because it's near the road. But Freddie

said he had to get it because it was his brand new ball from his

dad. So he jumped the fence and went after it. Well, he got the

ball, but ended up slipping in some mud and tearing a big hole

in his pants! When he came waddling back to the playground

with his underwear showing, everyone started cracking up. I felt

kind of bad for him, but it was also the funniest thing. He got in

super big trouble and had to call his mom from the office to

bring him new clothes. I'll try not to laugh about it too much

when I tell you, but you would've loved seeing it.

In math, we've been learning about fractions and how to

convert between improper fractions and mixed numbers. It's

pretty complicated, but I've been getting the hang of it. Last

week we had a worksheet where we had to change an improper

fraction like 29/4 into a mixed number. The steps are: first you

divide the top number by the bottom number to get the whole

number part. So 29/4 = 7 with a remainder of 1. Then you put the

7 in front and the remainder 1 over the original bottom number

4 to make 7 1/4. It sounds confusing when I explain it, but going

through the examples in class made it click for me finally. Maybe

we can practice some fractions stuff when you get home if I get

stuck on the homework. Speaking of home, I've been helping out more with chores

since you've been gone. I've been in charge of taking out the

trash and recycling each week and cleaning the bathroom every

Saturday. I know, I know, you're probably thinking "he better be

doing those chores even when I'm home!" But I've been really

trying hard to stay on top of it to help Mom out. She works so

hard at her job and cooking dinners for us. I don't know how she

does it all. But I hope me taking care of those few tasks has made

things a little bit easier on her while you're away.

Only a couple more weeks until you're back! I still have so

much more I want to tell you - about the kickball tournament

coming up, the book I just started called The Giver, and how my

Pokemon card collection is going. I'll save those stories for when

I can tell you in person. I've just missed having you around so

much. The house doesn't feel complete without you here. Mom
