必修五Unit4 Making the news reading课时作业Ⅰ. 阅读理解AMy students entered the art room with their usual eagerness to see what they would be learning in today’s class. Little did they know they were going to be students for a new teaching method that is spreading the nation.I often use videos as previews and supplements (补充) to our art lessons providing students with a variety of artists showing their skills in real-life situations outside the classroom. Finding a new painting technique called glue batik(胶水蜡染), I thought of something new I hadn’t tried befor e! How awesome would it be to learn a new technique together with artists? The lesson was planned, presented to the students without any introduction or set objectives. I also asked the students to watch and pause the video as often as they needed to.They watched as the artist explained and showed her skills, taking notes on her steps and results. After the video, they shared what they felt the artist’s objectives were, her end result using art vocabulary as well as the steps they would need to know to present their own examples. Then they began creating their works using the glue batik technique.Surfing the Internet a couple of weeks later, I found that the teaching method I used sounded very familiar to a new movement in education called flipped teaching, which was developed by Jonathan Bergmann. He asked his students to watch video lectures at home and do exercises (homework) in class under supervision (监督). He found that grades went up and he also found time for other types of activities, which Bergmann states are more important than the videos.Back to my art class, the students were learning to get ideas, make predictions, and explain reasoning to their classmates. Together they compared, asked questions and made discoveries as they presented the technique. 1. Which of the following is one of the benefits of flipped teaching?A. Teachers needn’t check students’ homework.B. Students can control their own learning pace.C. Students can choose whatever they want to learn.D. Teachers can develop their own teaching methods.【答案】B【解析】细节理解题。

He couldn’t have cared less what he sounded like until Kevin started talking about the tryout for the City Boys’ Choir(合唱团).“Yeah, I’m attending the tryout this weekend,” he heard Kevin boasting. “With my voice, they’ll want me to perform lots of solos(独唱).” Everyone around the school knew that Kevin had a fantastic singing voice.Bright and early Saturday morning, Alexander came to the tryout. Every boy looked nervous except Kevin. When Alexander’s turn came, he pretended he was singing in the shower. He felt satisfied when he was done, at least until Kevin’s turn came. As Kevin’s confident voice filled the room, Alexander realized that he would never sound that good. After the individual performances, Mr Robeson, choir director, put them into groups of four and asked them to sing again as a group. When the groups finished singing, Mr Robeson began the interview process. He asked Alexander about his performanceexperience and any training he’d received. All Alexander could say was “I just really enjoy singing. I sing all the time, and I want to learn more.”The next afternoon, Alexander anxiously rode his bicycle to see the list of new members. There must have been some mistake. His name was on the list, and Kevin’s name was not. Curiosity drove Alexander to Mr Robeson for the reason.“You love singing. Your voice isn’t the best, but with training it will improve quite a bit. Talent alone is not enough. We needed boys who were willing to work hard. We weren’t looking for soloists. We were looking for boys who seemed to have the right voice and attitude to be part of th e choir.” On this explanation, Alexander nodded and climbed on his bicycle, singing all the way.()1.What is true about Kevin?A.He performed solos in the City Boys’ Choir.B.He was nervous in the tryout.C.He failed to join the City Boys’ Choir.D.He was ignored by Alexander.()2.The word “individual” in Paragraph 4 probably means “”.A.particularB.separateC.indifferentD.careful()3.Why could Alexander win the tryout for the choir?A.He had a better schedule for practising.B.He loved to sing and had the right attitude.C.He was brave enough to try out.D.He didn’t want to be a soloist.Ⅳ.写作第一节应用文写作假定你是李华,暑期在纽约学习,并得知了当地博物馆要举办中国瓷器(china)展。

Unit 4 Making the news课时作业Learning about languageⅠ阅读理解Ato their historical range in the IliBalkhash region, and signed an agreement with World Wide Fund for Nature(WWF) to conduct a tiger reintroduction program. “It will not only bring wild tigers back to their ancestral home, but also protect the unique ecosystem of the IliBalkhash region,” said Askar Myrzakhmetov, the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan. If successful, Kazakhstan will be the first country in the world to bring wild tigers back to an entire region where they have died out for nearly half a century. Tiger reintroduction projects have only been achieved within national borders and in areas that are considered current tiger habitats(栖息地). Kazakhstan’s tiger reintroduction program is unique and it desperately requires the restoration of a vast forest that is part of the wild tiger’s historical range.Since the beginning of the 20th century, wild tigers have lost over 90 percent of their historical range. Wild tigers have completely disappeared from the region since the late 1940s, due to the loss of habitat. To prepare for the return of wild tigers, on 1st January 2018 Kazakhstan will set up a new nature reserve in the southwestern IliBalkhash, in order to restore the unique forest habitat. This will include the protection of existing wildlife, and reintroducing important prey(猎物), such as the endangered wild Bactrian deer.Restoring tigers will also help protect Lake Balkhash and prevent it from repeating the fate of the Aral Sea, formerly the world’s fourth largest lake and now 10 percent of its original size. “The hard work remains ahead of us. We have to spare no effort to make this region ready for tigers and involve all stakeholders(利益相关者) to make this happen. That means dealing with illegal activities, having these people who govern parks be welltrained and equipped, increasing prey populations and involving local communities,”said Ekaterina Vorobyeva, Director of the WWF program.语篇导读哈萨克斯坦通过与世界自然基金会签订协议以及设立新的自然保护区等举措开启野生老虎重新引入项目。
