ALoulan, an ancient city in the Lop Nur, was first “discovered” by Swedish explorer Sven Hedin in 1900. The finding of Loulan brought about new and unexpected fame for the ancient history of the Central Asia and thus began the exploration of the Taklamakan Desert. The City of Loulan is known both in China and throughout the world as the Middle Kingdom's “Pompeii” in the desert and one of the cradles of the civilization. It wasn't hard to imagine how excited Sven Hedin must have been when he was awarded the Victoria Medal by the Royal Geography Association. From that point forward, the mysterious covering of Loulan was gradually lowered and was no more a silent unknown hero but became an immediate worldwide sensation(引起轰动的事). Adventurers from America, Britain, Japan and Sweden, including Huntington, Stein, Otani Kozui and Bergman set foot here for several times. In the 1930s, Chinese archaeologist Huang Wenbi came here for the first time and made a survey of this area, which was found even then in terrible conditions due to uncontrolled digging with many wonderful cultural historic relics takenaway to distant foreign lands. In 1979, a group of tombs called Sun Tombs, known for their unique and attractive burial forms, were unearthed in the Gumugou Graveyard, the public graveyard of the Lop Nur citizens in the Bronze Age. In early 1980s, in the Tiebanhe River Delta area of the lower reaches of the Peafowl River in Lop Nur, a female mummy dating back some 3,800 years was unearthed and was considered by the Japanese as the “Loulan Beauty”. This set off a wave of current exploration of theSilk Road. The archaeological unearthing being currently conducted in the Xiaohe(Small River) Graveyard is now the focus of the world's most important academic event. The Xiaohe Graveyard, 175km west of the City of Loulan, is located in the lower reaches of the Peafowl River in the Lop Nur. When the Graveyard was found, it is said that there were some 1,000 coffins. It is large in scale with sand dunes(沙丘) as high as eight metres, on which about 140 wooden stakes(树桩) in various shapes were closely arranged. These burial customs are, to say the least, unusual...with the unearthed relicsdated back to China's most ancient days.21.Which of following statements shows the correct position of the City of Loulan?A.It lies in the Tiebanhe River Delta.B.It lies in the lower reaches of the Peafowl River.C.It lies south of the Gumugou Graveyard.D.It lies 175 km east of the Xiaohe Graveyard.22.Which of the following is the closest in meaning to the word “Pompeii”?A.A city as world famous as the Middle Kingdom's “Pompeii”.B.A buried city in the desert of great historical value.C.A buried city to be unearthed like the Italian city “Pompeii”.D.A city visited by many archaeologists all over the world like “Pompeii”.23.From the passage, it can be inferred that ________.A.it was a Chinese archaeologist that first discovered the City of Loulan B.it is of the greatest importance and value to be unearthing the Xiaohe Graveyard C.foreign adventurers did much damage to the exploration and relics of the City of Loulan D.one after another important discovery about Loulan was made, causing worldwide sensationBYou put a great deal of effort into reaching the college of your choice. It's time to get started. But what's next? Beginning college can be an exciting but awkward time. Follow these tips to adjust to your new life rapidly and make the most of your college experience.●To save time and money, use the college's bus system. Taking the bus to school is quick, easy and free in most college towns. You won't have to locate or afford a place to park, either. It's also a goodway to be environmentally aware.●Save pennies on books by waiting until class starts. You might not even need all of the recommended books. New textbooks cost an arm and a leg. Try buying used textbooks—it's a sure fair way to save money and serves the purpose as well.●Do never look at college life as an endless series of parties and social activities. But there is a whole lot more to college if you're serious about graduating. Having a good college experience is allabout balancing work and fun.●Be aware that your living environment can largely affect your academic success. If the dorm doesn't suit you, consider living at home with your family or renting your own apartment. The best location for your studies isn't always your dorm. Find a quiet area, like the library, to do your work.Alternatively, buy some headphones that block out noise.●Be mindful of your diet. Make healthy food choices and watch what you eat. Avoid foods that are processed or high in sugar. The “freshman 15”is real. Many college students gain at least 15pounds during their freshmen year.●While electives(选修课) can be helpful when figuring out your major, you shouldn't entirely rely on them. Clubs and other organizations exist around. Get involved. Make sure, though, that you still have time to study. Having_too_much_on_your_plate can hurt your grades.24.Which of the following ideas can be financially wise?A.Driving your own car.B.Buying used books.C.Renting an apartment.D.Attending activities.25.In the text, freshmen are repeatedly warned against ________.A.academic failures B.physical problemsC.traffic accidents D.social activities26.The “freshman 15”tells the fact that some freshmen ________.A.attend limited activities on campusB.have little regular physical exerciseC.focus less on their academic workD.take relaxed attitudes to their diets27.The underlined phrase “Having too much on your plate”probably refers to ________.A.using too much money for mealsB.eating too many unhealthy foodsC.taking part in too many afterclass activitiesD.taking an elective that has too many studentsCA huge cloud of dust rose and an overpass disappeared. This was the scene in Zhuzhou, HunanProvince on May 17.Nine people were killed and 16 injured.Things were similar last year in the Sichuan earthquake. Thousands of people were buried in the ruins and lost their lives. What if we could have warned them?People are always racking_their_brains to find a way of preventing buildings' collapse. Better materials and technology help, but they are not a solution.Just like humans, a building has its own life cycle from “birth” to “death”. If we know when a building is going to collapse, we can repair it in advance or get out of it before it falls. Now, scientists at the University of Illinois have developed a material that turns red before it breaks. The invention could be used in things like climbing ropes or bridge supports. The research was led by Nancy Sottos, a professor at the university's Beckman Institute, andDouglas Davis, a graduate research assistant. The secret behind the colorchanging material is a type of molecule (分子). A molecule is a group of atoms held together by chemical bonds. Imagine you and your friends standing in a circle, holding hands. Each person stands for one atom, your hands represent the bonds, and the entire circle represents a molecule. If one person lets go of his or her hands, the molecule changes color. The research team put the molecule into a soft material. When the researchers stretched the material, it turned bright red for a few seconds before it broke into two pieces. When they repeatedly stretched and relaxed the material, without breaking it, it only turned a little red.The major problem is that light can get rid of the red color. When the team shone bright light on the molecule, the broken bond was fixed, and the color disappeared. If the bright light keeps the red color from appearing, the material's warning system will be useless. Scientists still have a lot of work to do before the color-changing molecules can be used outside thelab.28.What does the passage mainly introduce?A. The collapse of an overpass in Zhuzhou, Hunan Province.B. The Sichuan earthquake.C. A material that turns red before it breaks.D. A way of preventing building from collapsing.29.The underlined words “racking their brains”in the third paragraph mean ________.A. suffering a lotB. collecting beyond imaginationC. losing a lotD. thinking very hard30.Which of the following is a WRONG statement?A. A new material has been applied to buildings to warn people of collapse.D. A color-changing material can turn red before it breaks.31.What can we infer from the passage?A. The color-changing molecules are certain to be used outside the lab.B. There will be no collapse with the help of the color-changing material.C. There is a long way to go before the material can be applied.D. The problem caused by bright light will be solved by scientists.DMonitoring the mood of a pet dog could be used as an early warning sign that an elderly owner isstruggling to cope, a new report has claimed.Researchers placed movement sensors(探测器) on dogs to track their behaviour and identified 17 distinct activities, including chewing, barking, sitting and digging. This allowed them to map the normal behaviour of a healthy, happy dog, which means any changes can be monitored and couldindicate an issue with their owner.Nils Hammerla, part of the team from Newcastle University, said, “Humans and dogs have lived together in close relationships for thousands of years, which has led to strong emotional and socialmutual bonds.”“A dog's physical and emotional dependence on their owner means that their well-being is likely to reflect that of their owner. Any changes such as the dog being walked less often, perhaps not being fed regularly, or simply demonstrating “unhappy” behaviour could be an early indicator for families that an older relative needs help. This is the first system of its kind which allows us to remotelymonitor a dog's behaviour i n its natural setting.”The team of academics, who presented their findings at the 2013 UbiComp conference in Zurich, created a hitech, waterproof(防水的) dog collar for the study.Dr Cas Ladha, who led the study, said:“A lot of our research is focused on developing intelligent systems that can help older people to live independently for longer. But developing a system that reassures family and carers that an older relative is well without intruding on (侵犯) the individual's privacy is difficult. This is just the first step but the idea behind this research is that it would allow us to support peop le without the need for cameras.”A range of dogs was used for the study, as the team needed to map distinct behaviours that correlatedbetween different breeds.32.From the text, we know that Nils Hammerla________.A.led the study and identified 17 activities of dogsB.thinks some activities of dogs can reflect senior owners' healthC.studied the relationship between humans and animalsD.developed a hitech, waterproof dog collar33.The underlined word “reassures”in Paragraph 7 probably means________.A.protect B.comfortC.warn D.recognize34.Which of the following is an advantage of the intelligent system mentioned in the text?A.It can indicate that people aren't well.B.It can identify different activities of dogs.C.It monitors an elderly owner without disturbing his privacy.D.It lets people see the dog's behavior clearly.35.Which of the following could be the best title for the text?A.Dogs' mood can be an indicator of owners' healthB.Strong bonds between dogs and their senior ownersC.Signs that your older relative needs helpD.A special way of taking care of the old第二节(共5小题;每小题2分, 满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。

Women often feel bad about being single, despite how satisfying their lives are otherwise. Turns out, there are a few reasons you might feel that romantic ennui(单身厌烦症):you may not be prioritizing what you really want. Allowing what other people want for you to cloud your judgment can send you down that dark, "I'm dying alone" spiral. Global surveys have found that cultural norms and expectations are what determine our self-esteem, even if we claim we're above the pressure. The truth is that marriage won't make everyone happier. And those fear-inducing headlines aren't helping." It's amazing how year after year after year, people are making this claim that if you get married, you'll get happier," author of Singled Out, De Paulo said. She explained that many of those academic studies that make for splashy,fear-inducing headlines aren't procedurally sound. The main problem is that conditions in clinical studies have to be randomly assigned -- which isn't possible when you're researching single vs. married people. Another "methodologically shameful" tactic in these studies, she explained, is that many only compare those who are currently married to single people and completely ignore those who got married, hated it and got divorced.Yes, you're still "great" and more than capable of living a happy, fulfilling life, whether or not you're involved with someone romantically. But also know that feeling waves of self-doubt and insecurity are totally normal. You may never want to get married-- or you may be open to the possibility of meeting someone without actively looking for a relationship. All of this awareness, however, won't always assuage all of your fears and insecurities, and that's OK. If you feel sad sometimes, it's not because you're single -- it's because you're alive.66.What determines our self-esteem?A. Cultural normsB. ExpectationsC. HappinessD. A and B67.Which is TRUE according the text?A. You may not be prioritizing what you really want.B. Academic studies. are procedurally sound.C. If you get married, you'll get happier.D. Only if you get married , you must be happier.D. Not everyone who is married is happy.70.What’s the purpose of the text?A. To tell us how to become a successful woman.B. To explain the reason why we are single.C. To tell us being single is happy.D. To tell us how to find a boyfriend..Part IV Writing (45 marks)Section A (10 marks)Directions: Read the following passage. Fill in the numbered blanks by using the information from the passage. Write NO MORE THAN THREE WORDS for each answer.“Drink your milk. It is good for you!”You’ve probably heard that many times, and it is true. Milk contains calcium(钙), which is a necessary nutrient(营养物质) for keeping bones and teeth strong. Drinking milk is a common practice in America for students. The U.S. government even requires milk as part of the National School Lunch Program, saying that students should drink one cup of fat-free or low-fat milk at each meal.On July 18th, 2012, however, a group of doctors asked the government to remove milk from the lunch program. The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) says, “Milk is high in sugar, high in fat and high in animal protein(蛋白质),”all of which have negative effects on health. The PCRM says that there are better and healthier ways to get calcium such as eating beans, cereals(谷类) and tofu. Orange juice and soymilk that have calcium added to them also supply the nutrient. “The only reason people talk about milk, or promote it, is that it is going to help build strong bones,”says Dr. Neal Barnard, president of the PCRM. But milk may not be the best way to get the calcium your body needs.Of course, calcium is important for healthy bones and teeth, but there are other things that affect the strength of your bones, such as genes, how much vitamin D you take in and getting an hour’s worth of exercise every day.The U.S. government is studying the demand of the PCRM, but a decision may be a long way off.Meanwhile, Marion Nestle, a professor at New York University, said, “Milk certainly has nutrients. Other foods have the same nutrients. It is just a food. Like other foods, too much might be a problem.”Directions: Read the following passage. Just take a moment to write it down after you eat or drink. If you are out in public and don’t have your notebook, write it on a piece of paper and add it to your notebook later. Don’t leave anything at all out, but keep it very general for right now.The next step is to start being more specific(具体的). Gradually become more and more detailed with your entries (条目). Force yourself to be as specific as you can.Regularly look back at your entries. You will probably be shocked by what you are putting in your body.81. Why should you keep a food diary? A.shouting at B.facing C.looking at D.shaking4.How is the passage mainly organized?A.By giving examples.B.By following time orderC.By making comparisons.D.By presenting a general idea.BI had an experience some years ago which taught me something about the ways in which people make a bad situation worse by blaming themselves. One January, I had to conduct two funerals on successive days for two elderly women in my community. Both had died "full of years," as the Bible would say; both yielded to the normal wearing out of the body after a long and full life. Their homes happened to be near each other, so I paid condolence (吊唁) calls on the two families on the same afternoon. At the first home, the son of the dead woman said to me, "If only I had sent my mother to Florida and gotten her out of this cold and snow, she would be alive today. It's my fault that she died." At the second home, the son of the other dead woman said, "If only I hadn't insisted on my mother's going to Florida, she would be alive today. That long airplane ride, the abrupt change of climate, was more than she could take. It's my fault that she's dead."When things don't turn out as we would like them to, it is very tempting to assume that had we done things differently, the story would have had a happier ending. Priests(牧师) know that any time there is a death, the survivors will feel guilty. Because the course of action they took turned out badly, they believe that the opposite course - keeping Mother at home, delaying the operationwould have turned out better. After all, how could it have turned out any worse? There seem to be two elements involved in our readiness to feel guilt. The first is our pressing need to believe that the world makes sense, that there is a cause for every effect and a reason for everything that happens. That leads us to find patterns and connections both where they really exist and where they exist only in our minds. The second element is the concept that we are the cause of what happens, especially the bad things that happen. It seems to be a short step from believing that every event has a cause to believing that every disaster is our fault. The roots of this feeling may lie in our childhood. Psychologists speak of the infantile(幼儿的) myth of omnipotence (万能). A baby comes to think that the world exists to meet his needs, and that he makes everything happen in it. He wakes up in the morning and orders the rest of the world to its tasks. He cries, and someone comes to attend to him. When he is hungry, people feed him, and when he is wet, people change him. Very often, we do not completely outgrow that infantile concept that our wishes cause things to happen.1. What is said about the two dead elderly women?A. They lived out a natural life.B. They died of exhaustion after the long plane ride.C. They weren't accustomed to the change in weather.D. They died due to lack of care by family members.2. The author had to conduct the two women's funerals probably because ________.A. he wanted to comfort the two familiesB. he was an official from the communityC. he had great sympathy for the deadD. he was priest of the local church3. People feel guilty for the deaths of their loved ones because ________A. they couldn't find a better way to express their deep sorrowB. they believe that they were responsibleC. they had overlooked the natural course of eventsD. they didn't know things often turn out in the opposite direction4. In the context of the passage, "... the world makes sense" (Line2, Para4) probably means that_______.A. everything in the world is decided in advanceB. the world can be interpreted in different waysC. there's an explanation for everything in the worldD. we have to be sensible in order to understand the world5. People have been made to believe since infancy that ________.A. everybody is at their commandB. life and death is an unsolved mysteryC. every story should have a happy endingD. their wishes are the cause of everything that happensCMy mother has always been a follower of traditional methods when it comes to anything. She cooks traditional food, likes dressing up traditionally and likes the traditional way of shopping. She loves going to markets and going from one shop to another to find out what suits her best. She can walk miles when it comes to shopping along with her friends. She knows all the local markets and shops and knows very well where she can get best discounts(折扣).However, now she always gets tired when she goes out in the market. So one day I decided to introduce a new shop, which is much larger than usual markets and where she can also get discounts.I am talking about online gift stores. I ordered a Timex watch and a Sisley handbag for her. She never bought things online, but when they were delivered as a gift, she jumped for joy. She could not believe that I had ordered these gifts for her despite her being not much positive about online shops. However, after she saw both the products, she was assured that these online gift shops sent the promised brands and products, she loved her new watch and handbag. After this experience she ordered a gift for her friend's wedding. She chose a gift basket that could be made according to her requirements. They sent a beautifully decorated basket with fine winesand chocolates. Then answer the questions or complete the statements in the fewest possible words.Pronouncing a language is a skill. Every normal person is expert in the skill of pronouncing his own language; but few people are even good at pronouncing foreign languages. Now there are many reasons for this, some obvious, some perhaps not so obvious. But I suggest that the main reason why people in general do not speak foreign languages very much better than they do is that they fail to recognize the importance of learning to pronounce, and as a result never set about trying it in the right way. Far too many people fail to realize that pronouncing a foreign language is a skill -- one that needs careful training of a special kind, and one that cannot be acquired by just leaving it to take care of itself. I think even teachers of language, while recognizing the importance of a good accent, tend to neglect, in their practical teaching, the study about speakingthe language. So the first point I want to make is that English pronunciation must be taught; the teacher should be prepared to devote some of the lesson time to this, and should get the students to feel that here is a matter worthy of receiving his close attention. So, there should be times when other aspects of English, such as grammar or spelling, are allowed for the moment to take second place.Besides this question of the time given to pronunciation, there are two other requirements for the teacher: the first, knowledge; the second, technique. It is important that the teacher should have the necessary information. This can generally be obtained from books. It is possible to get from books some idea of the basic structure of speech, and of what we call general phonetic theory. It is also possible in this way to get a clear mental picture of the relationship between the sounds of different languages, between the speech habits of English people and those, say, of your students. Unless the teacher has such a picture, any comments he may make on his students' pronunciation are unlikely to be of much use, and lesson time spent on pronunciation may well be time wasted.(Note: Answer the questions or complete the statements in NO MORE THAN TEN WORDS.)1. People generally don't speak foreign languages quite well mainly because of ____________.2. Although language teachers consider accent important, they __________ in their teaching.3. What should a teacher do to make his students feel they should pay attention to pronunciation?4.What may be the result(s) if the teacher himself can't figure out the differences in sounds of different languages?
ADo you know that there are actually people who have paid for a flight to the moon? In the future, there will be a lot more opportuniti es to travel to faraway places than now… perhaps even as far as the moon. As people adventure further and further away and as planes, trains, cars, and rocket ships become faster, is it safer to have these vehicles controlled by humans or by computers? While many flights by plane are controlled automatically (自动) by machines, mostpeople today wouldn‟t let their car drive itself. That‟s because now the autopilot function on your car can only keep it on the same course you are traveling on. It won‟t turn the car right or left. It won‟t stop if an animal jumps in the way. However, cars today can sense when something is too close and warn the driver with flashing lights and alarms. Many cars also haveGPS(global positioning systems)that tell drivers which road to take and when to turn. These systems, unlike human drivers, never get lost. In the future, it is easy to believe that your car will be better able to drive itself with the aid of computers that can determine the position of your car and the speed it should travel at.In addition to computers being …smarter‟ than people regarding the best way to go or knowing how close another vehicle is, computers don‟t get sick, tired, or angry. This means they won‟t make the same mistakes that people make when they are not having a good day. While responding with emot ion is a good thing when choosing the best way to deal with a friend‟s personal problem, it may not be such a good thing when deciding what to do at the wheel of a fast-moving vehicle. So what are the disadvantages of autopilot systems? Maybe one disadvantage is thata small computer problem could cause a serious accident. It could also be argued that inunexpected situations, computers might not be able to respond properly ; some decisions require human emotions. Another problem might be that if everything were controlled by computers or robots, people wouldn‟t have any jobs.21. What is the best title for the passage?A. The Development of AutopilotB. Technology of Future TravelC. A New Driving SystemD. Computerized Cars22. Which of the following is the disadvantage of an autopilot system?A. It won‟t make the same mistakes as people do.B. It can point out the best route for the driver.C. It might not respond properly to unexpected situations.D. It does not have human emotions to influence its function.23. If some falling rocks roll down toward your car, the autopilot on your car will____________.A. inform you of the dangerB. turn the car right or leftC. do nothing about itD. stop the carBAlfred Carlton Gilbert(1884-1961) was a man of many ideas and talents. As a small boy, he kept trying new things. At age 12, he started a sports club for his friends and got their school to have a field day with active games and prizes. As he grew and practiced, Gilbert became skilled at pole vaulting(撑杆跳高), pull-ups, the long jump and football.Gilbert broke the world record for pull-ups in 1900 and the distance record for running long dive in 1902. And he won a gold medal in the pole vault at the Olympic Games in 1908. By that time, he had nearly finished medical studies. Choosing not to make medicine his career, Gilbertco-founded Mysto Manufacturing, a manufacturer of magic sets, in 1907. Gilbert had amused his friends and earned college money by doing magic tricks, so he knew what was needed. One day, Gilbert saw workers using steel girders(钢梁)to build towers for power lines. That gave him the idea for the Erector Set, a popular construction toy.In 1917, the Council of National Defense thought no toys should be produced for Christmas because the country was fighting in World War I. Gilbert and other men from the Toy Manufacturers of America went to Washington, with about 40 different toys. They had 15 minutesto speak. This meeting was at the end of a long, hard day. Gilbert told the government men at the meeting how toys helped children learn. His helpers brought out the toys. Soon, the tired government men were on the floor, playing with building sets, models of navy ships, and other toys. The time limit was forgotten; so was the Christmas toy ban(禁令).Gilbert spent the rest of his life improving erector sets. His company made and sold the sets, plus chemistry and other science sets and toy trains. He made items for homes, businesses, and the army. When he died in 1961, he had 150 patents (专利)for his many inventions. But his main joy was in helping children learn and have fun at the same time.24. Are these just stereotypes or is there really such a thing as national character? And if there is, can it affect how a nation succeeds or fails? At least one group of people is certain that it can. A recent survey of the top 500 entrepreneurs(实业家) in the UK found that 70 percent felt that their efforts were not appreciated by the British public. Britain is hostile to success, they said. It has a culture of jealousy(嫉妒). As a result, the survey said, entrepreneurs were “unloved, unwanted and mis understood”. Jealousy is sometimes known as the “green-eyed monster(怪物)” and the UK is its home. Scientists at Warwich University in the UK recently tested this idea. They gathered a group of people and gave each an imaginary amount of money. Some were given a little, others a great deal. Those given a little money were given the chance to destroy the large amounts of money given to others—but at the cost of losing their own. Two thirds of the people tested agreed to do this. This seems to prove the entrepreneurs were right to complain. But there is also conflicting evidence. The Organization for Econnomic Cooperation and Development(OECD) recently reported that the UK was now the world’s fourth largest economy. That is not bad for people who are supposed to hate success. People in the UK also work longer hours than anyone else in Europe. So the British people are not lazy, either.“It’s not really success that the British dislike,” says Carey Cooper, a Professor of management at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology. “It’s people using their success in a way that seems arrogant(傲慢) or unfair or which separates them from their roots.”Perhaps it is the entrepreneurs who are the problem. They set out to do things in their way. They work long hours. By their own efforts they become millionaires. But instead of being happy they complain that nobody loves them. If they were more friendly, people would like them more. And more people want to be like them.24. What does the underlined word “it” in the second paragraph refer to?A. One group of people.B. A great survey.C. National character.D. A nation.25. Most of the British top entrepreneurs surveyed believe that ________.A. they are not popular simply because they are successfulB. the British public are hardworkingC. love of success is Britain’s national c haracterD. they are considered as “green-eyed monsters”26. What does the result of the Warwich University test show?A. Two thirds of the people tested didn’t love money.B. Most people would rather fail than see others succeed.C. An imaginary amount of money does not attract people.D. Most people are willing to enjoy success with others.27. The writer of the passage seems to suggest that _______.A. jealousy is Britain’s national characterB. British entrepreneurs are not fairly treatedC. the scientists at Warwich University did a successful testD. the British dislike the entrepreneurs because they do not behave properlyCLONDON(Reuters)—Ecotourism is causing a lot of damage to wildlife and may be endangering the survival of the very animals people are flocking to see, according to researchers.Biologists and conservationistsare worried because polar bears, dolphins, penguins and other creatures are getting stressed and losing weight and some are dying.“Evidence is growing that many animals do not react well to tourists in their backyard,” New Scientist magazine said. The immediate effects researchers have noticed are changes in behavior, heart rates, or stress hormone(荷尔蒙) levels but they fear it could get much worse and over the long term “could endanger the survival of the very wildlife they want to see”.Although money produced through ecotourism, which has been growing at about 10~30 percent a year, has major benefits for poor countries and people living in rural areas, the Swiss-based World Conservation Union and some governments fear not all projects are audited (审计) and based on environmentally friendly policies, according to the magazine.“The transmission of disease to wildlife, or small changes to wildlife health through disturbance of daily life or increased stress levels, while not obvious to the casual observer, may translate to lower survival and breeding,” said Philip Seddon of the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand.Scientists have noticed that bottleneck dolphins along the northeastern coast of New Zealand become nervously excited when tourist boats arrive. Similar changes in behavior have been observed in polar bears and yellow-eyed penguins in areas visited by ecotourists are producing smaller babies.Conservationists are not calling for more research into the effect of ecotourism on animals and say the industry must be developed carefully. They also want studies done before new ecotourism projects are started.“The animals’ welfare should be very important because with out them there will be noecotourism,” said Rochelle Constantine of the University of Auckland in New Zealand.28. What’s the passage mainly about?A. Many animals are dying because of lack of money.B. There will be no ecotourism without animals.C. Ecotourism could endanger the survival of the wildlife people want to see.D. More research should be done on ecotourism.29. We may learn from the passage that ________.A. ecotourism must be developed properlyB. polar bears are losing weight without enough foodC. all the poor countries have stopped ecotourismD. money produced through ecotourism should be spent on wildlife30.
