2016-2017学年高二上期中考试英语试卷(解析版)一、阅读理解1、阅读理解According to body language expert Robert Phipps, the way people sleep at night actually determines a lot about the type of personality they have. Phipps has identified four sleeping p ositions that affect personality.Phipps found that worriers, those who stress the most, tend to sleep in the fetal (胎儿的) position. He found that this is the most common bedtime p osition, with nearly 58 percent of people sleeping on their side with knees up and head down. The more we curl up (蜷曲), the more comfort we are seeking, according to Phipps. The second most common position is the log. Sleeping with a straight body, with arms at each side, as if they are standin g guard at Buckingham Palace, indicates stubbornness, and t hese people (the 28 percent who sleep this way) often wake u p stiffer than when they went to sleep.“The longer you sleep like this, the more rigid your thinking is and you can become inflexible, which means you make things harder for yourself,” according to Phipps.Yearner (向往) sleepers are next on the list. About 25 percent of people sl eep in this style—on their side with arms stretched out in front, looking as if they are either chasing a dream or perhaps being chased themsel ves. Yearners are typically their own worst critics, always exp ecting the best results, explained Phipps. These people often wake up refreshed and eager to face the challenges of the da y ahead.Perhaps the most peculiar (奇怪的) of sleep styles is the freefaller position. This sleep style m akes up 17 percent of the population. They sleep face down w ith arms stretched out. These people, according to Phipps, fe el like they have little control over their life. Not only is this the strangest of sleep styles, but also the least comfortable, and people may wake up feeling tired and have no energy.Inconclusion, Phipps has only one more thing to add: “A go od night's sleep set you up for the following day and our sleep ing positions can determine how we feel when we wake.”根据短文内容,选择最佳答案,并将选定答案的字母标号填在题前括号内。

Then they started shouting and yelling, and it finally turned into a horrible quarrel. To be honest, it was Zhang 's fault but Li was also to blame—they cared too much about winning and losing, thus saying some really mean things. Moreover, they they were so self-centered that they were unwilling to give way when facing conflicts. To avoid such conflicts, we should be kind to one another, which is essential to enjoy a harmonious life. It is also a virtue to think twice before we lose our temper. Instead of blaming each other, we should communicate more and put ourselves in other s place.(125)听力材料:Text 1M: Did you buy anything in town yesterday?W: Yes, look at my beautiful green sweater. And I bought this amazing red leather bag and a new skirt. M: Ooh, is that it? It’s a lovely blue colour!W:Yes.Text 2W: Jackie, do you intend to go to dance on Friday evening?M: No. I thought we could try out that new restaurant. It’s your mum’s birthday, isn’t it? You could invite her, too.W: She’d love that, I’m sure.Text 3M: I’m sorry. I really didn’t see your motorcycle. I turned so that I would miss the old lady.W: Why were you on the wrong side of the street, anyway?Text 4M: For the last time, please accept my offer! I know exactly what these things are supposed to cost. I’vebeen in this business for over twelve years, so I know what I’m talking about.W: Sir, perhaps you haven’t heard me clearly. We only sell items at fixed prices here. All p rices are final, I’m afraid.Text 5W: Honey, I’m going downtown. Do we need anything from the grocery store?M: We need some steaks and some corn for the barbecue tonight. And maybe you could get some stamps afterwards.W: All right.Text 6M: This t rain is moving so slowly, isn’t it? I can’t wait to get home.W: Me too. Have you had a hard day at work?M: Actually I’ve been travelling all day. A trip to New York.W: Lucky you!M: Well, it was pretty tough actually. I had to make arrangements for a new sports shop.W: Did it all go OK?M: Well, in the end I thought everything was going well. But I’m just worn out now.Test 7M: Hello, welcome to our program Today’s City. I’m Larry. We’re going to Louisville, Kentucky, where our guest Michelle Ray comes from. She is proud of her middle-sized city with a small town feel and big city dreams. Now Michelle, tell us about your city.W: Thank you, Larry. Here’s my city. Louisville is my city. The first place I take a visitor from out of town is to the Highlands for shopping and nightlife. When I have delicious Asian food, I always go to the Zen Garden which provides wonderful all-vegetable dishes.M: Wow, that’s interesting. Many people go for healthy food now.W: You can say that again. If I want to go camping and fishing, I go to the Red River area. For complete quiet, I can hide away in my house with a good book from one of our public libraries.M: That all sounds very exciting. I’m sure some of our listeners will include Louisville in their travel plan for their next holiday. Thank you, Michelle.Test8M: Are you OK, Lily? You don’t look very happy.W: Oh, David. I had an argument with mum again. I'm not getting enough pocket money.M: How much do you get?W: £5 a week.M: That sounds reasonable to me.W: Well, I'm 14 and if you are going to town shopping, you can never have enough money. Everything is so expensive.M: But is it fair amount of money? Compare what your friends get.W: Well, we all get the same. But I have to buy all my music things as well things for school and have hardly anything left to spend on clothes.M: Right. Do you have to help around house?W: Not really.M: So you don't have to do anything for this pocket money.W: Mum said if I did that I will never have time to do my school work.M: Has she said you can have more pocket money when you are 15?W: Well, Mum just says she'll decide when I'm ready to have more. And I've just got to wait.M: Maybe you should sit down with her and say "How can I prove that I am old enough to get more?" W: So, I should talk to her again?M: Yes, but don't argue with her. Just discuss it calmly.W: OK, thanks.Text 9W: Hey there. I’m your neighbor. My name is Shirley.M: Hi, Shirley. I’m Bob. It’s nice to meet you.W: Nice to meet you, too.M: Please come in.W: Here is a little gift for your family. It’s a calendar with all the community events on it.M: Thank you! I really appreciate it.W: Since we are neighbors, if you need any help with anything, please feel free to ask me.M: I will. Actually, I am worried about the security of this community because my house has been robbed twice before.W: Oh don’t worry about that. There are security guards on duty 24 hours a day.M: Really? That’s good. Are there any supermarkets in the neighbor hood?W: Of course. There is a Carrefour nearby. I’ll take you there sometime if you want.M: Terrific!W: By the way, there will be a party for all the new neighbors the day after tomorrow. I hope I will see you there.M: I’ll be there.W: Great. I’ve got to go. See you later!M. OK. Come and visit anytime.W: Thanks. I will!Text 10Deep Spring is an American college. It is an unusual college. It is located high in the mountains in California, not in a college town. The campus is a collection of old buildings with no beautiful classrooms. The only college-like thing about Deep Springs is its library. Students can use the 17000 books 24 hours a day. The library is never crowded because there are only 24 students at the college, and they are all male. There are only five professors. These teachers believe in the college, but they are not well-paid. In fact, they only get paid about 9000 dollars a year. The college gives teachers and students something more important than money —peace and quiet. There is no place like Deep Springs. Students are there to learn and they cannot run away from their problems because there is no place to run to. At most colleges, students can close their books and go to a film, or they can go out to restaurants or parties, but the students at Deep Springs have completely different activities. They can talk to each other or their teachers, or they can go out for a walk in the mountains, and that’s about it. Deep Springs is far from the world of restaurants and cinemas. There isn’t even one television set on campus.。
