高中英语Unit1Art单元加餐练含解析新人教版选修6110521单元加餐练Ⅰ.阅读理解Guatemala's Lake Atitlán is known for its amazing scenery: blue waters together with impressive volcanoes and Mayan villages. And now the site is about to add a rather different attraction. The lakeside comm unity of Santa Catarina Palopó is working on a project to turn itself into a beautiful piece of artwork, with a view to creating a source of tourism income for the locals. It's the brainchild of Harris Whitbeck, a Guatemalan journalist and believer in art as an agent of social change, whose family has links to the lake going back three generations. When he saw how famous Dutch artist Jeroen Koolhaas had decorated the Rio de Janeiro favela (贫民窟) of Vila Cruzeiro with lively color, the idea of painting Santa Catarina Palopó was born. “Studies show that if the physical environment of a community is improved, it is conducive to local people. There's a crimelevel fall and new businesses open up,” Whitbeck said. One of Central America's largest cement (水泥) companies, Cementos Progreso, donated lime (石灰) to make paints. Whitbeck discovered that limebased paints are cheap to produce. In fact, the villagers' ancestors were using limebased paints 5,000 years ago.The community came up with the final idea with a Guatemalan design company. There are 800 houses and enough paints for 100 so far, so an “adoptahouse” plan is being set up. Groups of up to five visitors, who pledge (抵押) D|S500, can help the family paint a house. Hotels in the area, including Casa Palopó an d Villas Santa Catarina, will offer discounts to volunteers. Whitbeck says it could take up to two years to complete the project, depending on money. The hope is that the village will attract more tourists and make money for homestays, guides, restaurants and weavers (纺织工人). “The community will determine how the project goes on,” said Whitbeck. “Painting is just the beginning.”语篇解读:危地马拉的一个湖畔社区计划了一个项目,准备把自己打造成一件美丽的艺术品,从而发展旅游业,增加当地居民的收入。

Ⅱ.阅读理解People all over the world love listening to music and most have their favourite songs which they listen to again and again. But how did it all start? When could people first choose the music they wanted to listen to?The 1900s: The player radioIn the late 19th and early 20th centuries, pianos became very popular and richfamilies bought “player pianos”. A play er piano played music that was programmed on paper rolls with holes in them and you could also play it like a “normal” piano. In the mid 1920s player pianos began to disappear mainly because the radio got more popular. The 1910s: The first phonographs (留声机)As early as 1877, there were phonographs to play music on and by the 1910s, many families had one. The music was on “records” made of aluminum foil (铝箔). People could listen to them only a few times before the foil broke. Later the music was on wax cylinders (蜡筒). These could hold longer recordings (two to four minutes), and people could play them more often. The 1920s: Gramophones and record playersGramophones were similar to the phonographs, but they used flat vinyl (乙烯基) disks and not cylinders to hold the music. The disks went round, and first a steel needle, then later a small diamond, “took” the music off the record. Some of the disks could play for more than 20 minutes per side. Today some music lovers who are crazy about disks still use vinyl records. The 1960s-1970s: Cassettes and the WalkmanIn the 1960s, the first cassette recorders became popular. A big step towards modern technology was the invention of the first portable (便携式的) cassette player, the “Walkman”, by the Japanese company, Sony in 1979. For the first time, people could listen to their favourite music while they were travelling, doing sports, or going for walks.语篇解读:本文是说明文。
