PREFACE
The 1054 Stepping Motor Drive offers a versatile package suitable for driving the
majority of 4-phase stepper motors up to 250 watts shaft power. The techniques
employed give an outstanding motor performance with high drive efficiency,
and the various options cater for a wide range of applications and control systems.
This manual gives descriptions of the various system components together with
information on installation, setting up and fault location. An introduction to
stepper motors is included for those who may not be familiar with their
characteristics.

12 VDC Bipolar/Unipolar
Step Motor Actuator
SMA-12 (Item #953276)
1. Connect any Sporlan bipolar step motor
valve to the SMA-12 by matching wire
color to terminal color, see Figure 1. For
ESX connections, refer to Figure 2. Any
12 VDC bipolar/unipolar step motor may
be tested with the SMA-12. Phase one
leads should be connected to the black
and white terminals, Phase two should be
connected to the red and green terminals.
2. Select a step rate with the selector knob.
ESX should use the 1 or 50 step rate, all
other valves may use any rate.
3. Push the open/close toggle in the close
direction to extend the driver or close the
valve.
4. Push the open/close toggle in the open
direction to retract the driver or open the
valve.
5. Observe terminal indicator lights. At rates
other than 1, indicator lights will flash
