学院:文学院年级:2010级专业:对外汉语学号:2010401117姓名:谢婷成绩:Pick Up Belief AgainInterviewer: Xie TingInterviewee: Mr. XieThe human race has entered a completely new stage in its history, with the development of technology and the increasingly rapid economic globalization and urbanization, more and more problems are brought to our attention. And do not say pollution and population, there is a big hidden danger − the lack of belief. As to the recent years of the lack of belief , I have made a interview about it. Mr. Xie is a old party member, it is obviously that his belief is the Communist Party, but there are some of out of our expectation consequents after I've made the interview. In the ordinary people's mind, there should be only one belief in one's heart, but Mr. Xie said:"I don't agree with that idea, take me as an example, I have two believes − the Communist Party and Buddhism." It is really amazing that people have two different believes, but I think we would understand the rationality after we will have listened the Mr. Xie's reasons. "The belief of the Communist Party is a reality and physical belief, and the belief of the Buddhism is a spiritual and internal belief. The former keep our society stable and make my life better, the latter give me spiritual enhancement and self-fulfillment. Although the two believes are permanent, i believe in the Buddhism before I join the Communist Party." Even though the saying is rarely seen before, it's indeed truth and reasonable. To be honest, my belief is Buddhism, and i am extremely approve the point of view that belief is permanent.Recent years, more and more people strive for commercial profit or pursuit monetary reward, being busy running about the loan of house and car, the education of children, prevent from differ disease and the pressure of work or study, there isn't spare time to think about individual belief, needless to say public belief. Only quite a few people persist in their believes at least it is in the surface. As for the current status of affairs, Mr. Xie said:"Belief is essential to a nation, it is an indispensable part of the core of national spiritual. When there is a war or a disaster, comment belief can condense strength and confidence to defeat difficulties. And the public belief is constituted by individual belief, only did we cultivated individual belief and formstrong national sense of identity, can we form public belief and become big and powerful truly."I have obtain a lot after seen Avatar,it shows a truth that nothing can defeat a nation which has strong belief. Although the human have advanced weapon and high technological robots, they can't defeat inseparable united Neville star people , because of the belief, national strong public belief, they won the victory in the end. Therefore, it is imperative for us to establish belief. I got some advices and useful tips for how to do in our daily life after I've interviewed Mr. Xie. First of all, we must recognized our status that we are Chinese people, China is an ancient country which has long-standing history and culture, we love our nation. Then, to be confident, believe that our country is going forward and will be more stronger than before, at the same time, believe ourselves. Thirdly, acknowledge that we as human are not omnipotent, there still lots of things can ruin us in an instant, only if there is fear in our heart can we think twice before we do something, always bosom a thanksgiving heart for we are still alive in the world peacefully. Fourthly, to advocate fair, I wish everything in the world are equal to everybody, and we must try our best to maintain the fair and justice. Believe that God is fair, just as the saying:"God closed a leafed door for you to open a leaf of window inevitably for you". Last but not the least, always keep mood smooth, reduce our complains about life, to keep pleasure in helping people in our daily life. Keep these tips in mind, then we will be able to establish our belief in gradually.。
1401320*** *** Lee Kuan Yew Singapore’s stern and brilliant founding father The original: Milestones --Singaporean leader Lee Kuan Yew dies-TIME April 6, 2015Before Lee Kuan Yew 's death, I almost know nothing about him. However, there are large number of media reports on him recently. I want to know why, so I choose the report. But in this report, did not describe much about his feats, Just a few small things, The emotions of ordinary people , Family responsibility and so on. Overseas, Lee was largely seen as a statesman—“legendary” (Barack Obama), “brilliant” (Rupert Murdoch),“never wrong” (Margaret Thatcher). Upon his death, a chorus of world leaders paid tribute to him. Yet when he talked about the illnesses and deaths of loved ones, Lee allowed himself a moment of vulnerability: his eyes welled up. Lee even sweated the small stuff. Citizens were told to flush public toilets. Most kinds of chewing gum were banned. So, In my opinion, he's more like a safe person.I consulted a lot of information about him on the Internet. Lee Kuan Yew Born in Singapore on September 16, 1923, became the longest-serving prime minister in world history, rose through the ranks of his country's political system before becoming the first prime minister of Singapore on June 5, 1959. Lee 's main achievement: He transformed Singapore a colonial trading post into a prosperous financial center with clean streets, shimmering skyscrapers and a stable government, and led Singapore towards a better country with peace, harmony and democracy. Singapore’s per capita GNP is now higher than that of its erstwhile colonizer, Great Britain. It has the world’s busiest port, is the third-largest oil refiner and a major center of global manufacturing and service industries. His brand of capitalism -- which stresses the role of government rather than the free hand of the market -- has provided a blueprint for China's landmark economic reforms. "This is one of the legendary figuresof Asia in the 20th and 21st centuries," U.S. President Barack Obama said. Lee was also a divisive figure, The government has restricted freedom of speech, freedom of the press and has limited other civil and political rights.in my opinion,He is very persistent and had contributed a lot to Singapore, He stood firm to his beliefs ,He looked at things wisely and firmly,he was also greatly admired by a lot of people, we can learn a lot from him.Milestones --Singaporean leader Lee Kuan Yew dies-TIME April 6, 2015it was the fall of 2005, and lee kuan Yew had been engaged in a nearly five hour interview with Time over two days. The conversation turned to family and friends, and faith as a source of strength in the face of adversity. “I would not score very highly on religious value,” said Lee, then 82, still in good health. Yet when he talked about the illnesses and deaths of loved ones, Lee allowed himself a moment of vulnerability: his eyes welled up.Emotional is not a word associated with the hardheaded, severe and disciplined Lee. Neither, seemingly, is mortal—Lee was so enduring a public figure for so long that he appeared to transcend impermanence. But in recent years a mellowing Lee openly broached the subject of dying: he felt himself growing weaker with age, he said, and wanted to go quickly when the time came. The time was 3:18 a.m. on March 23, when the 91-year-old Lee, Singapore’s Prime Minister for three decades, died in the 50th year of independence of the citystate that he molded into one of the most sophisticated places on the planet. His nation mourned his passing. “He inspired us, gave us courage, kept us together and brought us here,” said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Lee’s son. “He ... made us proud to be Singaporeans.”Lee’s life traced a long arc of modern East Asian history, with the last vestiges of colonialism, the advent of affluence, the introduction of democracy (albeit flawed and limited), the spread of globalization, the decline of Japan and the rise of China, and now the retreat to nationalism. He was not so much an architect of change—his stage, Singapore, was, perhaps regrettably for him, too small to be a global player—as an observer of the way of the world, from nation building to geopolitics to terrorism and everything in between. Overseas, Lee was largely seen as a statesman—“legendary” (Barack Obama), “brilliant” (Rupert Murdoch),“never wrong” (Margaret Thatcher). Upon his death, a chorus of world leaders paid tribute to him.But at home Lee was above all the man in charge. His ethos was both broad and narrow, often controversial and always trenchant. Government required a long reach. Economic development needed to precede democracy, and even then, civil liberties should be restricted and dissent monitored, even curtailed. The community trumped the individual. “Asian values” is what Lee and his ilk called their credo.Although Singapore holds open elections and Lee’s party always won big-partly because it delivered, partly because it commanded the most resources—he was not always a fan of democracy. “[Its]exuberance leads to undisciplined and disorderly conditions which are inimical to development,” he said. “The ultimate test of the value of a political system is whether it helps ... improve the standard of living for the majority of its people.”Whether Lee intended it or not, his template for Singapore became a model for many authoritarian governments that saw its success as an example of how prosperity could be achieved while controlling freedom.Lee even sweated the small stuff. Citizens were told to flush public toilets. Most kinds of chewing gum were banned. Spitters were heavily fined, and for some offenses, authorities inflicted caning as punishment. Tha t some of Lee’s social strictures drew mockery or censure abroad mattered little to him. The de facto covenant was this: Singapore’s officials would run the city-state effectively and cleanly, and in return its people would toe the line. “If Singapore is a nanny state, then I am proud to have fostered one,” Lee unapologetically wrote in his memoirs.Today Singapore is not as tightly wound as before. Its citizens are more vocal and the government more responsive to their grievances. But such burdens of office are no longer for Lee. No-nonsense to the end, he didn’t overthink his legacy.“I am not given to making sense out of life, or coming up with some grand narrative of it,” he wrote in 2013. “I have done what I had wanted to, to the best of my ability. I am satisfied.” So passes the man from Singapore, who became a man of his time. —zoher abdoolcarim and neel chowdhury。

The lead includes the five “W”( what where why when and who).that made the readers read the article immediately. The writer then provides the rest of the information and supporting contextual details in descending order of importance, leaving the least essential material for the very end. This gives the completed story the form of an inverted pyramid, with the most important elements, or the 'base' of the story, on top.For example, if I write, 'Two children were injured when fire swept through the First Community Church, Detroit, Michigan, on May 10. The fire is believed to have started from unattended candles.' That's complete, but a lot of details can be added in succeeding paragraphs. If space is tight, an editor can cut from the bottom and still save the essential elements."2.To create an inverted pyramid structure, follow these guidelines: 1, Use clear, meaningful headings or lists at the beginning of a topic. 2. 最新英美报刊选读EU Calls for ‘Banking Union’ to Ease CrisisBy Associated Press,TIME, Business, May 30, 2012(1)BRUSSELS — The European Union’s executive office on Wednesday called on the 17 countries in the eurozone to create a “banking union” that can centrally oversee and — if needed — bail out the sector, which has become a weak link in the continent’s financial system.(2)Bank failures have already overwhelmed the public finances of Ireland, forcing it to take an international bailout, and some fear Spain could be next. The European Commission, while recommending that Spain be given an extra year to meet its deficit targets, suggested that regulation of the entire eurozone banking sector be done centrally.(3)In its recommendations on how to deal with the financial crisis which has pushed the shared single currency to the brink, the Commission said it wants to boost cross-border management of banks, which are currently overseen by a patchwork of national regulators with different rules.(4)Part of that would see the eurozone’s permament bailout fund, the ESM, charged with paying for bank bailouts. That would protect individual governments from having their public finances overwhelmed by the cost of rescuing a bank.(5)EU Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said the ESM should be better able to help out troubled banks across national borders if need be. In the future, “the building blocks could include a banking union with integrated financial supervision and a single deposit guarantee scheme.”“Direct recapitalization by the ESM might be envisaged,” the Commission’s report said.(6)The Commission also made specific recommendations to nations mired in the financial crisis on how to manage its national budgets and rein in debt and spending.(7)Spain, which is currently the focus of the European financial crisis, should be given an extra year — to 2014 — to get its budget deficit back within European targets.(8)EU Commissioner Olli Rehn said the Spanish government should be given such an extension only if it can effectively control the excessive spending in the semi-autonomous regions and present “solid two year budget plans for 2013 and 2014.”(9)In this case, “we are ready to consider proposing an extension of the deadline to correct the excessive deficit by one year,” Rehn said.(10)European leaders will consider the Commission’s recommendations before making a ruling at a summit in June.

1. If you are in this dilemma, which school do you prefer, the public one or the private one and what are your reasons?2. What are the important factors that will attribute to a successful college student?3. How do you choose your college, what attract you most about college?Private colleges are a waste of money for white, middle class kidsBy Max EhrenfreundThese students attend the University of Maryland in College Park. They were smart. (Sarah L. Voisin /the Washington Post)⒈Many parents whose kids have their eye on an exclusive, private college face a difficult question: Is it worth unloading your life's savings orhaving your child take on tens of thousands of dollars in student loans?⒉The average four-year private college costs over $42,000 a year for tuition, room and board, after all, while the average four-year public school costs less than half that -- $18,943 for in-state students, according to the College Board. So the question is really, really important, especially at a time when nearly half of recent college grads have a job that doesn't even require a degree.⒊Fortunately, for many Americans -- white, middle-class kids -- there's an easy answer: Don't pay more to go to a private college.⒋That means choosing the University of California over Pomona, the State University of New York over NYU and the University of Maryland over nearby American or George Washington.⒌Of course, if a student is getting a scholarship that heavily discounts the cost of attendance, the question isn't as relevant. And the answer to the question is much more complicated for kids from families in other racial socioeconomic groups. But for white kids with well educated parents, what matters is getting a college degree, not where it came from.⒍For starters, take a large survey of college graduates published this year by Gallup. It asked graduates how they were doing across five different metrics, including financially, physically and socially. Eleven percent of graduates of public universities and private universities said they were"thriving" across all five. Twelve percent of graduates of U.S. News & World Report's top 100 schools were thriving, essentially the same as the rest.Gallup⒎The happiest people, in general, were the ones who developed a relationship with a mentor, participated in extracurricular activities or took on a major academic project -- all things you can do at any school.⒏The biggest predictor of whether a graduate wasn't thriving was whether he or she had student loans. Fourteen percent of those without any debt said they were thriving, compared to 2 percent of those with more than $40,000 of debt. You can't draw iron-clad conclusions from that, but thosefigures should be worrisome all the same for anyone thinking about taking on student loans. What about earnings?⒐But these are general survey findings about well-being. What about a more precise measure: the income that college grads earn?⒑Alumni of selective schools do tend to make more money after they graduate. Yet it isn't clear whether that's because they learned something especially useful while they were in school because they had greater talents to begin with.⒒Economists Stacy Dale of Mathematica Policy Research and Alan Krueger of Princeton have examined this problem carefully.⒓Relying on a survey of graduates from about two dozen colleges and other data, they compared students who applied to the most selective schools when they were in 12th grade against those who applied to schools that were still selective, albeit less so. Dale and Krueger reasoned that those who applied to the most exclusive schools were more ambitious or had more potential as judged by their parents, teachers and counselors.⒔The two economists found that the students with more potential made more as adults, and the students with less made less -- no matter wherethey went to school. They conclude that how much you make depends on you, not where you get in.⒕Although the study concentrated on graduates of prestigious schools, Krueger wrote in an email that the logic of the study could likely be extended to other schools as well. If there's minimal to no gain to attending an elite private university, there's almost certainly zero gain from paying to apply for a less selective private university.⒖"When I was a resident tutor in a Harvard dorm in the 1980's, I saw a lot of students who were not serious about their schoolwork, and who wasted a lot of time with likeminded peers," Krueger wrote. "Determined students can get a good education in many places in the U.S., and graduates who are talented and hardworking often get recognized by employers."⒗These findings do not apply in every individual case. There's great variationin graduation rates among private colleges and among public universities, and going to a school where you're less likely to graduate puts your future earnings at risk. But these results do hold an important lesson for most kids who are white and whose parents also graduated from college -- a huge group of college applicants. (According to the College Board, about half of students taking the SAT this year were white, and about 57 percent had parents who had at least a bachelor's degree.)For minorities and low-income students, a more complex picture⒘The answer is much more complicated for blacks, Hispanics and those whose parents are comparatively less educated.⒙In Dale and Krueger's research, these groups did seem to make more money after attending more selective schools.⒚The authors suggest that attending an elite school might provide these students with access to a new social circle that provides themwith more economic opportunities later in life. Children of well-educated whites might already have that access and so don't gain anything from attending an elite school. Sometimes, it's who you know.⒛There could be other explanations. Perhaps at selective institutions, students from different circumstances pick up from their peers a setof social cues or professional habits that allow them to fitin among America's economically secure stratum, like how to ask for an informational interview or how to tie a bow tie.21. But even for these groups, there are important caveats. It's conceivable that for some, borrowing to pay tuition at a private school could be a wise decision financially. Yet the more a student has to borrow, the less likely the investment is to pay off, and borrowing for school is risky in any case. Costs can explode if a student takes longer than four years tograduate, as many do, and if the student drops out, debt can become impossible to manage. Alternative ideas -- such as starting at a community or state university, then transferring to a private one -- might also be attractive.22. But if they're qualified, these students should definitely consider applying to elite colleges, which will often help them pay tuition. U.S. News compiled this list of schools that pledge to meet 100 percent of their student's financial needs in order to ensure an affordable education. The 62 institutions on the list include the Ivy League, Stanford University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and other very exclusive schools. Only three of the schools are public. The Washington Monthly has another list of academically rigorous schools that offer generous financial aid.23. Many talented students from poor families don't realize that attending one of these schools can be affordable. The average out of pocket cost for low-income student at the most competitive private universities is only $6,754 per year, while less competitive schools require close to $20,000 a year, according to another study.24."The majority of high-achieving, low-income students do not apply to any selective colleges despite apparently being well qualified foradmission," write the authors, economists Caroline Hoxby and Christopher Avery.25. Added Lydia Frank of PayScale, which collects data on salaries and education in the workforce: "Their net price for that school might be a lot lower than they think. The reputation for a school being expensive prevents students from doing that research."(From The Washington Post,December 18, 2014)1.Have one's eye on(vi.)considering doing something carefully or take somethinginto serious consideration; 关注,考虑做某事2.Unload (vi.) take the load off, in this text it means spent a lot money on privatecollege 卸货,支付3.Take on(vi.) hold responsibility on something, here means have an obligation topay the school loan 承担4.In-state(adj.) within the boundary of other states, in this text in-state universityis more affordable for students 州内的5.Racial (adj.) of or related to genetically distinguished groups of people 种族的6.Mentor(n.) a wise and trusted guide and advisor, served as a teacher or trustedcounselor 良师7.Extra-curriculum(n.) outside the regular academic curriculum 课外活动8.Predictor(n.) indicator 指标9.Draw an iron-clad conclusion: inflexible entrenched and unchangeable result铁证如山10.Precise (adj.) sharply, exact or accurate and delimited精确的,明确的11.Alumni (n.) the alumni of a school, college, or university are the people whoused to be students there. The middle class:a class of people in the middle of a societal hierarchy. In Weberian socio-economic terms, the middle class is the broad group of people in contemporary society who fall socio-economically between the working class and upper class. The common measures of what constitutes middle class vary significantly among cultures. 中产阶级10. SAT: it stands for Scholastic Assessment Test, is a standardized test widely used for college admissions in the United States. It was first introduced in 1926, and its name and scoring have changed several times, being originally called the Scholastic Aptitude Test, then the Scholastic Assessment Test, then the SAT Reasoning Test, and now simply the SAT. 学术能力评估测试This news is really thought-provoking; it reflects a worldwide phenomenon to some extent. It concentrates on the most prevailing issue around the world, which strikes on the high tuition fee for college students. It goes without saying that knowledge is power, and it is really pathetic to see money gets in the way of knowledge acquisition. The highly-recognized and academic-renowned elite universities are ideal place for those who want to pursue their further studies. However, in this text the author bring up a very interesting perspective, that it not worth for middle-class parents to send their children to the expensive private schools. The author illustrates his points in the following ways. First and foremost, the tuition fee paid for the private school is 3times higher than the public one; Secondly, the students who study in the public university tend to be happier than the private ones, because they have little worry about their school loans. Thirdly, to be a successful student, a prestigious school only attributes little to students' accomplishment, what really matters is the student's personality and their learning attitude. Fourthly, the reason why some minorities are flooding into these institutions because it provides them with an access to the upper class, in which will give them more opportunities to get respect and dignity from the major group. But it is pointless for white students to do this, because they are part of this group. What's more what can you learn in private school can also be learned in public school because they are under the same educational system. Last but not least, which school did you attend has nothing to do with your future salary? In otherwords, you are like an entrepreneur who starts from scratch, and the future belongs to those who see the beauty in their dreams. In China, we also have a similar problem that is the disparity of the university teaching qualities and the discrimination among education circles. It is a loophole in a computer that contains virus which can easily penetrate and destroy the whole system. Recently, the value of the college degree stirs a heated discussion on the internet. I am in favor of the point of view that when comes to land a job it is your top priority to show your degree. It works like an invitation allow you to attend a party, it gives you permission to the company you dreamed of. But your reality competence matters more in the following procession, your adaptability, flexibility and your social network seems more important than your degree. All in all, entering a university you embark on a new journey, whether it is a highly-renowned and prestigious college or an ordinary university. It is your call to realize your dream, your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude.。

《美英报刊选读》课程论文Title:A Brief Analysis of the English Economic News’ HeadlineClass:09级英语3班Name: xxxStudent Number: xxxxxxxxxxxTeacher: xxxDate: Oct. 21, 2011A Brief Analysis of the English Economic News’ HeadlineAbstract:Headline is a key factor of the economic news, featuring unique stylistic characteristics. This paper, based on the functional stylistic theory, makes a tentativestudy of the economic news’headline from the perspective of grammaticalcharacteristics, news vocabulary and rhetoric feature.Key words:Economic news, title, stylistic characteristics, contextPart 1 IntroductionIn journalistic language, the research of the features of the economic news’headline is comparatively few, but it is an extremely important area. There are two reasons:1.Economy is tied up with everyone, economic activities related to all aspects of social life, andthe subject matter of economic news is widespread but it is difficult to drive. Today, economic news focus on the people’s livelihood and gradually become an indispensable part of our lives. And it has a prominent position in the press.2.Headline is the eye of news, people usually concentrate on headline when they read. The mostimportant function of headline is can reveal the substance of news succinctly so that readers can get as much information as possible in shortest time.Part 2 The stylistic characteristics of economic news’ English headline The economic news English as a kind of second type of writing of news English also follow the principle of news ABC——the accuracy(精确), brevity(简洁), clarity(清晰). And accuracy is a guarantee and premise of real, objective and credible. Due to limited by report object itself and objective economic phenomenon, economic news is impressed by its abstract, profound and unattractive. In order to improve the artistry and concordance, the headline of economic news’conception and expression should be changed. The refinement of headline is the most important part to decide the success of news.According to the analysis of many corpuses, economic news’title is unique. It is make economic news stand out.ⅠGrammatical features1. The sentence structure of economic news’ English title has close links with time effect of news report.According to the analysis of some corpuses, economic news’English titles are written not more than 15 words. In general, it use present tense instead of past tense, use indeterminate form instead of future tense. And in economic news, writers usually prefer to use phrases, simple sentences and non-finite verb forms(indeterminate form, gerund and participle) rather than use long sentence.1.1 The English headline of economic news’ structural features——phrases, simple sentences 1.1.1 Short sentences titlecentre word + post modifiere.g. China’s trade friction to continue this yearForeign invested firms to lose tax, land use privilegespremodifier + centre worde.g. Oil Companies Attack Legislationthe Paid Music Service1.1.2 Sentence-titlecomplete sentencese.g. AT&T yields to seal BellSouth dealMore than 70 pct stock investors gainnon-complete sentencese.g. FDI in China to remain steady this year Ministry of CommerceHK, NY-listed China Mobile to return to mainland stock market1.2 The greatest feature of economic news——ellipsis of function wordsOmit all the words without real meaning can shorten the length of title. In headline, some words including articles, prepositions, conjunctions, possessive pronouns, verb/auxiliary verb be, etc.1.2.1 The ellipsis of articlese.g. Consumer confidence hits 8-month highEarly Loss Overcome, Dow Sets a Record1.2.2 The ellipsis of conjunction ande.g. Incomes, spending rise in NovemberBelarus resume last-minute gas talks1.2.3 The ellipsis of copula bee.g. Caller-pays system still far away17 listed firms under probe for fund misuse1.2.4 The ellipsis of auxiliary bee.g. Succession Pace Stepped Up.China's economy seen growing in '071.3 The temporal characteristics of economic news’ English title1.3.1 The present tenseIn general, the information published in the newspapers has already happened, so according to English grammar should be used in past tense. But it will give readers an obsolete feeling. So writers usually use present tense to enhance the freshness, reality and immediacy of reports in form. This tense is called Journalistic Present Tense in journalism.e.g. BOC acquires biggest aircraft leasing firm in AsiaChina’s shoe exports tread more slowly1.3.2 Non-present tenseIn order to emphasize some kind of temporal information, headline also be used in non-present tense.(1) Simple future tenseEconomic news’ English headline usually use be + infinitive to express the future tense, and be can be omitted.e.g. Huge trade surplus to be reducedChina to launch 3G project stably in 2007(2) Present progressiveEconomic news’English headline usually use be + present participle to express what is happening, and be can be omitted.e.g. Quality of food products improvingJapan keeps view that economy recovering2. The use of passive voiceWhen reading English newspapers, we can find the headlines of news prefer to use active voice rather than passive voice. Because from the perspective of rhetoric, active voice is more vivid and full of infection. However, when the recipient of the event or action is more important than the performer, we usually use passive voice in headlines to highlight the object part to draw readers’ attention.e.g. U.S. manufacturing expanded in DecemberRetail Sales Last Month Surprised With Big Rise3. The special use of punctuation of economic news’ English titles3.1 Comma is used to replace conjunction ande.g. China, U.S. tax authorities reach first agreement on advance pricing3.2 Colon usually be used to separates the theme of title from other parts. Besides, colon also canbe used to replace be.e.g. Private sector shed 40,000 jobs in Dec: reportSurvey: Foreign investment favors E China eastern3.3 Quotes can be used to cite.e.g. Response at dialogue "will be positive"3.4 Question mark is used to something not sure.e.g. American’s most deadly job?ⅡVocabulary features1. short wordsEnglish economic news’headline usually use terse and forceful words so that enhance the conciseness and readability of news.e.g. trim=reduce;vie=compete;vow=determine2. AbbreviationsAbbreviations also known as the first letter abbreviation. It not only can save the count of headwords, but also prompt the content of news better.e.g. MOC--Ministry of CommerceGDB--Guangdong Development Bank3. Simplifying wordse.g. EU, U.S. friction high on int'l agendaⅢRhetorical featuresThe rhetorical devices in headline is very abundant, and metaphor is a literary technique to be used wider than others. The common conceptual metaphor in English economic news are:1.Aero navigation metaphorse.g. CBC market value soars to world No. 3U.S. November new homes sales rise 3.4 pct2. War metaphorse.g. European stock exchange wooed Chinese firmsRecording Industry Wins Judgment in Piracy Case3. Family metaphorse.g. Airbus parent considers building in ChinaPart 3 ConclusionThis passage based on stylistics and with the help of relevant discourse, analyzes the stylistic characteristics of English economic news’headline in vocabulary, grammar and semantics. Concise headline will leave a deep impression on readers. Fresh and alive headline will arouse the desire of reading, thus, audibility and readability can be enhanced.Reference[1]Xinhua online& [2]Wright, Laura and J. Hope.
