The loss of sight and hearing threw him into such sorrow that he tried a few times to put an end to his life. His family, especially his wife, did their best to tend and comfort him and finally he regained the will to live. One hot summer afternoon, he was taking a walk with a stick near his house when a thunderstorm started all at once. He stood under a large tree to avoid getting wet, but he was struck by the lightning. Witnesses thought he was dead but he woke up 20 minutes later, lying face down in muddy water. He was trembling badly, but when he opened his eyes, he could hardly believe what he saw: a tree and a muddyroad. When Mrs. Franco came running up to him, shouting to their neighbors to call for help, he could see her and hear her voice for the first time in nearly ten years. The news of James regaining his sight and hearing quickly spread and many doctors came to examine him. Most of them said that he regained his sight and hearing from the shock he got from the lightning. However, none of them could give a compellent answer as to why this should happen. The only reasonable explanation given by one doctor was that, since James lost his sight and hearing as a result of a sudden shock, perhaps, the only way for him to regain them was by another sudden shock.44.The reason why James attempted to kill himself was that ________.A、a terrible electrical accident happened to himB、nobody in the world cared about himC、he was struck by the lightning once moreD、he had to live in a dark and silent world45.What was James doing when he was struck by the lightning?A、Putting an end to his life.B、Sheltering from the rain under a tree.C、Taking a walk with a stick.D、Lying on the ground.46.What does the underlined word “compellent” in paragraph 3 mean?A、convincingB、wrongC、unexplainedD、true47.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?A、A Terrible Electrical AccidentB、What a Sudden ShockC、An Unforgettable ExperienceD、James Franco and His WifeCThis could be the perfect gift for the partner, who embarrasses you on the dance floor. Smart socks, which can teach to dance, may be the answer for anyone with twoleft feet. The socks have been developed as a running tool to help runners improve their skills. Thanks to the socks, users can accurately record not only how far and fast they run but also how well. It means the user maximizes their performance, and reduces damage to body and prevents hurt. The hi-tech socks are made of special fibers that watch the movements of your feet. They look, feel and can be washed like normal clothes.Sensors (传感器) record each movement and send it by an ankle transmitter (脚踝发射器) to a smart phone. Then a “virtual coach” application shows the information and can tell the user what they are doing wrong, and help to improve skill in any task with feet. The socks should be useful to athletes a nd weekend joggers. “People think running is so easy and of course everybody can do it but not necessarily safely and well,” Dr Davide Vigano said. A recent study showed that between 60 and 80 percent of runners got hurt per year. This is pretty much more than any other human activity. Researchers say the technology can also be developed to teach people how to dance, play sports such golf, or even to help to teach women to walk better in high heels.Mr. Vigano said, “People could all benefit from the ide a. We have had interest from all sorts of sports, like skiing, football, cycling and golf. Anything where you have to use your feet can use it. It could even be put in high heels to help women walk in them safely.”Socks are just the start, and the technology could be used in gloves, hats and boots. The socks, anklet and software package, are expected to be sold for around ?120, which will go on sale in March.48.What does the underlined part “anyone with two left feet” refer to?A、People who are disabledB、People who are interested in dancing.C、People who are not good at dancing.D、People who invented the socks.49.What's special about fibers that the socks are made of?A、They feel much softer than normal clothes .B、They can monitor the movement of feet.C、They are expensive to produce .D、They act as a smart phone for users.50.Which of the following is NOT mentioned about the socks?A、They can improve the skill of running.B、They can help women walk better in high heels.C、They can teach people to dance well.D、They can be worn for days without washing.51.According to Dr. Vigano, ________.A、everyone can make good use of the smart socksB、users can run as fast as they like with the socksC、60 to 80 percent of runners would like to buy the smart socksD、no runners will get hurt, thanks to the socksDEvery hour spent in watching TV, DVDs and videos as an adult reduces life expectancy by almost 22 minutes, a study suggests. And viewing TV for an average of six hours a day can cut short your life by five years. The research claims that a sedentary(久坐的) lifestyle is as bad for health as smoking and obesity, because of the dangers caused by inactivity and the greater opportunities it offers for unhealthy eating. The academics conducting the study set out to calculate the overall risk to life expectancy from watching television. Their research involved more than 11,000 people over the age of 25.Writing in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, they concluded. "TV viewing time may be associated with a loss of life, which is similar to other major chronic disease risk factors such as physical inactivity and obesity."The researchers, from the University of Queensland, used information from the Australian Diabetes, Obesity and Lifestyle Study, together with population and deathrate data. But they said: "Although we used Australian data, the effects in other industrialized and developing countries are likely to be similar, considering the large amounts of time spent watching TV and similarities in disease patterns." In the United Kingdom, the average amount of time spent watching TV is four hours a day, compared with five hours in the United States.Earlier this year, a separate study suggested the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and heart disease, or dying early, rises by as much as 20 percent after just two hours a day in front of the box.England's Chief Medical Officer, Sally Davies, said: "Physical activity offers huge benefits and these studies back what we already know - that a sedentary lifestyle carries additional risks. We hope these studies will help more people realize that there are many ways to get exercise."52. We can learn from the passage that_______A. whether you watch TV or not has nothing to do with how long you will liveB. if an adult watches TV for six hours every day, he will die five yew earlierC. physical inactivity and obesity won't shorten your lifeD. a sedentary lifestyle offers huge benefits.53. 一、高中英语阅读理解1.阅读理解It's no surprise to hear the honking of horns in New York. Whoever tries every day to get more than a few minutes of sleep in the morning in the city will tell you that he could do nothing about it! No one can deny honking of horns is just one of his most widely enjoyed pastimes. But Andy, a Japanese website developer has had enough of it. Once, the 27-year-old man approached the open window to wait for the driver to finish honking, delivered a polite "excuse me" and then yelled "Ho-o-o-o-onk!", which means fierce anger in Japan. Then he threw three eggs from the window of his apartment on to a passing car honking loudly below when his patience was worn out. Instead of apologizing to him, the driver threatened to kill him angrily. So, nobly, Andy turned to non-violence. He started writing anti-honking haiku verses, a form of Japanese poetry, and submitted them to local newspapers:Oh. forget Enron; The problem around here is; All the damn honking (Enron: a major American company that recently caused a scandal because of corrupt(腐败) mismanagement)"Then this kind of chain reaction started happening," Andy says. "All these other haiku started appearing unexpectedly" Andy's community is now covered in anti - honking poetry, written by all walks of life.Patience slowly fades;Residents store up their eggs; That day is coming soon. It's understandable that Andy has set up a website — — and now people from across the country send him news of their own anti - honking activities. It seems that poetry can change the world after all. Then, just recently, anti-anti- honking haiku started to appear, launched by locals who thought Andy should stop worrying about honking and start worrying about starving children, or war in the Middle East instead. Andy has an answer for that. "Stop me if this is too ridiculous," he says, "but they talk about the violence in the Middle East like it's a force of nature, like it's beyond our control. But actually it's kind of like the honking - the violence is man -made. If we can figure out how to stop honking on the streets, I think we could learn some things that we could use on a large scale."(1)What does the first paragraph intend to tell us about New Yorkers?A. They enjoy listening to the honking of horns.B. Their life has been affected by the honking noise.C. They get accustomed to sleeping late in the morning.D. They have formed a habit of honking while driving.(2)What is Andy's final reaction to the frequent honking of horns?A. Pretended to ignore it.B. Screamed at the driver.C. Acted in a peaceful way.D. Complained to the government.(3)According to the passage, most New Yorkers think Andy's response is______.A. acceptableB. pointlessC. sensitiveD. abnormal(4)Facing the criticism of his anti-honking campaign, Andy notes that______.A. if not handled well, honking will cause serious problems like starvationB. fierce violence in the Middle East is more of an issue worthy of concernC. violence in the world as well as honking on the street is under our controlD. finding the solution to anti - honking is as meaningful as that to starvation【答案】(1)B(2)C(3)A(4)D【解析】【分析】本文是一篇记叙文,讲述了纽约的汽车喇叭声严重影响了人们的生活,一个日本人对此做出了很大的挣扎,从激烈对抗到写打油诗的非暴力反抗,以及纽约当地人对此的反映。
