Ladies and Gentlemen, Dear Friends,
As New Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Manchester, I am very deligh ted tocome to the famous Lake District in the U.K., to join you in the Opening Ceremony of theConfucius Institute of Lancaster University. At this joyous occasionmoment, on beh alf of theChinese Consulate General in Manchester, I would like to convey my warmest c ongratulations toSouth China University of Technology (SCUT) and Lancaster University ( LU) toon establishingfriendly links with each other, and my best wishes to the better, bro ader cooperation between thetwo universities through the Confucius Institute in the futur

f Confucius Institute in China for your jointefforts and great support, which make the Con fucius Institute come into being.
As we all know, Confucius was a great philosopher, educator and politicianstatesmen duri ng theSpring and Autumn Period( 770 BC-476 BC) of China. Confucius thoughts very posi tivelyinfluences various aspects in China and the world as well, which becamebecomes m ore and morevivid and profound be in greater depth with the increasing number of Confu cius Institutes andConfucius Classrooms in many countries in the past several years. Tod ay, there are 358 ConfuciusInstitutes and more than 500 Confucius Classrooms in 105 co untries and regions, which are actingas bridges between China and all othertheir hosting countries, havingplaying very important rolesin teaching Chinese language, promoting cul tural and educational exchanges, and enhancingmutual understanding and friendship, etc
. Just like China's State Councillor and Chairperson of theCouncil of the Confucius Institut e Headquarters Mrs Liu Yandong said at the recent Sixth Meetingof the Council of the Co nfucius Institute Headquarters in Beijing that, since its launching 8 yearago, the Confuciu s Institute has brought Chinese language to all corners of the globe, whilstlanguages and cultures of foreign countries were brought into China. The seed of communicating, under standing, harmony, and friendship it disseminated is blossoming among the young peopl e.
I believe, with all the help and collaborations from different sectors, the Confucius Institu te will be avery successful one ofwith high standard, distinguishing features, and work as a golden bridge ofexchanges and cooperation in humanities between China and the UK.
I also hope that, in thefuture the Lancaster University Confucius Institute will grasp this o pportunity to explore a suitableteaching and operation system to meet the needs of the l ocal community, to train more and moreBritish youths who love Chinese language and cu lture, understand China, and wish to work for thefriendly and mutually beneficial exchan ges and cooperation between the two countries. TheConsulate General of China will defin itely offer full support to the development of the ConfuciusInstitute as we always did. To conclude my speech, please allow me to quote a famous phrase of Confucius to all th estudents and staff of the Confucius Institute of Lancaster University, thatwhich is “Broad erLearning, Cautious Question, Doubtful Thinking, Lively Debating, and Constant Practice ”.
Once again, congratulations to the Opening of the Confucius Institute of Lancaster Unive rsity.Thank you very much!。
