2016年高考英语卷的特点主要表现如下：

二、试卷注重能力考核，顺应语言教学趋势
本次英语卷所有语篇均取材于原版教材、书报，不仅语言地道，且尽可能还原英美国家的真实场景，使考试所用语言和以英语为母语的人们的日常生活、工作用语相一致，最大程度保证测试的公平性与客观性。
同时，英语卷注重综合考察考生的语言运用能力以及思维能力，要求指向明确，有利于素质教育的实施。
1、语法：为了充分体现语法知识的语用功能，全面了解考生活用语法知识的能力，在坚持“基础、常见、实用”的考核原则上，今年继续突出语法知识在语境中的应用。此举旨在避免语法知识考核中机械、孤立的考核方式可能带来的弊端，能较好地反映学生灵活运用语言知识的能力，并期望能够对目前语法教学中可能存在的过繁、过细、过度的现象有一定的反拨作用。

6、写作：今年的图表型作文依托“研究性学习”的背景，不仅考察学生观察、归纳的能力，也要求学生能够自主思考，有利于引导教师把测量学生语言表达能力与思维品质结合起来，为学生搭建更广阔的展示舞台。
三、试卷讲求思想性、实用性
本次试卷，在语篇的选择以及试题的设计方面考虑良多。通过“将食物分给有需要的人”的故事展现帮助他人的意义;通过“重视全球气候变暖刻不容缓”、“社交网络个人安全问题值得关注”以及“电梯左行右立可能造成人流拥堵”等等报道激发学生对于社会热点的兴趣和关注;一方面弘扬高尚的精神情怀，一方面也引导学生“声声入耳、事事关心”。从实用角度而言，本次高考英语卷希望能够通过测试的导向作用让学生明确语言学习同样需要理论联系实际，并最终服务于今后每一日的生活和工作。为此，与去年相同，试卷中出现了最新列入词汇手册的单词以及一些报章杂志中经常提到的高频词，更尽可能真实地呈现学术英语阅读的形态，体现高考的选拔作用。
