高三英语《阅读理解》每日一练(含答案)第1天Elizabeth Blackwell is a British-born woman physician (医师). She was born in 1821 in England. Her father decided to move the family to the United States in 1832 after his factory was destroyed by fire. It is said that she turned to studying medicine after a close friend who was dying said she wouldn’t have suffered so much if her physician had been a woman. Elizabeth knew that no woman had ever been permitted to study in a medical school. But she began to think about the idea seriously after the friend who had suggested it died.Elizabeth discussed it with her family. Her family supported her. However, all the medical colleges refused her except Geneva Medical College in New York. When she graduated from Geneva Medical College in 1849, she became the first woman in America to earn the M. D.degree. She was not offered many opportunities as a young female physician, she opened her own office 2 years later. Her younger sister Dr. Emily Blackwell, joined her in 1856. Together with Dr. Marie Zakrzewska, they opened the New York Infirmary (医院) for Women and Children in 1857. After establishing the infirmary. Elizabeth Blackwell went on a year-long lecture tour of Great Britain. You may have an energy drink, but the benefits of drinking one are heavily outweighed by the risks. In the past years, more and more studies have found the deadly effects of energy drinks on our bodies. The sugar, caffeine and energy supplements (补充)in energy drinks make up a deadly mixture of ingredients that can affect your heart function and send you to the hospital!A study by the University of Bonn, Germany found that frequent consumption of energy drinks can greatly change the way our heart functions. The study went on to say that consuming energy drinks often causes significantly increased heart contractions in adults, which has the potential of putting you at risk for irregular heartbeats. It is possible that many people are unconscious of the alarming side effects of energy drinks because of the way they are labelled. Most energy drinks contain between 80 milligrams to over 350 milligrams of caffeine, sugar and energy supplements. When an energy drink is marketed as a diet supplement, it may be distributed without a "nutrition facts" label, which would show the harmful supplements that are in the drink. However, even if energy drinks are Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved, they don’t have to show the number of supplements.Energy drinks may be widely available but they aren't the healthiest or safest choice for your body. To stay naturally energized, get organized and stay on top of your work so that you aren'thaving to stay up all night to complete assigned tasks. If you'd like a natural energy boost, you could make time for a short workout, which will give you all of the energy you need!5.Which of the following is the side effect of the energy drinks?A.Making people thinner.B.Making people's heart bigger.C.Making people run a risk of falling ill.D.Making people suffer from heart attack.6.Why are many people unaware of the harmful effects of energy drinks?A.Because they don't read the label carefully.B.Because FDA thinks they are healthy drinks.C.Because the harmful materials are not labelled.D.Because factories of energy drinks lie to drinkers.7.What is the last paragraph mainly about?A.The benefits of doing exercise.B.The better choice of right drinks.C.The way to have enough energy.D.The effects of energy drinks.8.What is the best title for the text?A.Don't Drink Energy DrinksB.Many People Enjoy Energy DrinksC.The Materials Energy Drinks ContainD.Energy Drinks Could Send You to Hospital第3天Most adults firmly believe that as kids reach their teens, they start to take crazy risks that get them in trouble. Do teenagers simply love taking all risks much more than adults? A recent study suggests otherwise.Scientists designed a simple experiment involving 33 teenagers and three other age groups. In the experiment, the researchers tried to distinguish between two very different kinds ofrisk-taking. The first they called a willingness to take known risks (when the probability of winning is clear) and the second they called a willingness to take unknown risks (when the possibility of success is uncertain). The study offered participants the opportunity to play two kinds of games. They had the chance to win money, with one game offering a known risk and the other offering an unknown risk. On each round of the game, each participant had to choose between taking a sure $5 and known or unknown risks of winning a lot more. If on one particular round they had picked the $5 for sure choice, then they got $5. But if on that round they had chosen to take a risk, the rules of the game will determine whether or not they had won. If they did win, they went home with between $8 and $125. And, of course, if they lost, they went home with nothing. What the scientists found was really quite surprising. It turned out that the average teenager was very hesitant when risks were known—more careful than college students or parents-aged adults, and about as careful as grandparent-aged adults. This means that when the risks were known, teenagers were not risky in their behavior at all. Only when the risks were unclear did teenagers choose them more often than other groups. Under those kinds of conditions, they were much more willing to take a risk than any other group. So, what does all of this mean? The research suggests that adults should probably focus more energy on trying to educate teenagers about risks than limiting them. Teenagers who understand the risks associated with a decision are more likely to be careful in their behavior. 9.This experiment was carried out byA.dividing the teens into three groupsB.comparing the reactions to different risksC.giving equal amount of awards to the participantsD.observing the emotional changes of the teenager10.When facing known risks, teenagers tended to be ________.A.ambitious B.cautious C.anxious D.curious 11.Which group in the study were more likely to take unknown risks?A.Teenagers. B.College students.C.Parent-aged adults. D.Grandparent-aged adults.12.According to the study, parents should focus on ________.A.guaranteeing children to be carefulB.setting age limits on dangerous activitiesC.respecting teens to make their own choicesD.guiding teens to learn more about the effect of risks第4天Head to Music City for a variety of great lodging (住宿) options. Even though the new building is very exciting, in the meantime there is no real playground for all the kids to use. They just run aroundthe front of the school during the lunch break. This gets me thinking about starting a book club for the upper elementary kids to meet in during lunch. This idea has the added benefit of giving my very shy daughter a chance to make some connections with other kids who like books as much as she does. This is how I’m starting our book club. After getting permission from the principal and finding a space in the school to hold our meetings, I’ll send out a flier (传单) in our Friday school notes with my contact information. At our first meeting we’ll think of a name for our book club and decide together on the first two books we will read.I absolutely love the idea of a mother-daughter book club. The reason is that my friend, mother of a teenage daughter, told me she always tried to befriend all the mothers of her daughter’s friends. As a group they’re better able to know wh at the girls are doing. Now that my daughter is in the fourth grade and we’re at a new school, I’m feeling especially drawn to start forming relationships with the mothers of her friends. A book club seems like a good way to do that with the added benefit of getting to open up communication between daughters and mothers, because in a few years a lot of our daughters won’t really want to talk to us.24.What is the original reason why the author wants to start a book club?A.Her daughter is too shy.B.There are no books for children to read.C.There is no playground for children to play on.D.The children fail to communicate with each other.25.What can we know about the book club according to the text?A.Her daughter’s grades will promote.B.It can help her daughter communicate with others.C.His daughter is more and more fond of reading in the book club.D.This makes his daughter more and more busy with her housework.26.Why does the author claim she likes mother-daughter clubs?A.The club attracted more students to read.B.His daughter can make more good friends.C.It’s easy for her to get to know her daughter better.D.His daughter likes to communicate with more people.27.What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?A.To share a valuable plan.B.To apply for joining a book club.C.To give the school a piece of advice.D.To ask people to befriend by reading.第8天The James Geddes Language Center includes two language laboratories, especially equipped for language teaching and extensive tape production and processing facilities. A shocking new study has shown that the level of food waste is far worse than previously thought, at 58%. Of that, about 85% of food waste is due to food processors. This differs from earlier studies, which criticizedfamilies for driving food waste and said they were responsible for 51% of food waste. The study was carried out by Martin Hooch, the leading expert on food waste and the author of several previous studies on the subject. Reflecting on the study’s findings, Hooch said, “It means stopping criticizing consumers. Sure, consumers are part of the problem, but they’re not the problem.”In the past, Hooch didn't master good data, particularly from the private factories, but relied on numbers collected by the food industry for purposes other than tracking(追踪) waste. This time, however, Hooch worked directly with companies at all stages along the food production chain and interviewed over 700 experts in the industry. Clearly he found it hard to believe what he was seeing. This is what they found: Food processing causes 34% of food waste. This is followed by production, which causes 24%. Next is manufacturing at 13%, then hotels and restaurants at 9%. Families cause only 14%, and market sales 6%. This should be a serious wake-up call for Canadians who would do well to examine their own food supply chains. Food waste is costly, not only in terms of dollars wasted, but also in resources like land, water, and so on. To be using these resources and wasting the product is totally irresponsible and unnecessary. To make matters worse, when food is thrown into rubbish cans, it produces methane, a greenhouse gas 30 times more powerful than carbon dioxide (CO2). At Canada’s rate of food waste, that's like adding 12 million cars to the road. It seems that the food industry needs redesigning. Therefore, let’s hope the government takes action.31.What did earlier studies say about food waste in Canada?A.Food waste was better than expected.B.Food went bad when it was processed.C.Most of the food was wasted on purpose.D.Families were to blame for food waste.32.How did Hooch do his study on food waste this time?A.By studying data from the industry.B.By tracking the whole production chain.C.By collecting advice from experts worldwide.D.By drawing a conclusion from the previous studies.33.Why does food waste have an effect on the environment?A.Because it is harmful to the trees.B.Because it pollutes the soil around it.C.Because it gives off unpleasant smells.D.Because it produces more greenhouse gas.34.What is the main idea of the text?A.Canadians don’t like to save food for future.B.More than half of the food is wasted in Canada.C.Families are mainly responsible for food waste.D.The food industry is better redesigned in Canada.第10天It sounds like something from the field of science fiction — a space exploration into vast outer space, heading towards the Red Planet While we're not quite ready to put a person on it, the question we ask today is: why are so many countries interested in going to Mars? The space race saw the USSR(the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics) and USA compete to achieve firsts in spaceflight. The USSR released Sputnik 1, an artificial satellite, before anyone else, and the US landed on the Moon first. Now it appears that Mars is the body of desire. While to be the first nation to land on it is an obvious draw, there are other reasons why we want to get there. One of these could be the survival of our species. You only have to look at the fossils of the dinosaurs to see the benefit of finding another habitable planet. While Mars doesn't have the right conditions to call it home just yet, there's always the concept of terraforming-changing the environment of a planet to suit our needs. However, not everyone agrees. Leading astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson has said the concept of changing habitability of another planet because of the damage we have done to Earth makes no sense when we can simply terraform Earth. It seems that the main reason at the moment is the search for alien life. It has long been believed that, at one time, Mars was abundant with life. Now seemingly dead, the potentialfossils could answer questions about our own evolution and that of our planet. One theory is that bacterial life on our planet didn't start here, but was brought here via asteroid from Mars. One benefit supported by scientists like Neil deGrasse Tyson is that landing on Mars may inspire more people to become interested in science and astronomy. Surely inspiring a new generation to visit the stars is reason enough.35.What achievement did the USSR make in the space race?A.It was the first country to put a person on the moon.B.It was the first nation to launch an artificial satellite.C.It was the first country to land on the surface of Mars.D.It was the first nation to send the dinosaur fossils into space.36.What attitude does Neil deGrasse Tyson take to the idea of terraforming Mars? A.Curious. B.Ambiguous. C.Thrilled. D.Negative. 37.What benefit of heading to Mars does Neil deGrasse Tyson support?A.Rescuing the species on the earth.B.Looking for life in outer space.C.Understanding humans' evolution.D.Increasing young people's enthusiasm about space.38.What is the best title of the passage?A.Why Do We Desire To Leave Earth?B.Why Do We Attempt To Go To Mars?C.Can We Settle Down On Other Planets?D.Should We Stop Searching For Alien Life On Mars?第11天As well as hosting New Ze aland’s largest and most populous city, the Auckland region features many attractive, diverse places.Central AucklandCentral Auckland is a hub of urban delights set against beautiful coastal scenery. 定额市鞍钢阳光实验学校杭州外国语学校高考英语集训阅读理解每日一练04倒数第十周星期四AOne day, Mr. Arnold was teaching a lesson, and things were going as normally as ever. He was explaining the story of mankind to his pupils. He told them that, in the beginning, men were nomads; they never stayed in the same place for very long. Instead ,they would travel about, here and there, in search of food, wherever it was to be found. And when the food ran out, they would move off somewhere else.He taught them about the invention of farming and keeping animals. This was an important discovery, because by learning to cultivate(耕作)the land, and care for animals, mankind would always hav e food steadily available. It also meant that people could remain living in one place, and this made it easier to set about tasks that would take a long while to complete, like building towns, cities, and all that were in them. All the children were listening attracted by this story, until Lucy jumped up:“And if that was so important and improved everything so much, why are we nomads all over again, Mr. Arnold?”Mr. Arnold didn’t know what to say. Lucy was a very intelligent girl. He knew that she lived with her parents in a house, so she must know that her family were not nomads; so what did she mean?“We have all become nomads again,” continued Lucy, “The other day, outside the city, they were cutting the forest down. A while ago a Gsherman told me how they fish. It’s the same with everyone: when there’s no more forest left the foresters go elsewh ere, and when the fish run out the fishermen move on. That’s what the nomads did, isn’t it?9,The teacher nodded, thoughtfully. Really, Lucy was right Mankind had turned into nomads. Instead of looking after the land in a way that we could be sure it would keep sup plying our needs, we kept developing it until the land was bare. And then off we would go to the next place! The class spent the rest of the afternoon talking about what they could do to show how to be more civilized. The next day everyone attended class wearing a green T-shirt, with a message that said “I am not a nomad!”And ,from then on, they set about showing that indeed they were not. Every time they knew they needed something, they made sure that they would get it using care and control. If they needed wood or paper, they would make sure that they got the recycled kind. They ordered their fish from fish farms, making sure that the fish they received were not too young and too small. They only used animals that were well cared for, and brought up on farms. And so, from their little town, those children managed to give up being nomads again, just as prehistoric men had done, so many thousands of years ago.1. Sometimes you need one person to talk to. You can play games, hang out or even just talk on the phone. Consider these suggestions to meet people and form strong, lasting friendships. Well, take your time, and don’t rush. ♦Join an organization or a club with people who have common interests. You don’t necessarily have a lot of common interests with people in order to make friends with them. But if you have something in common with them, it can make it a lot easier to talk to them and plan activities. Whatever your age and whatever your interests, there is an organization or a club for yo u. Social networking sites such as Facebook , Twitter are also a great way to meet new people and learn more about them. ♦Join a sports team. As long as you enjoy the sport and support your teammates, joining a local team with a laid-back attitude could be a great way to make new friends. A sports team isn’t the only way. If you play instruments or sing ,try joining a band. ♦Make small talk. Keep the conversation light and cheery. Even if you’re complaining about something, make sure it’s something you’re both dissatisfied with, and emphasize the positive —how such a situation can be avoided in the future. Many conversationalists say that it is good to follow a 30/70 (30% talking, 70% listening) pattern during small talk when possible. ♦Ask them out for lunch or coffee. That will give you a better opportunity to talk and get to know each other a little bit better. A good way to extend yourself is to say: “Hey, well, I've got to go, but if you ever want to talk over lunch or coffee or anything like that, let me give you my number or e-mail address.” This gives theperson the opportunity to get in touch with you; they may or may not give you their information in return, but that’s fine. Maybe they don’t have time for new friends~~don’t take it personally! Just offer your information to whoever seems to be potentially a good friend, and eventually somebody will get in touch. ♦Be loyal(忠诚的)to a friend. You've probably heard of fair-weather friends. They’re the ones who are happy to be around you when things arc going well ,but are nowhere to be found when you really need them. Part of being a friend is being prepared to spare time and energy in order to help out your friends. If a friend needs help with an unpleasant thing, or if he or she just needs a shoulder to cry on ,be there. If your friends make a joke ,laugh with them. Never complain about a friend. ♦ Be a good listener. Many people think that in order to be seen as ‘friend material’ they have to appear very interesting. Far more important than this ,however, is the ability to show th at you’re interested in others. Listen carefully to what people say, remember important details about them (their names, their likes and dislikes), ask questions about their interests, and j ust take the lime to learn more about them. You don’t want to be the guy or girl that always has a better story than anyone else or that changes the subject suddenly instead of continuing the flow of conversation. ♦ Be trustworthy. One of the best things about having a friend is that you have someone to whom you can talk about anything, even secrets that you hide from the rest of the world. The key to being a good friend is the ability to keep secrets, so it’s no secret that you shouldn’t tell other people things that were told to you in confidence. 6. According to the given information, what quality do you need to have if you want to make friends?A. Patience.B. Curiosity.C. Bravery.D. Humor.7. Those who can enjoy a happy life together but it’s hard to go through hardness hand in hand are________A. loyal friendsB. close friendsC. dishonest friendsD. fair-weather friends8. While having a conversation with your friends, you should avoid_______.A. applying the 30/70 pattern B . talking too much about yourself C. showing interest in their topics D. knowing more details about them 9. To be a reliable friend ,you'd better_______. A. have some common interests with your friendsB. find something to complain about with your friendsC. keep the secrets that your friends have told youD. exchange your personal information with your friends CHow good are you at saying “no”? For many, it’s surprisingly difficult. This is especially true of editors, who by nature tend to be eager and engaged participants in everything they do. Consider these scenes:It’s late in the day. That front-page package you’ve been working onis nearly complete; the last editing and it’s finished. Then enters the chief editor, who makes a suggestion requiring a more-than-modest rearrangement of the design and the addition of an information box. You want to scream: “No! It’s done!” What do you do?The first rule of saying no to the boss is ‘don’t say no,. He probably has something in mind w hen he makes the suggestion, and it’s up to you to find out what. The second rule is 'don't raise the risks by challenging his authority,. That issue is already decided. The third rule is ‘be ready to put forward choices and consequences,. The boss’s suggestion might be appropriate, but there are always consequences. He might not know about the pages backing up that need attention ,or about the designer who had to go home sick. TeII him he can have what he wants, hut explain the consequences. Understand what he’s trying to accomplish and propose(提议)a Flan B that will make it happen without destroying what you’ve do ne so far. Here’s another case. Your least -favorite reporter suggests a silly story idea. This one should be easy, but it’s not. If you say no, even politely, you risk holding back further ideas, not just from that reporter, but from others who heard that you turned down the idea. This case is common in newsrooms that lack a systematic way to filter(过滤)story suggestions. Two steps are necessary. First, you need a system for how stories are proposed and reviewed. Reporters can bear rejection of their ideas if they believe they are given a fair hearing. Your natural reaction and strong rejection, even of a worthless idea, might not qualify as systematic or fair.Second, the people you work with need to make a “What if ".?,,agreement covering ‘‘What if my idea is turned down?,,How are people expected to react? Is there an appeal process? Can they perfect the idea and resubmit it? By imagining “What if...?” situations before they happen, you can reach understanding that will help ease you out of opposition.10. This passage is mainly about_______.A. the cases where ideas are rejectedB. the ways to give different opinionsC. the skills of saying noD. the methods for solving disagreements11. Instead of directly refusing your boss’s suggestion, you should_______.A. pretend that you are sickB. seek what he is thinking aboutC. state that your design is quite perfectD. ask him to give the reason for his suggestion12. By saying “This one should be easy •••” (Paragraph 4),the writer means it’s easy t o_______A. understand the silly story ideaB. let others politely say noC. fool your least-favorite reporterD. turn down that reporter’s idea13. Why is it important to set up a system for stories to be proposed and reviewed?A. To allow reporters enough time to change their attitude.B. To develop reporters5 strong sense of fairness.C. To encourage reporters to give valuable ideas.D. To guarantee reporters chances to give further explanations.14. What is conveyed in the last paragraph?A. Sometimes we may view a problem from another angle.B. We may relax ourselves by raising questions when we're in trouble.C. “What if …?” situations help improve our relationship with others.D. It’s almost impossible for others to accept our ideas at once.DRed roses were her favorites; her name was also Rose. And every year her husband sent them, tied with pretty bows. The year he died, the roses were delivered to her door. The card said, “Be my Valentine(情人),” like all the years before. Each year he sent her ro ses, and the note would always say, “I love you even more this year, than last year on this day. My love for you will always grow, with every passing year.” She knew this was the last time that the roses would appear. She thought, he ordered roses in advance before this day. Her loving husband did not know that he would pass away. He always liked to do things early. Then, if he got too busy, everything would work out fine. She cut away some stems, placed them in a very special vase, and set the vase beside the picture of his smiling face. She would sit for hours in her husband’s favorite chair, staring at his photo and the roses sitting there.A year went by, and it was hard to live without her mate. Loneliness and solitude had become her fate. Then, the ve ry hour, as on Valentine’s Day before, the doorbell rang, and there were roses, sitting by her door. She brought the roses in, and just looked at them in shock. Then, she went to get the telephone to call the florist(花匠)shop. The owner answered, and she asked him, if he would explain why someone would do this to her, causing her such pain.“I know your husband passed away, more than a year ago,” the owner said, “I knew you'd call, and you would want to know. The flowers you received today were paid for in advance. Your husband always planned ahead. He left nothing to chance.”“There is a standing order that I have on file down here. And he has paid, well in advance; you'll get them every year. There is also another thing that I think you should know. He wrote a special little card ... he did this years ago.” “Then, should ever, I find out that he's nolonger here. That’s the card ... that should be sent to you the following year.” She thanked him and hung up the phone ,her tears now flowing hard. Her fingers shaking, she slowly reached to get the card. Inside the card, she saw that he had written her a note. Then ,as she stared in total silence, this is what he wrote: “Hello my love, I know it’s been a year since I was gone. I hope it hasn’t been too hard for you to overcome. I know it must be lonely, and the pain is very real. If it was the other way, I know how I would feel. The love we shared made everything so beautiful in life. I loved you more than words can say. You were the perfect wife.”“You were my friend and lover; you satisfied my every need. I know it’s only been a year, but please try not to grieve. I want you to be happy, even when you shed your tears. That is why the roses will be sent to you for years.”“When you get these roses, think of all the happiness that we had together, and how both of us were blessed. I have always loved you and I know I always will. But, my love, you must go on; you have some living still.”“Please ... try to find happiness, while living out your days. I know it is not easy, but I hope you find some ways. The roses will come every year, and they will only stop when your door’s not answered, when the florist stops to knock. He will come five times that day, in case you have gone out. But after his last visit, he will know without a doubt. To take the roses to the place, where I’ve instructed him, and place them where we are, together once again.”15. How did Rose feel when she received roses a year after her husband’s death?A. When the world was still populated by hunter-gatherers,small, tightly knit (联系)groups developed their own patterns of speech independent of each other. Some language experts believe that 10,000 years ago, when the world had just five to ten million people, they spoke perhaps 12,000 languages between them.Soon afterwards, many of those people started settling down to become farmers, and their languages too became more settled and fewer in number. In recent centuries, trade, industrialisation, the development of the nation-state and the spread of universal compulsory education, especially globalisation and better communications in the past few decades, all have caused many languages to disappear, and dominant languages such as English, Spanish and Chinese are increasingly taking over.zxxkAt present, the world has about 6,800 languages. The distribution of these languages is hugely uneven. The general rule is that mild zones have relatively few languages, often spoken by many people, while hot, wet zones have lots, often spoken by small numbers. Europe has only around 200 languages; the Americas about 1,000; Africa 2 400; and Asia and the Pacific perhaps 3,200, of which Papua New Guinea alone accounts for well over 800. The median number (中位数)of speakers is a mere 6,000, which means that half the world’s languages are spoken by fewer people than that.Already well over 400 of the total of, 6,800 languages are close to extinction(消亡), with only a few elderly speakers left. Pick, at random, Busuu in Cameroon (eight remaining speakers),Chiapaneco in Mexico(150), Lipan Apache in the United States(two or three)or Wadjigu in Australia (one, with a question-mark): none of these seems to have much chance of survival.28. 定额市鞍钢阳光实验学校杭州外国语学校高考英语集训阅读理解每日一练50倒数第一周星期五AGrown-ups are often surprised by how well they remember something they learned as children but have never practiced ever since. A man who has not had a chance to go swimming for years can still swim as well as ever when he gets back in the water. He can get on a bicycle after many years and still ride away. He can play catch and hit a ball as well as his son.A mother who has not thought about the words for years can teach her daughter the poem that begins "Twinkle, twinkle, little star" or remember the story of Cinderella or Goldilocks and the Three Bears. One explanation is the law of overlearning, which can be stated as follows: Once we have learned something, additional learning trials increase the length of time we will remember it.In childhood we usually continue to practice such skills as swimming, bicycle riding, and playing baseball long after we have learned them. We continue to listen to and remind ourselves of words such as "Twinkle, twinkle, little star" and childhood tales such as Cinderella and Goldilocks. We not only learn but overlearn. The multiplication tables(乘法口诀表)are an exception to the general rule that we forget rather quickly the things that we learn in school, because they are another of the things we overlearn in childhood. The law of overlearning explains why cramming(突击学习)for an examination, though it may result in a passing grade, is not a satisfactory way to learn a college course. By cramming, a student may learn the subject well enough to get by on the examination, but he is likely soon to forget almost everything he learned. A little overlearning, on the other hand, is really necessary for one's future development.41.What’s the main idea of Paragraph 1?A..Children have a better memory than grown-ups.B. People remember well what they learned in childhoodC. Poem reading is a good way to learn words.D. Stories for children are easy to remember.42. The author explains the law of overlearning by __________.A. presenting research findingsB. using examplesC. making a comparisonD. setting down general rules43. According to the author, being able to use multiplication tables is _________.A. a skill to deal with math problemsB. a special case of crammingC. a result of overlearningD. a basic step towards advanced studies44. What is the author's opinion on cramming?A. It's helpful only in a limited way.B. It leads to failure in college exams.C. It's possible to result in poor memory.D. It increases students' learning interest.BAustralia has passed regulations that will enable more international students to further their education in the country. The new measures were released by the Australian Department of Tertiary Education, Skills, Jobs and Workplace Relations in September and will take effect in mid-2012.As a result, the student visa application process for overseas students has been simplified, and the deposit (押金) required to study in Australia has been reduced. Language requirements for overseas students have also been eased. Also, overseas students receiving a higher education in Australia will be granted a working visa lasting from two to four years after graduation, as long as they meet the basic IELTS requirement."This change will definitely make Australia a more attractive destination for Chinese students planning to study overseas," says Wang Lan, a consultant from Education International Cooperation Group (EIC), a Beijing-based company that provides services to students wishing to study overseas. However, in the past few years, many of Wang's student clients(客户) could not start studies in Australia because they did not meet the language requirements, visa processing took a long time and deposit regulations were tough. The change in policy is good news for the parents of students wishing to study in Australia, Wang says.A 22-year-old female student surnamed Li, in Beijing, who is planning to do her postgraduate studies in Australia, learned about the policy change several weeks ago."According to the previous deposit requirement for my student visa, my family was required to put down 550,000 yuan ($86,850). Now we only need to prepare 410,000 yuan. This is a relief for my parents," Li says. She also says that the two to four years working visa makes her feel much clearer about her study plans."I believe several years of working experience abroad will strengthen my competitiveness when I return to China," she says.Gaining a competitive advantage is the major reason for Chinese students to study abroad, according to the report by EIC.45. What's the main idea of the passage?A. Language requirement for overseas students have been eased in Australia.B. Australia is a most attractive place for students in China.C. Shay asked, “Do you think they’ll let me play?” Shay’s father knew that most of the boys would not want someone like Shay on their team, but the father also understood that if his son, mentally and physically disabled, were allowed to play, it would give him a much-needed sense of belonging and some confidence.Shay’s father approached one of the boys on the field and asked if Shay could play, not expecting much. The boy looked around and said, “We’re losing by six runs (分) and the game is in the eighth inning (局).I guess he can be on our team and we’ll try to put him in to bat in the final inning.Shay struggled over to the team’s bench and put on a tea m shirt with a broad smile and his father had a small tear in his eye and warmth in heart. The boys saw the father’s joy at his son being accepted. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Shay’s team scored a few runs but was still behind by three. In the top of the final inning, Shay puton a glove and played in the field. Even though no hits came his way, he was obviously joyful just to be in the game and on the field. In the bottom of the final inning, Shay’s team scored again. Now, Shay was scheduled to be next at bat. Would they let Shay bat and give away their chance to win the game?Surprisingly, Shay was given the bat. Everyone knew that a hit was almost impossible. The first pitch (投) came and Shay missed. The pitcher again took a few steps forward to throw the ball softly towards Shay. As the pitch came in , Shay swung at the ball and hit a slow ground ball right back to the pitcher. The pitcher could have easily thrown the ball to the first baseman and Shay would have been out and that would have been the end of the game. Instead, the pitcher threw the ball right over the head of the first baseman, beyond the reach of all teammates, The audience and the players from both teams started screaming, “Shay, run to first! ”Never in his life had Shay ever run that far but made it to first base, wide-eyed and shocked.Everyone shouted, “Run to second!” Catching his breath, Shay awkwardly ran towards second. By the time Shay rounded towards second base, the smallest guy on their team, who had a chance to be the hero for his team for the first time, could have thrown the ball to the second baseman, but he understood the pitcher’s intentions and he too intentionally threw the ball high and far over the third baseman’s head. All were screaming,“Sh ay,Shay,Shay, all the way Shay.” Shay reached third base when one opposing player ran to help him a nd shouted, “Shay, run to third.” As Shay rounded third, all were on their feet, crying, “Shay, run home!”Shay ran to home, stepped on the home base and was cheered as the hero who won the game for his team. That day, the boys from both teams helped bring a piece of true love and humanity into this world. Shay didn’t make it to another summer and died that winter, having never forgotten being the hero and making his father so happy and coming home and seeing his mother tearfully hug her little hero of the day!50. Not expecting much, Shay’s father still asked the boy if Shay could play, mainly because thefather _________.A. understood Shay did need a feeling of being acceptedB. guessed his presence would affect the boy’s decisionC. learned some of the boys on the field knew Shay wellD. noticed some of the boys on the field were hesitating51. Everyone can develop his team spirit in sports and please his parents.D. The results of the game should not be the only concern of the playersDThe opening scene of The King’s Speech was, in a word, terrifying. The moment King George VI—wonderfully played by Colin Firth—stepped up to the microphone at Wembley Stadium, a rush of nervousness came over me. It took me back to my school days, standing at my desk, having to read aloud to the class. I whispered to my wife, Jill, “A stutterer(口吃者) wrote this screenplay(剧本).I grew up with a stutter, really afraid of trying to get through simple sentences—knowing that I would then, or later, be laughed at. I still remember the reading when I was in 7th grade at St. Helena’s: “Sir Walter Raleigh was a gentlemen…” I remember reciting, “Sir Walter Raleigh was a gentlemen.” The school teacher said, “Master B-B-B-Biden! What’s that word?” She wanted me to say gentlemen. But by then, I had learned to put my sentences into bite-size pieces and I was reading it: “gentle”|breath|“man”.Ninety-nine percent of the time, the teachers were great. I never ha d professional treatment but a couple of teachers taught me to put a regular rise and fall in my tone of speaking, and that’s why I spent so much time reading poetry. But even in my small, boys’ prep school, I got nailed in my class with the nickname Joe Stutterer. You get so desperate, you’re so embarrassed. I actually went and s tood by the side of my house once, with a small round stone in my mouth, and tried to talk. Jill alwaysthought I was kidding until she saw the movie and saw King George did the same thing.King George relied on the support his wife and the help of Lionel Longue, who, in describing working with other stutterers, said, “My job was to give them confidence in their voices and let them know that a friend was listening.” I was lucky enough to have more than a couple of Lionels in my life. Nobody in my family ever—ever—made fun of me or tried to finish my sentences. My mother would say, “Joey, you cannot let stuttering define you.” And because of her and others, I made sure it didn’t.Through hard work and determination, I beat my stutter in high school.I even spoke briefly at my graduation ceremony in 1961—the most difficult speech of my life. My fight against shyness and embarrassment at my early age has developed my ability to understand others’ feelings as Vice President of the country in public life. I still mark up all of my speeches the say way Firth’s character does in the movie,pencil-marking every line to remind myself to stop, to breathe, to pause—to beat back my stuttering as best as I can. I don’t stutter anymore, and most people who know me only late in my life are shocked that I ever did.By capturing exactly how a stutter feels, The King’s Speech has shown millions of people how much courage it takes for a stutterer to stand up and speak. Equally important, it has shown millions who suffer from the pain that it can be overcome, we are not alone, and with the support of those around us, our deepest fears can be conquered.55. The writer whispered to his wife, “A stutterer wrote this screenplay”, because __________.A. he desired to release his secret to his wifeB. he was reminded how it was as a stutterer on such occasionsC. he thought Colin Firth had a wonderful performance in the filmD. he wanted to make his wife realize why the film was so popular56. AttachedB. UncoveredC. HammeredD. Tricked58. What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 4 imply?A. The writer would have a good fortune to get help from many people.B. 高中英语阅读理解练习题1【LONDON】LONDON----A morning‘s train ride away, across the Channel, English kids talk about Liverpool‘s soccer team in a Paris pub. Some Parisians have even started to go to work in London. In the 19th century, Charles Dickens compared the two great rival(竞争的) cities, London and Paris, in‖ A Tale of Two Cities.‖ These days, it might be A Tale of One City.Parisians are these days likely to smile in sympathy at a visitor‘s broken French and respond in polite English. As jobs grew lack at home over recent years, perhaps 250000 Frenchmen moved across the Channel. With an undersea tunnel, they could travel between cities in three hours. The European Union freed them from immigration and customs.Paris, rich in beauty, is more attractive. But London feels more full of life, and more fun until the pubs shut down.―For me, the difference is that London is real, alive,‖ said Trevor Wheeler, a banker.Chantal Jaouen, a professional designer, agrees.‖ I am French, but I‘ll stay in London,‖ she said. There is, of course, the other view. Julie Lenoux is a student who moved to London two years ag o.‖ I think people laugh more in Paris,‖ she said.In fact, London and Paris, with their obvious new similarities, are beyond the old descriptions. As the European Union gradually loosened controls, Londoners flocked into Paris to shop, eat and buy property.―Both cities have changed beyond recognition.‖ said Larry Collins, a writer and sometimes a Londoner.Like most people who know both well, he finds the two now fit together comfortably. ―I first fell in love with Paris in the 1950s, and it is still a wo nderful place,‖ Collins said. ―But if I had to choose, it would be London. Things are so much more ordered, and life is better.‖But certainly not cheaper. In fancy parts of London, rents can be twice those on Avenue Foch in Paris. Deciding between London and Paris requires a lifestyle choice.Like Daphne Benoit, a French journalism student with perfect English, many young people are happy to be close enough so they don‘t have to choose.―I love Paris, my little neighborhood, the way I can walk around a cen ter, but life is so structured,‖ she said. ―In London, you can be who you wan. No one cares.‖1.The best title for this passage is______.A. Londoners and ParisiansB. A Modern Tale of Two CitiesC. The Similarity of Two CitiesD. 3-6英语每日一练-阅读Nuclear power’s danger to health, safety, and even life itself can be summed up in one word:radiation.Nuclear radiation has a certain mystery about it,partly because it cannot be detected by human senses. It can’t be seen or heard,or touched or tasted, even though it may be all around us. There are other things like that. For example, radio waves are all around us but we can’t detect them, sense them, without a radio receiver. Similarly,we can’t sense radioactivity without a radiation detector. But unlike common radio waves, nuclear radiation is not harmless to human beings and other living things. At very high levels, radiation can kill an animal or human being outright by killing masses of cell in vital organs. But even the lowest levels can do serious damage. There is no level of radiation that is completely safe. If the radiation does not hit anything important, the damage may not be significant. This is the case when only a few cells are hit,and if they are killed outright. Your body will replace the dead cells with healthy ones. But if the few cells are only damaged, and if they reproduce themselves, you may be in trouble. They reproduce themselves in a deformed way. They can grow into cancer. Sometimes this does not show up for many years. This is another reason for some of the mystery about nuclear radiation. Serious damage can be done without the victim being aware at the time that damage has occurred. A person can be irradiated and feel fine, then die of cancer five, ten,or twenty years lat er as a result. Or a child can be born weak or liable to serious illness as a result of radiation absorbed by its grandparents. Radiation can hurt us. We must know the truth.36.According to the passage, the danger of nuclear power lies in .A. nuclear mysteryB. radiation detectionC. radiation levelD. nuclear radiation37. Radiation can cause serious consequences even at the lowest level .A. when it kills few cellsB. if it damages few cellsC. though the damaged cells can repair themselvesD. unless the damaged cells can reproduce themselves38.The word“significant”in paragraph 3 most probably means .A. responsibleB. meaningfulC. fatalD. harmful39.Radiation can hurt us in the way that it can .A. kill large numbers of cells in main organs so as to cause death immediatelyB. damage cells which may grow into cancer years laterC. affect the healthy growth of our offspringD. All of the above40.Which of the following can be best inferred from the passage?A. The importance of protection from radiation cannot be over-emphasized.B. The mystery about radiation remains unsolved.C. Cancer is mainly caused by radiation.D. Radiation can hurt those who are not aware of its danger.答案解析:核能对健康、安全甚至生命本身构成的危害可以概括为一个词:辐射。
每日一练(一)1. 阅读理解(每小题2分)AFrench children are saying “Hello” to the new academic year and “Bye” to their cell phones during school hours. That’s because a new law has come into effect which bans phone use by students up to the age of 15. The legislation, which follows a campaign promise by French President Emmanuel Macron, also bans tablets and smart watches. The ban is also in place at break times, with exceptions in cases of emergency and for disabled children, the French Education Ministry said in a statement. In emergencies, students can ask their teachers for permission to use their phones. Meanwhile, high schools can voluntarily carry out the measure.Education Minister Jean-Michel Blanquer said the new rules aim to help children focus on lessons, better socialize and reduce social media use. The ban is also designed to fight online bullying and prevent thefts and violence in school. Blanquer has claimed the legislation would improve discipline among France’s 12 million school students, nearly 90% of whom have mobile phones. “Being open to technologies of the future doesn’t mean we have to accept all their uses,” Blanquer said in June as the bill was going through in Parliament. As for enforcement, it’s up to individual school administrations to decide how to put through the ban. School principals can decide to store students’ phones in lockers or allow them to keep them, switched off, in their backpacks. The law allows teachers to take away the phones until the end of the day in case of someone disobeying the bans.Jacqueline Kay-Cessou, whose 14-year-old son, David, is entering eighth grade at the Camille See International School, told the reporter she was happy to hear of the ban. “It’s fantastic news. It’s something I’ve wanted for years,” Kay-Cessou said. “I think phones are socially harmful. Kids can’t think and sit still anymore and it’s highly addictive.”1. What is the new rule for ordinary French students in the new term?A. They are not allowed to use their watches.B. They should follow President Macron.C. They should say “Hello” to school teachers.D. They can’t use their cell phones at school.2. What is the opinion of Jean-Michel Blanquer?A. Cell phones are the main reason for school violence.B. The society should be strict with the school students.C. New technology should be properly applied at school.D. None of the young students should have mobile phones.3. Who is/are responsible for carrying out the ban?A. The school administrators.B. The student monitors.C. The students’ parents.D. The Education Minister.4. What is the purpose of the last paragraph?A. To show the parental response to the ban.B. To provide a conclusion for the text.C. To offer an example for the new law.D. Of all the components of a good night's sleep, dreams seem to be least within our control. Indreams, a window opens into a world where logic is suspended and dead people speak. Acentury ago, Freud formulated his revolutionary theory that dreams were the disguisedshadows of our unconscious desires and fears; by thelate 1970s, neurologists had switched tothinking of them as just "mental noise"-the random byproducts of the neural repair work thatgoes on during sleep. Now researchers suspect that dreams are part of the mind's emotionalthermostat, regulating moods while the brain is "off line." And one leading authority says thatthese intensely powerful mental events can be not only harnessed but actually brought underconscious control, to help us sleep and feel better. "It's your dream," says RosalindCartwright, chair of psychologyat Chicago's Medical Center, "if you don't like it, change it."
he link between dreams and emotions shows up among the patients in Cartwright's clinic. Mostpeople seem to have more bad dreams early in the night, progressing toward happier onesbefore awakening, suggesting that they are working through negative feelings generatedduring the day. Because our conscious mind is occupied with daily life we don't always thinkabout the emotional significance of the day's events-until, it appears, we begin to dream.
And this process need not be left to the unconscious.
Cartwright believes one can exerciseconscious control over recurring bad dreams. As soon as you awaken, identify what isupsetting about the dream. Visualizehow you would like it to end instead; the next time itoccurs, try to wake up just enough to control its course. With much practice people can learnto, literally, do it in their sleep.
At the end of the day, there's probably little reason to pay attention to our dreams at all unlessthey keep us from sleeping or "we wake up in panic," Cartwright says. Terrorism, economicuncertainties and general feelings of insecurity have increased people's anxiety. Thosesuffering from persistent nightmares should seek help from a therapist. For the rest of us, thebrain has its ways of working through bad feelings.Sleep-or rather dream-on it and you'll feelbetter in the morning.

D.identify what is upsetting about the dreams
4.The author points out that a person who has constant bad dreams should ______

C.sleep and dream on it
D.get rid of anxiety first
5.The author most probably thinks that controlling dreams is ______.
A.a good practice
B.a new discovery
C.helpful for everyone
D.not essential for everyone
疗的医生,由此可见,选项B是对原文seek help from a therapist的近义替换。
5.[D] 观点态度题。
根据最后一句可以推断作者认为如无必要,梦还是不要控制的好。
做梦会让你早上感觉舒服一些,因此本题应选D。
