发型（hairstyle/hairdo/haircut）指头发（head hair）的剪法（styling）。
发式的设计（fashioning）是个人卫生（personal grooming）、时尚（fashion）与化妆（cosmetics）的一部分（aspect）。
下面介绍一些具体的发式【按照字母顺序】：
Afro：上世纪七十年代在美国很流行。
bangs/fringe：刘海。
bangs是美国英语。
梳在头前（in front of the head）、在眼眉处或高于眼眉（at or above the eyebrows）的头发。
beehive：
bob cut：经典短发（classic short hairstyle），末端长度在下巴左右（the ends are cut around chin length），末端与脸部平行（aligned to facial area）。
Chinese bob剪到脖子（neckline）；pob的前端头发比bob 稍微长些；pageboy则可长到肩膀（shoulder-length）。
bowl cut：也叫beach cut、pot haircut、chili pot、mushroom cut。
接近汉语的‘茶壶盖’发型。
bouffant：头上高耸（piled high up the head），两边下垂（hanging down on the sides）。
bun：头发在头顶打结（the hair is
pulled into a knot at the top of the head）。
buzz cut：用剃刀（razor）刮短。
Caesar cut：
chonmage：传统日本发型（traditional
Japanese haircut）。
comb over：一般用来掩盖秃头（to cover up a bald spot），可以从一侧向另一侧，也可以从前到后。
cornrows：编成小辫子（braided into a series of French braids），像一绺绺头发（lock），紧贴头皮（cling to the head），向后一直到脖子（travel
down to the back of the neck）。
crew cut：头顶的头发剪得比较短，长度逐渐变长，前发际线（hairline）处最长，两侧和后部逐渐变短（tapered）。
属于稍微长些的buzz cut。
crop：贴头皮的短发型。
croydon facelift：头顶是扎紧的马尾辫（tight ponytail）。
也有人叫它top knot，尽管它不是结。
curtained hair：刘海比较长，中分或侧分刘海（middle parting or side parting）。
The David May：英国球星。
devilock：这个比较类似潘长江的头型。
前端很长，并向前梳（combed forward）。
dido flip：
dreadlocks：头发
duck's ass/ducktail：男士短发，在靠近脖子处有长绺头发（long lock）。
emo hair：特点是盖住眼睛浓密刘海（heavy, over the eye fringe）。
evanstyle：日本视觉系（visual kei）乐迷的法式。
fauxhawk：因为贝克汉姆（David Beckham）而闻名。
也叫frohawk。
因为酷似墨霍克（Mohawk）印第安人发型而得名。
feathered hair：一般用剃刀分很多层（layer），而不是用剪刀（shears）。
feelers：类似络腮胡（sideburns）。
耳朵前面头发是长而直的，其它部分则短发。
finger wave：
flattop：头顶上部是平的。
fofa：一般为年纪大些的秃顶的人的发型，从修道士（monk）法式演变而来。
fontange：17世纪流行的一种女性发型。
French braid：
French twist：high and tight：hime cut：
highlights：指挑染头发，在亚洲青少年里很流行。
也叫hair highlighting。
hi-top fade：
horseshoe flattop：
induction cut：除了刮头发之外最短的发型。
得名于刚入伍的新兵发型。
jheri curl：上世纪八十年代非洲裔美国人（African-Americans）中流行。
khokhol：乌克兰哥萨克（Ukrainian Cossack）典型发型。
layered hair：女士发型。
前端剪成不同长度的层次。
liberty spikes：
long hair：长度到肩膀以下的发型。
Mohawk：
mop-top hair：mullet：
Odango：pageboy：
part：指将头发分缝。
perm：指permanent wave。
指用化学（chemical）或加热（thermal）方法制造波浪（wave）或卷儿（curl）。
