Unit 8Section B ＆Self-Check1. Just go along Bridge Street and turn left/right when you see the library. 就沿着大桥街走,当你看见图书馆时就向左/右转。

(1)along介词,意为“沿着”,常用于go,walk等之后。

另外,在这个用法上,还可以用down和up,如:Go down/up Green Street and turn left. 沿着格林街走下/上去,然后左转。

辨析：al ong,down,up①可表“顺着,沿着”的意思,在它们后面常跟表街道、道路、河流的名词。

后跟河流时,介词down 有时含有“在下游”的意思,介词up则含有“在上游”的意思。

例如:We’re taking a walk along/down/up the street.我们正沿着这条街散步。

The factory is 1,000 meters up/down the river. 这家工厂在这条河上游/下游1,000米处。

②介词down含有离说话人而去的意思,介词up含有朝说话人而来的意思,而along则不强调方向。

例如:Who’s the old woman coming up/going down the road?沿着这条路走来/走去的那个老太太是谁?go along 和go down这两个词在表示沿着路走的时候没有多大区别,如果细分的话,go down指向南(上北下南),go along则向北向南都可以。

③介词up有“向上”的意思,介词down有“往下”的意思。

如:The cat is running up the tree. 猫往树上爬去。

The children are running down the hill. 孩子们从山上跑了下来。

④along,down和up都可以用作副词,表示“向前”。

例如:It’s about two hundred meters along on the right.大约在前面200米处,靠右边。
