我不知道的表达beats me前面省略了一个“it”,而beats me的意思为“use to say you don't know something, or cannot understand or explain it.”(被用来表达“你不知道某事”,或者无法理解和解释它)。
Beats me why he wants such a big car.
-What's he saying?
由此可见,beats me等同于I don't know,它们彼此可以替换。
我们再来看一些例子:-Why did he do such a stupid thing?
(It) beats me why he did such a stupid thing.
There's only one question that beats me.
今天既然讲到“我不知道”,那么除了I don't know和刚刚介绍的beats me之外,我们还可以用哪些表达呢?I have no idea.
I haven't the faintest idea.
I haven't the faintest idea.
