Unit5 Lesson3 教学设计
本节课是高中英语第二册Unit 5 Human and Nature的第三课Race to the Pole,课型是阅读课,介绍了两组人同时出发去南极途中所发生的事情,并讲述了探险过程中是如何面对困难的。通过本节课的学习,让学生了解人类与南极的关系以及在面对困难时如何克服。
1. 语言技能目标
(1)学生能够借助关键词,在理解文章大意的基础上,找出段落主题句,完成读前问题;
(2)用所学的词汇和语言的对课文进行复述。
2. 语言知识目标
(1)能够正确运用以下单词和短语:sledge, ambition, hopeless, continent, disaster, have
difficulty (in) doing sth, be similar to, spirit, bravery等;
(2)能正确使用后缀。
3. 文化意识目标
(1)了解不同文化背景下对南极探索的理解;
(2)正确认识南极探索的挑战。
4. 情感态度目标
了解南极探险所面临的困难,正确认识人类对大自然的探索,从而进一步意识到如何做到人与自然和谐相处。

(1)如何使用地道的英语表达南极探险;
(2)正确理解并适当运用词类后缀。

(1)能用得体的英语表达南极探险者的心情及面对困难时的决心;

about Antarctica and try to let
students to discuss the following

backgrounds about Antarctica and
pictures on Page36 in textbook and
let students to discuss the following
questions:
1) What difficulties do you think
explorers may face there?
2) What preparations do they need

Pre-reading Here is an account of two teams’
journey to the South Pole. Teacher
should remind students of using
skimming skills to get the general
meaning of the whole text. And give
students a few moments to skim the

Deep-reading 1. Read again and complete the
information about the two
exploration teams. Then talk about
the journeys based on your notes.
2. Summarise the change of feelings
on Scott’s teams return journey.
Give reasons for the words or
phrases you have chosen.
3. Read the underlined sentences
from Scott’s diary and letter. Work
out the implied meaning of these
sentences from the context. Write
your inferences below. (Refer to the

Read the sentences from Scott’s
dairy and letter again.

in each one.

you most and explain why.
3. Why do you think the writer of
the text used the word “race” in the
title?
4. Why was the world shocked by
