(建议用时:35分钟)Ⅰ.阅读理解A(2020·桂林、崇左联合模拟)Jamey Turner often performs to large crowds in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. You can find him playing an unusual musical instrument, the glass harp(竖琴), near Alexandria’s historic waterfront.A glass harp is made up of differentsized drinking glasses, each containing water. Turner makes music by running his fingers over the tops of the glasses. By doing so, each glass makes a different musical sound.Turner is 78 years old now. He became interested in playing the glass harp at the age of six, when he heard his father playing with a glass of water at the dinner table. He has been playing it for 50 years.Today Turner puts together his instrument by placing 60 different glasses on a wooden soundboard. He holds the glasses in place with rubber bands, which keeps them from breaking. He then adds different amounts of water to each one to create different musical notes. Adding or taking away just a little water will change the sound. Adding water to a glass will make a lower sound. The smaller bowls of water produce a higher sound, while the larger ones produce a lower, deeper sound.Turner always uses lowpriced glass because it sounds better than costly crystal(水晶) and he has more control over the sound. Before buying new glasses, he will test them in stores. The glass harp was popular 300 years ago when composers like Wolfgang Mozart wrote music for the instrument. There have been about 400 pieces of music written just for the glass harp. But Turner plays all kinds of music, even popular music from China. Few people play the glass harp these days, but Turner says he sees videos of people experimenting with the instrument on the Internet. He hopes the next generation will continue making their music.【解题导语】杰米·特纳经常在弗吉尼亚州亚历山大人群密集的地方演奏玻璃竖琴:敲击不同大小的盛水的玻璃杯,发出动听的乐声。
Ⅰ.阅读理解(建议用时15′)AIt may seem to be a hard task to trace W1back the history of rap music, though you often see the informal music associated w ith P1highly informal dance style. As far as the origin of rap music is concerned P2,most people agree that it is from Afro-American and Latino Street culture of New York City. Not only in this city but also in the surrounding areas there is the influence of African people and their culture.Rap is a vocal (口头的) style in which the performer speaks rhythmically and in thyme, generally to a beat W2. The term of rap music is the same with hip-hop music typically-consisting of a rhythmic vocal style called rap. If we see it carefully, then we will definitely notice that the music usually is sung at higher pitches (调). Most of the time rap music is associated with chorus. Though rap music was primarily W3an American music style with African influence over its music and lyrics, recently it has been spread to almost the entire world. There is hardly any country or nation where rap music cannot be seen in some form or another, and it is one of the most popular music styles among the youngsters. However, when it comes to its history, it is believed that hip-hop or rap music started in the early 1970s, and gained much popularity throughout the world during the late 1970s and early 1980s.The history of rap music and hip-hop music is full of controversies (争议) and bans, as the lyrics sometimes relate to drugs and crime; even most famous pop stars and hip-hop musicians and singers were found to be associated with the controversies in their life. For that reason, no matter how popular this music style was or still is, it has always had a bad reputation in the eyes of mainstream W4society.篇章导读:本文介绍了说唱音乐的进展过程及其现在的影响力。

It helps a preschooler(学龄前儿童):Develop social skillsAs children play pretend, they explore relationships between family members, friends and coworkers and learn more about how people interact. Playing doctor, they imagine how physician s care for their patients. Playing house, they learn more about how parents feel about their children. Imaginative play helps develop empathy(同情) for others. If children can imagine how it feels to be left out of a game or to lose a pet, they are better able to help those in need. They become more willing to play fair, to share, and to cooperate.Build selfconfidenceYoung children have very little control over their lives. When children roleplay about the big, bad monster under the bed, they gain a sense of control o ver him and he doesn't seem quite so big or so bad. Imaginative play also helps kids vent(发泄) confusing feelings they might have, such as anger toward a parent orcompete with a new sibling(兄弟姐妹).To encourage your youngster's imagination, read to him every day. Books offer children the opportunity to visit other world s and create new ones of their own. For generations children have enjoyed reading the story of Peter Pan because Peter takes them on fascinating adventures.Reader's Digest Young Families offers a beautiful typical Disney edition of Peter Pan, which is an iParenting Media Award winner. Whether it could or not, some people are worrying about the possibility that phones, power lines and wifi could be responsible for a range of illnesses, from rashes to brain tumors. Some say there is evidence to support the growing anxieties. David Carpenter, a professor of environmental health sciences at the university at Albany, in New York, thinks there's a greater than 95 percent chance that power lines can cause childhood leukemia(白血病). Also there's a greater than 90 percent chance that cellphones can cause brain tumors. “It's apparent now that there's a real risk,” said Carpenter. But others believe these concerns are unjustified. Dr Martha Linet, the head of radiation epidemiology(流行病学) at the US National Cancer Institute, has looked at the same research as Carpenter but has reached a different conclusion. “I don't support warning labels for cellphones,” said Linet. “We don't have the evidence that there's much danger.”Studies so far suggest a weak connection between EMFs(电磁场) and illness-so weak that it might not exist at all. A multinational investigation of cellphones and brain cancer, in 13 countries outside the US, has been underway for several years. It's funded i n part by the European Union, in part by a cellphone industry group. The final report should come out later this year, but data so far don't suggest a strong link between cellphone use and cancer risk.20.From the passage we can learn that some people are worried because________.A.they have evidence that the use of cellphones can lead to cancerB.they make a fuss over cellphone useC.some experts have given a warningD.cellphones are responsible for brain tumors21.By saying “I don't support warning labels for cellphones,” Dr Martha Linet has the idea that________.A.the worrying is unnecessaryB.cancerwarning labels should be on cellphonesC.there is a link between cellphones and cancerD.cellphones have nothing to do with cancer22.The underlined word “underway” is closest in meaning to________.A.started B.kept on C.gone on D.in progress23.Which of the following best describes the attitude of the author towards the debate?A.Optimistic. A Danger to Children’s HealthD. Sleep Time and OverweightDIn the English language there are striking similarities to many of the characteristics present in Spanish, French, and German. So what are the things that make English so difficult for foreign people to learn?English doesn’t necessarily have more regular consonant(辅音)or vowel(元音)sounds than other languages, but how the stress is placed on some of those consonants or vowels makes it such a difficult language for learners. There are hard and soft consonants like “c” taking on a “k” sound or an“s”sound depending upon the situation. There are silent letters in some words and then some consonants that take on an entirely different sound (like “th”)when combined. The changes in the pronunciation of words make English much more difficult to learn.Another thing that makes English difficult to learn has to do with verb tense. Some languages have very limited changes in verb tense, sometimes just present and past, which makes it relatively simple to grasp. English, on the other hand, is a bit more difficult in this area. For example, in different situations it may be proper to use any of the following tenses: present, past, future, past perfect or present perfect. The verb “choose”can be used in the following forms depending on tense: choose, chose or chosen. This can be very difficult for a foreigner to grasp.Slang is more widely used in American English than proper grammar. In the U.S. just knowing the language as it’s generally taught isn’t enough. In every single region or even close neighborhoods, the same slang terms make an almost entirely different language. In some areas there are repeatedly used terms thatwouldn’t even be found in the Webster’s Dictionary. They are created by locals and only locals understand them. This can make it very difficult for someone not familiar with the language to get used to it, especially if they don’t remain in one area for a very long period.51. The purpose of this passage is to ___.A. give advice on how to learn English wellB. tell us why English is very difficult to learnC. encourage us to speak formal EnglishD. tell us how to deal with slang terms in English52. According to the passage, the letter “c” in English___.A. is always stressedB. never takes on an“s”soundC. has at least two soundsD. is often silent53. Compared with some other languages, ___.A. English has more changes in verb tenseB. English has more regular rules of pronunciationC. English verbs have fewer formsD. English has more vowel sounds54. From the passage we know that slang ___.A. is spread all over the worldB. can only be found in American EnglishC. is commonly used by some particular groupsD. has meanings that can only be found in dictionaries55. It can be inferred from the passage that ___.A. pronunciation is the most difficult thing in learning EnglishB. all the slang terms should be added to the Webster’s DictionaryC. if you want to learn English well you first should learn some slang termsD. people may understand the local language after living in a place for yearsⅣ. 根据短文内容完成表格(每小题1分,共10分)Global warming is one of the major environmental problems we are facing today. Scientists think a further rise in the carbon dioxide levels will make this situation worse. The greenhouse effect causes theearth’s heat to be trapped in the atmosphere, which results in the increase in temperature. This in turn has an effect on various plants and animals. Global warming makes it difficult for some of them to survive.Ozone depletion(臭氧耗损)means a drop in the quantity of the ozone in the earth’s stratosphere(平流层).The ozone hole in the Antarctic is mainly due to the release of CFCs(a type of gas). Because of ozone depletion, humans are facing various problems such as the harmful effects of UV rays.Water pollution is caused when wastes are thrown into water. What’s more, many harmful chemicals are also put into water, which causes the deaths of many wild animals and endangers the health of humans. The increasing population is causing a loss of natural resources. This is related to various human activities. For example, overfishing has caused many kinds of fishes to die out. Forests are being cleared to meet the rising demand for paper, wood, even for land. Mining(采矿)has led to a further drop in mineral resources. If we used up all the resources, how could our children survive on this planet. These are some of the current environmental problems we are facing today. Only with an effort from each person, can we hope to save our planet from being destroyed.Ⅴ. 短文改错(共10分)Chinese students celebrates their birthdays in different ways, and the most common way was to hold a birthday party, on which friends get together to have a fun drinking, singing, and dancing. On the birthday, one usually accepts nice gifts and good wishes from friends and parents. Sometimes parents will prepare for a special dinner or a cake to show their love for their children. Therefore, most children are looking forward to spending their own birthdays and enjoy themselves. Though birthday celebration is one of the important activity in one’s life, it can be done in some more meaningful way. For example, we can buy some flowers or cook a delicious meal for our mothers. 专题2.5 Music【测试与练习】一、阅读理解A【全国百强校】吉林省长春外国语学校2016-2017学年高一下学期期末考试英语试题Would it surprise you to learn that, like animals, trees communicate with each other and pass on their wealth to the next generation?UBC Professor Simard explains how trees are much more complex than most of us ever imagined. Although Charles Darwin thought that trees are competing for survival of the fittest, Simard shows just how wrong he was. In fact, the opposite is true: trees survive through their co-operation and support, passing around necessary nutrition “depending on who needs it”.Nitrogen (氮) and carbon are shared through miles of underground fungi (真菌) networks, making sure that all trees in the forest ecological system give and receive just the right amount to keep them all healthy. This hidden system works in a very similar way to the networks of neurons (神经元) in our brains, and when one tree is destroyed, it affects all.Simard talks about “mother trees”, usually the largest and oldest plants on which all other trees depend. She explains how dying trees pass on the wealth to the next generation, transporting important minerals to young trees so they may continue to grow. When humans cut down “mother trees” with no awareness of these highly complex “tree societies” or the ne tworks on which they feed, we are reducing the chances of survival for the entire forest.“We didn’t take any notice of it.” Simard says sadly. “Dying trees move nutrition into the young trees before dying, but we never give them a chance.” If we could put across the message to the forestry industry, we could make a huge difference towards our environmental protection efforts for the future.1.What would be the best title for the passage?A. Old Trees Communicate Like HumansB. Young Trees Are In Need Of ProtectionC. Trees Contribute To Our SocietyD. Trees Are More Complex Than You Think2.In Simard’s opinion, trees .A. protect their own wealthB. depend on each otherC. compete for survivalD. provide support for dying trees3.We can learn from the passage that .A. if “mother trees” are cut down, the survival for the entire forest will be affectedB. “mother trees” are usually of no use to other treesC. Charles Darwin had the same thought as SimardD. people know much about the com plex “tree societies”【答案】1.D2.B3.A【解析】文章介绍树和树之间不是你死我活的竞争关系,它们之间是相互依赖的,快要死的树会将自己的营养传给小树让它们更好的成长,人们如果知道这些现象,就可以更好的保护这些树。
3. A细节题:根据文章第四段的句子:She explains how dying trees pass on the wealth to the next generation, transporting important minerals to young trees so they may continue to grow.可知mother trees之所以重要是因为它们将营养传给小树,选A。
