Their high sensitivity and broad frequency range make them suitable for recording, as well as sound reinforcement applications.The MX400SE series can be screwed onto a mic stand or the supplied 5/8 in. 27-threaded flange. They can be easily changed from side exit to bottom exit to conceal the cabling. All models include an in-line preamplifier, a 3.66 m (12 ft.) cable.Wide dynamic range and frequency response for accurate sound reproductionInterchangeable cartridges that provide a choice of polar pattern for each application Shock mount provides over 20 dB of isolation from surface vibration noise Snap-fit foam windscreen RF filteringModel VariationsMX400 microphones are available with 305 mm (12 in.) or 457 mm (18 in.) goosenecks, with or without a mute switch. Contact an authorized Shure service center for information.RFI FilteringImportant: Microphones must be used with the RK100PK or RK202PK plate-mounted preamp to optimize RF immunity.Microphone PlacementAim the microphone toward the desired source, such as the talker.Aim it away from any unwanted source, such as a loudspeaker.Place the microphone within 15 to 30cm (6 to 12 in.) of the desired sound source.Always use the supplied windscreen or optional metal windscreen to control breath noise.•If four or more microphones will be open at the same time, use of an automatic mixer, such as the Shure SCM810 or SCM410, is recommended.Permanent InstallationChanging from Side Exit to Bottom ExitDo not cut the cable to reroute. This will compromise RF immunity.Mount the microphone using one of the following methods.FlangeSlip the mounting flange retaining ring over the bottom of the preamplifier and slide it up until it is flush to the bottom of the flange. Optimized fre-quency response and a unidirectional (cardioid) pickup patter makes them ideal for language labs, paging applications, and base station communications. They are also recommended for use as talkback or cuing microphones in TV, film, and recording studios. Using balanced-line low-impedance cables permits very long cable lengths without af-fecting response or level. The RED and BLACK cable leads are the microphone conductors for balanced-line connections; the shield is connected to the amplifier ground.For unbalanced operation, connect the BLACK lead to the shield, and use the RED lead as the microphone conductor.The GREEN and WHITE cable leads are used to control an exter-nal relay or control circuit. Refer to the following table and to the wiring diagram in Figure 4.FIGURE 4MOUNTING THE 515SBG-18X AND 515SBG-18XFMount the 515SBG-18X or 515SBG-18XF as follows:1.Thread the supplied hexnut all the way down on the mountingflange.2.Thread the gooseneck tightly on the flange.3.Back the hexnut up against the gooseneck, and use a wrenchto tighten the nut firmly against the bottom of the gooseneck.MOUNTING THE 515SBX ONTO A GOOSENECKMount the 515SBGX onto a gooseneck or fixed pipe with a 5/8 in-27 thread as follows:1.Unscrew the black end cap from the microphone.2.Remove the thin metal washer and the metal spacer.3.Re-install the washer by sliding it back onto the cable and upinto the end of the microphone.4.Slip the cable into the gooseneck or pipe and thread themicrophone firmly to the mount.For additional service or parts information, please contact Shure's Service department at 1-800-516-2525.
