Lucid Waters and Lush Mountains are Invaluable Assets
Hi everyone! My name is Amy and I'm a 5th grader at
Greenwood Elementary School. Today I want to talk to you about
something really important - taking care of our environment.
Specifically, I'm going to explain why lucid waters (clean rivers,
lakes and oceans) and lush mountains (mountains covered in
green forests and vegetation) are so valuable. They are literally
worth their weight in gold!
To start, let me ask you this - what do you think of when you
picture a beautiful natural environment? Maybe you imagine a
crystal clear lake surrounded by tall pine trees. Or a bubbling
stream winding through a lush green valley. Or even majestic
snow-capped mountains towering over a pristine alpine meadow.
Doesn't that just make you want to breathe deep and feel
refreshed?
Well, those kinds of lucid waters and lush mountains don't
just happen by chance. They exist because people have worked hard to protect the environment in those areas. And we need to
keep protecting environments like that because they are
extremely valuable!
How are they valuable? Let me count the ways:
They provide us with clean air and water. The forests and
mountains filter pollution out of the air we breathe. The lakes,
rivers and oceans are sources of fresh drinking water that
millions of people rely on. Without clean air and water, we
couldn't survive!
They are home to countless plants and animals. All those
trees, flowers, fish, birds and other critters need healthy
environments to live in. Destroying forests and polluting waters
makes animals lose their homes and food sources. Many species
have already gone extinct because we haven't taken good
enough care of nature.
They produce valuable resources like timber, minerals, and
food. We get so many of the raw materials we need to make
things and eat from forests, mountains and waters. If we overuse
or pollute those areas, we'll run out of those resources.
They protect us from natural disasters. Forests and
vegetated mountains prevent soil erosion, mudslides, and floods. They act like buffers against storms, high winds, and even
droughts. With more pollution and deforestation, natural
disasters keep getting worse.
They provide opportunities for jobs and income. Industries
like tourism, fishing, forestry and mining provide employment
for people thanks to lucid waters and lush mountains. Protecting
those environments helps economies thrive.
They offer beauty, recreation and peace of mind. I don't
know about you, but I feel so much calmer and happier when I
get to spend time in nature. Parks, hiking trails, campsites, lakes
and rivers give us wonderful places to stay active, de-stress and
connect with the great outdoors.
Can you see now why keeping our waters lucid and
mountains lush is so extraordinarily valuable? They are worth far
more than any amount of money or gold. A destroyed
environment means no clean air to breathe, no fresh water to
drink, no homes for plants and animals, no natural resources,
more natural disasters, job losses and no beautiful parks and
recreation areas.
Pollution, deforestation, overfishing and over-development
are huge threats that could ruin lucid waters and lush mountains
for future generations. We have to take much better care of these precious environments through conservation,
sustainability and green practices.
Individuals can help by doing things like reducing energy
use, recycling, avoiding single-use plastics, picking up litter and
respecting wildlife when hiking or camping. Communities can
create greenbelts, pass laws protecting waterways, and provide
incentives for solar power and electric vehicles. Governments
should designate more parks and wildlife reserves while limiting
industrial development in sensitive areas.
At the end of the day, our health, prosperity and overall
quality of life depends on keeping waters lucid and mountains
lush. I hope this essay has inspired you to be an environmental
steward and protector of nature. We all need to treat lucid
waters and lush mountains as the invaluable assets that they
truly are - our very own real life "gold mines" and "money trees."
Let's work together to nurture and sustain these life-giving
natural wonders for ourselves and future generations. Thank
you!
