定额市鞍钢阳光实验学校2019版高考英语阅读理解一轮提升选练(21)李仕才AYou signed up for soccer, and played every game of the season.Sure, you’re not the best player on the team, but most days you gave it your all.Do you deserve a trophy(奖杯)?If the decision is up to Carol Dweck, the answer would likely be no.She’s a psychology professor at Stanford University, California. She says a player doesn’t have to be the best to get a trophy. But those who receive an award should have to work for it.She suggests trophies go to the most improved player, or the one who contributed most to the team spirit, as well as to those who play the best.“The trophy has to stand for something,” Dweck told TFK.“If we give a trophy to everyone, then the award has no value.” Dweck argues that giving kids trophies for particular reasons, such as improving in a sport, teaches kids that adults value hard work and trying our best.Others say that there’s no harm in giving awards to all kids who play a sport, regardless of how they played or whether or not they improved.“I think we should encourage kids’participation in sports,” says Kenneth Barish, a psychology professor at Weill Cornell Medical College, in New York City.“A trophy is one way to encourage kids’efforts.”Barish argues that when we single out only the best or even the most improved player with a trophy, we are teaching kids the wrong lesson. We are sending the message that winning is everything.“Winning is only part of the equation (等式),” Barish told TFK.“Playing sports also teaches kids about teamwork and the importance of exercise.”There will be plenty of opportunities for kids to learn about competition as they get older, says Barish. They’ll soon realize that only one soccer team wins the World Cup and only one football team wins the Super Bowl. For now, he thinks there’s nothing wrong with letting all kids who play a sport feel like winners. That means trophies for everyone.1.According to Carol Dweck, which player should receive a trophy?A.Tony, the most attractive player of the soccer team.B.David, a soccer player who is both clever and funny.C.Peter, who is ready to help his partners to score goals.D.Jim, a soccer player who tries his best to win the game.答案:C解析:推理判断题。

Can exercise during childhood protect you against memory loss many decades later? Exercise early in life seems to have lifelong benefits for the brain,in rats at least.“This is an animal study, but it shows that physical activity at a young age is very important—not just for physical development, but for the whole lifelong track of cognitive(认知的)development during ageing,”says Martin Wojtowicz of the University of Toronto,Canada. “In humans,it may delay the appearance of Alzheimer's disease(阿尔茨海默病),possibly to the point of preventing it.”Wojtowicz's team divided 80 young male rats into two equal groups, and placed running wheels in the cages of one group for a period of six weeks.Around four months later—when the rats had reached middle age—the team taught all the rats to connect an electric shock with being in a specific box. When placed in the box, they froze with fear. Two weeks later, the team tested the rats in three situations:exactly the same box in the same room, the same box with the room arranged differently, and a completely different box in a different room. The rats without access to a running wheel when they were young now froze the same percentage of times in each of these situations, suggesting they couldn't remember which one was dangerous. But those that had been able to run in their youth froze 40 to 50 percent less in both changed box settings.“The results suggest the amount of physical activity when we're young,at least for rats, has influence on the brain and cognitive health—in the form of better memories—when we're older,” says Arthur Kramer of Northeastern University in Boston, who has found that,in humans, exercise promotes the growth of new brain cells.1.The study shows that ________.A.physical activity is important for physical healthB.using the running wheels is of benefit to the rats' growthC.physical activity can prevent humans' Alzheimer's diseaseD.the more exercise a rat has when young, the better memory it will possess when older2.How are Paragraph 3 and 4 mainly developed?A.By analyzing causes.B.By giving an example.C.By describing the process.D.By showing differences.3.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 2 refer to?A.Exercise. Sometimes, you just can't help it. Maybe you're watching a sad movie, or thinking about the friend who moved away. Next thing you know, there's a lump in your throat, your eyes are watering, and you have tears running down your cheeks.A professor of psychology at Tilburg University, in the Netherlands, has studiedcrying.According to Vingerhoets, there're three types of tears. Basal tears are the first type. They act as a protective barrier between the eye and the rest of the world.Next are reflex tears. They wash your eyes clean when something gets in them. Finally, there're emotional tears. “These are released in response to emotional states,” explains Vingerhoets.Scientists believe crying has something to do with how humans developed and learned to depend on each other. “Humans are very complex social creatures,” says Lauren Bylsma, a professor from Pittsburgh University, in Pennsylvania. “It seems that tears can make them get help and support from others.”She says another reason why we weep is that humans have the longest developmental period of almost any animal. It takes a long time to grow up.Vingerhoets agrees. “I think that the reason why humans shed(流出)emotional tears has to do with our prolonged(延长的) childhood,” he says. “That's the time when we're still dependent on adults for love, protection and care. The major advantage of tears is that you can target them at a specific person.”Vingerhoets says this ability could have come in handy in prehistoric times, when humans were living among dangerous animals. Loud crying could attract predators(捕食者). Tears were a safer way to get attention. “In this case, it's better to use a silent signal to ask for help,” he says. Vingerhoets and Bylsma do frequent studies to better understand why humans cry.1.The tears mentioned in Paragraph 1 should belong to ________.A.basal tearsB.reflex tearsC.happy tearsD.emotional tears2.What is Vingerhoets' attitude to the effects of tears?A.Passive.B.Positive.C.Doubtful.D.Indifferent.3.The underlined phrase of “a silent signal” probably refers to ________.A.a written languageB.predatorsC.tearsD.loud crying4.What is the best title of the text?A.Types of TearsB.Precious TearsC.Secrets of TearsD.On Tears参考答案: 1.D; 2.B; 3.C; 4.C解析: 1.[推理判断题。

选修6 Unit 3 A healthy life李仕才一、阅读理解Aging brings wrinkles, sagging bodies and frustrating forgetfulness. But getting older is not all bad for many people. Mounting evidence suggests aging may be a key to happiness. There is conflicting research on the subject, however, and experts say it may all boil down to this: Attitude is everything.Older adults tend to be more optimistic and have a more positive outlook on life than their younger and stressed opposites. The big question is why seniors are happier.A recent study suggests one reason: Older adults remember the past through happy memories. Aging can bring more cheer as people become more comfortable with themselves and their roles in society. The older adults said they were enjoying more time with their family, spending more time on hobbies and having greater financial security and did not have to work. But others are doubtful about the link between happiness and growing older."The notion that those in old age are happiest is misleading," said Richard Easterlin, a professor of economics at the University of Southern California. "It is based on comparing people of different ages who are the same in terms of income, health, family life." Easterlin added, "When you take account of the fact that older people have lower income than younger, are less healthy, and more likely to be living alone, then you will find it hard to accept that they are happier. In fact, scientists have found that as people age, their health declines and social networks disappear as their friends die, which can make the elderly less happy.Even if one does give in to age's dark side, health and happiness don't always go hand-in-hand. It's all about attitude. Research by the University of Chicago’s Yang suggests that attitude about life and happiness, is partly shaped by the era in which a person was born. It turns out that individuals who adapt the best to changes also have the highest expected levels of happiness.Despite the conflicting findings about aging and happiness, the good news is thatthere doesn’t appear to be a limit to how much happiness one can achieve in one’s life. “Most people desire happiness,” Easterlin said. “To my knowledge, no one has identified a limit to attainable happiness.”1.What does the last paragraph mainly tell us?A. The key factor to older adults’ happinessB. There is a conflict between aging and happinessC. No one can define the limit to happiness.D. The relationship between health and happiness.2.Why are some seniors happier according to some experts?A. They focus on what makes them feel good.B. They have their own circle of friends.C. They have better income after retirement.3.What can we learn from the passage?A. People of the same age have the same sense of happiness.B. Attitude may play a very important role in happiness.C. People who adapt the best to changes are more likely to be unhappy.D. Older adults who have more valuable life experience are more optimistic.4.What’s the topic discussed in the passage?A. 2019高考英语一轮阅读理解选练(3)李仕才AA business school in Paris will soon begin using artificial intelligence and facial analysis to determine whether students are paying attention in class. The software, called Nestor, is used in two online classes at the ESG business school beginning in September. The idea, according to LCA founder Marcel Saucet, is to use the data that Nestor collects to improve the performance of both students and professors. The software uses students webcams(网络摄像机)to analyze eye movements and facial expressions and determine whether students are paying attention to a video lecture. It then formulates quizzes based on the content covered during moments of inattentiveness. Professors would also be able to identify moments when students’ attention d eclined, which could help to improve their teaching, Saucet says.Advocates for AI in education say that the software is actually unable to teach a course, but the technology could be used as a digital tutor that would adapt to a student’s individual needs, and help develop more effective studying habits. Such software could also help teachers by providing feedback on the effectiveness of their teaching, advocates say.Saucet says Nestor won’t store any of the video footage it gets and that his company has no plans to sell any other data the software collects. In addition to facial recognition and analysis, the software can integrate(合并)with students’ calendars to suggest possible study times, and track their online behavior to pick up on patterns.Rose Luckin, a professor at the University College London Knowledge Lab, says AI could unlock the “black box of learning” by providing information on how and when learning happens. Luckin says a program like Nestor could be useful for students who take classes remo tely, since “there isn’t a human there watching them.” And while some are concerned that AI may one day replace teachers, Luckin sees the technology more as an assistant, rather than a replacement. Saucet agrees. “Human contact is not going to go away,” he says. “There will always be professors.”1.How does Nestor work to find out when students aren’t paying attention?A. By collecting the data of students’ performance in different classes.B. By collecting the students’ grades in the quizzes.C. By shooti ng and analyzing students’ eye movements and facial expressions..D. By identifying moments when students’ attention declined.2.Which is the benefit of AI education?A. It could be used exactly to replace a tutor.B. It helps student to develop more effective studying habits.C. The software is able to satisfy the requirement of a course.D. It could help teachers to give feedback on students’ performance..3.How does Nestor deal with the information collected from students?A. Nestor will use it to sugges t possible study time to students’ schedule.B. It won’t store any video footage but facial expression.C. 2019版高考英语阅读理解一轮提升选练(3)李仕才AThe story of Sir Nicholas Winton is the one that you would imagine could only happen on the silver screen. Sir Nicholas Winton was a British man who went to heroic efforts, potentially putting himself at risk, during World War II. Sir Winton was responsible for ensuring the safety of six hundred and sixty-nine Jewish children by aiding their escape from countries occupied by Nazis. Finally, the Jewish children were brought to England where he worked to make sure families in his native country would help the kids by taking them into their homes.Recently, this unbelievable story has again been making the rounds on the Internet, particularly after a rerun of the BBC show called“That’s Life”, which featured Sir Winton. People around the world were moved at the details of the story, with saying it to be the best story they’ve ever seen.Sir Winton kept his entire plan completely secret, even his wife had no idea about his planning until fifty years later. After the war, years passed and many people remained in the dark about Sir Winton’s extraordinary achievement. Some fifty years later, his wife Greta was searching in their house and discovered a Winton’s notebook which documented the names of all the children. She worked with BBC and they produced a TV episode (插曲) of their program“That’s Life” that served as an honor for Sir Winton’s work.In 2003, Sir Winton was knighted by the Queen of England for his work. He also was even nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize. He also had a small planet named after him by Czech astronomers. B(2015·江西九校联考)Sleeping in a room with too much light has been linked to an increased risk of piling on the pounds, a study shows. A team at the Institute of Cancer Research in London found women had larger waistlines if their bedroom was“light enough to see across” at night. However, they cautionthere is not enough evidence to advise people to buy thicker curtains or turn off lights. The women were asked to rate the amount of light in their bedrooms at night as:Light enough to read. Light enough to see across the room, but not read. Light enough to see your hand in front of you, but not across the room. Too dark to see your hand or you wear a mask.Prof.Anthony Swerdlow told the BBC:“In this very large group of people there is an association between reported light exposure at night and overweight and obesity. But there is not sufficient evidence to know if making your room darker would make any difference to your weight. There might be other explanations for the association, but the findings are intriguing enough to guarantee further scientific investigation.”The light is disrupting the body clock, which stems from our evolutionary past when we were active when it was light in the day and resting when it was dark at night. Light alters mood, physical strength and even the way we pro cess food in a 24hour cycle. Artificial light is known to disrupt the body clock by delaying the production of the sleep hormone melatonin.Prof.DerkJan Dijk said there would be no harm in trying to make bedrooms darker. He told the BBC:“People in general are not aware of the light present in their bedroom. I think people should assess their bedroom and see how easy it would be to make it darker.” Street lights, some alarm clocks and standby lights on electrical equipment such as televisions could light a room, he said.“Overall this study points to the importance of darkness,” he concluded.1.The passage mainly tells us ________.A.bright bedrooms link to obesityB.dark bedrooms link to obesityC.people should turn off lightsD.people should buy thicker curtains2.What does the underlined word“disrupting” in Paragraph 4 mean?A.Stopping.
