Who are Social workers?
• Graduates of school of social work (with either bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degrees) who use their knowledge and skills to provide social services for clients (who may be individuals, families, groups, communities, organizations, or society in general). Social workers help people increase their capacities for problem solving and coping, and they help people obtain needed resources, facilitate interactions between individuals and between people and their environments, make organization responsible to people, and influence social policies. (Barker, p.410)
What is Social work practice?
• The use of social work knowledge and social work skills to implement society’s mandate to provide social services in ways that are consistent with social work values. Practice including remediation, restoration (rehabilitating those whose social functioning has been impaired),and prevention. Some of the most important social work practice roles are clinician, administrator, advocate, broker, caregiver, case manager, communicator, consultant, data manage, evaluator, mobilizer, outreacher, planner, protector, researcher, socializer, supervisor, teacher, and upholder of equitable social values. Social work practice may occur in micro practice ,mezzo practice, or macro practice.
