英语美文摘抄6篇I have lived most of my life in the 20th century. You will live most of your lives in the 21st century. What does thefuture hold for your century?45 years ago, an American political leader, Wendell Willkie, traveled around the world and then wrote a best-selling book entitled, “One World.” World War 2 followed. The world was brutally battered by that war but it survived. Today the choice is either one world or no world. As I look ahead to the 21st century—to your century—I see one world. But the one world I see is not a world without differences between nations or peoples. Rather, it is one in which we all recognize that we have profound differences andthat we must learn to live with our differences rather than dying over them.I do not see a world without nuclear weapons. But I do see one where the awesome power of these weapons has made world war obsolete as an instrument of policy. For that reason, I do not believe there will be a Third World War.I see a world where the honor of being called great is bestowed not on the world’s warriors but in the world’s peacemakers. Some will question my optimism. But of this one thing I am sure: without cooperation between the Chinese people and the American people, there is no chance that the 21st century in which you will live will be a century of peace and progress forall people. This is what I hope for China. This is what I hope for the world. This is what I hope for you., the new generation of China, whose task is to help to build and to meet those goals.英文励志小短文篇二Donny is my little brother. 英语短篇美文篇1The thermometer had dropped to 18 degrees below zero, but still chose to sleep in the porch as usual. In the evening, the most familiar sight to me would be stars in the sky. Though they were a mere sprinkle of twinkling dots, yet I had become so accustomed to them that their occasional absence would bring me loneliness and ennui. It had been snowing all night, not a single star in sight. My roommate and I, each wrapped in a quilt, were seated far apart in a different corner of the porch, facing each other and chatting away. She exclaimed pointing to something afa r, “Look, Venus in rising!” I looked up and saw nothing but a lamp round the bend in a mountain path. I beamed and said pointing to a tiny lamplight on the opposite mountain, “It’s Jupiter over there!”More and more lights came into sight as we kept pointing here and there. Lights from hurricane lamps flickering about in the pine forest created the scene of a star-studded sky. With the distinction between sky and forest obscured by snowflakes, the numerous lamp-lights now easily passed for as many stars.Completely lost in a make-believe world, I seemed to see all the lamplights drifting from the ground. With the illusory stars hanging still overhead, I was spared the effort of tracing theirpositions when I woke up from my dreams in the dead of night. Thus I found consolation even on a lonely snowy night !英语短篇美文篇2You must study to be frank with the world:frankness is the child of honesty and courage. Say just what you mean to do, on every occasion. If a friend asks a favor, you should grant it, if it is reasonable; if not, tell him plainly why you cannot. You would wrong him and wrong yourself by equivocation of any kind.Never do a wrong thing to make a friend or keep one. The man who requires you to do so is dearly purchased at a sacrifice. Deal kindly but firmly with all your classmates. You will find it the policy which wears best. Above all, do not appear to others what you are not.If you have any fault to find with any one, tell him, not others, of what you complain. There is no more dangerous experiment than that of undertaking to do one thing before a man's face and another behind his back. We should say and do nothing to the injury of any one. It is not only a matter of principle, but also the path of peace and hornor.By Robert E. Lee英语短篇美文篇3The fortunate people in the world—the only reallyfortunate people in the world, in my mind, are those whose work is also their pleasure. The class is not a large one, not nearly so large as it is often represented to be; and authors are perhaps one of the most important elements in its composition. They enjoy in this respect at least a real harmony of life.To my mind, to be able to make your work your pleasure is the one class distinction in the world worth striving for; and I do not wonder that others are inclined to envy those happy humanbeings who find their livelihood in the gay effusions of their fancy, to whom every hour of labour is an hour of enjoyment, to whom repose—however necessary—is a tiresome interlude. And even a holiday is almost deprivation.Whether a man writes well or ill, has much to say or little, if he cares aboutwriting at all, he will appreciate the pleasures of composition. To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a Squeezer pen—that is true happiness. The complete absorption of the mind upon an agreeable occupation—what more is there than that to desire? What does it matter what happens outside? The House of Commons may do what it likes, and so may the House of Lords. The heathen may rage furiously in every part of the globe. The bottom may be knocked clean out of the American market. Consols may fall and suffragettes may rise. Nevermind, for four hours, at any rate, we will withdraw ourselves from a common, ill-governed, and disorderly world, and with the key of fancy unlock that cupboard where all the good things of the infinite are put away.英语短篇美文篇4John and Bobby joined a wholesale company togther just after graduation from college the same year. Both worked very hard. After several years, however, the boss promoted Bobby to theposotion of manager but John remained an ordinary employee. John could not take it anymore, tendered his resignation to the boss and complained the boss did not know how to delegate and did not value hard working staff, but only promoted those who flattered him.The boss knew that John worked very hard for the years. Hethought a moment and said, "Thank you for your criticism, but I have a request. I hope you will do one more thing for our company before you leave. Perhaps you will change your decision and take back your resignation."John agreed. The boss asked him to go and find out anyone selling watermelon in the market. John went and returned soon. He said he had found out a man selling watermelon. The boss asked how much per kg? John shook his head and went back to the market to ask and returned to inform the boss $1.2 per kg.Boss told John to wait a second, and he called Bobby to come to his office. He asked Bobby to go and find anyone seling watermelon in the market. Bobby went, returned and said, boss, only one person selling watermelon. $1.2 per kg, $10 for 10kg, he has inventory of 340 melons. On the table 58 melons, every melon weights about 2 kg, bought from the South two days ago, they are fresh and red, good quality.John was very impresed and realized the difference between himself and Bobby. He decided not to resign but to learn from Bobby. My dear friends, a more successful person is more observant, thinks more and explores in depth. Chances exists in the daily details. For the same matter, a more successful person sees more and farther so that he can find out an opportunity and catch it to realize his aim. If a person sees one year ahead, while another sees only tomorrow. The difference between a year and a day is 365times, how could you win?英语短篇美文篇5Outside the Bible, these six words are the most famousin all the literature of the world. They were spokenby Hamlet when he was thinking aloud, and they are themost famous words inShakespeare because Hamlet wasspeaking not only for himself but also for everythinking man and woman. To be or not to be, to live ornot to live, to live richly and abundantly andeagerly, or to live dully and meanly and scarcely. Aphilosopher once wanted to know whether he was aliveor not, which is a good question for everyone to putto himself occasionally. He answered it by saying: "I think, therefore am." But the best definition of existence ever saw did another philosopher who said: "To be is to bein relations." If this true, then the more relations a living thing has, the more it is alive. Tolive abundantly means simply to increase the range and intensity of our relations.Unfortunately we are so constituted that we get to love our routine. But apart from our regularoccupation how much are we alive? If you are interest-ed only in your regular occupation, youare alive only to that extent. So far as other things are concerned--poetry and prose, music, pictures, sports, unselfish friendships, politics, international affairs--you are dead.Contrariwise, it is true that every time you acquire a new interest--even more, a newaccomplishment--you increase your power of life. No one who is deeply interested in a largevariety of subjects can remain unhappy; the real pessimist is the person who has lostinterest.Bacon said that a man dies as often as he loses a friend. But we gain new life by contacts, newfriends. What is supremely true of living objects is only less true of ideas, which are alsoalive. Where your thoughts are, there will your live be also. If your thoughts are confined onlyto your business, only to your physical welfare, only to the narrow circle of the town in whichyou live, then you live in a narrow cir-conscribed life. But if you are interested in what isgoing on in China, then you are living inChina~ if you’re interested in the characters of agood novel, then you are living with those highly interesting people, if you listen intently tofine music, you are away from your immediate surroundings and living in a world of passion andimagination. To be or not to be--to live intensely and richly, merely to exist, that depends on ourselves.Let widen and intensify our relations. While we live, let live!英语短篇美文篇6You cannot change the laws of physics ... but could physics actually enable us to travel through time?It might sound crazy, but according to Einstein‘s theories, there‘s no logical reason why time travel isn‘t possible.Time travel is clearly a trickier proposition than space travel, though. And prior to Einstein, it would have been deemed utterly impossible! That‘s because the old idea about time was that it was like a cosmic metronome keeping a regular and constant beat throughout the universe. And it was thought to move in one direction only .However, what physicists now know is that time is rather more flexible than the old “ Clockwork Universe” ideas they had it. And it was Albert Einstein who set the cat among the pigeons.Einstein‘s theories about time and space were revolutiona ry. He became a celebrity--and not just in scientific circles. It‘s only since he published his theories that scientists have been able to demonstrate that space and time really behave the way he said they did.In 1971, after Einstein‘s death, two scientis ts were able to carry out a crucial experiment. They used two atomic clocks, synchronized them, and placed one on a plane, while the otherstayed in the same location on Earth. The plane then flew around the world for 80 hours. According to Einstein‘s theo ry, the clock on the plane would be expected to have lost time, due to being in motion over 80 hours compared to the clock on the ground. When they brought the clocks together and made a comparison, the clock on the plane was indeed a few nanoseconds slower than the other clock. The experiment was replicated in 1996 with advanced technology, and it was proved again--with an even bigger time difference this time. Which proves that not only is time “ warp-able” , but Einstein was arguably the greatest thinker the world has ever seen.If it were possible, however, it would present some pretty knotty paradoxes... For example, what if someone or something traveled back in time and changed the ensuing future? And have you heard the one about the time traveller who dots back and forward in time and by means of various medical technologies is able to be his own father AND mother?! And besides, if time travel is possible, where are all the people from the future--surely they‘d want to come and meet us poor stranded 21st century beings?英语短篇美文篇7Then is over; this is now. The less time and effort you put into looking at the past, the more you will have for living and experiencing this day. You will also find that letting go of the past will give you a deeper sense of strength. Instead of allowing past mistakes and worries to drain your energies, you will have a renewed energy to live your life to the fullest and enjoy it more.Being content with yourself and optimistic about your future is not difficult. Whatever is in the past is over; learn from it and move on. When you are self-motivated enough to do this, youwill see that moving ahead is the best definition of living life. With that said, what can you do now? Sure it is easy for me to tell you to forget the past, yet it is a whole different practice to actually do it. Life is a complex set of events much of which of course is real, yet a large amount is just your view of what really happened.英语短篇美文篇8That must be the story of innumerable couples, and the pattern of life it offers has a homely grace. It reminds you of a placid rivulet, meandering smoothly through green pastures and shaded by pleasant trees, till at last it falls into the vast sea; but the sea is so calm, so silent, so indifferent, that you are troubled suddenlyby a vague uneasiness.Perhaps it is only by a kink in my nature, strong in me even in those days, that i felt in such an existence, the share of the great majority, something amiss. I recognized its social value. I saw its ordered happiness, but a fever in my blood asked for a wilder course. There seemed to me something alarming in such easy delights. In my heart was desire to live more dangerously.I was not unprepared for jagged rocks and treacherous shoals if I could only have change and the excitement of unforeseen.英语短篇美文篇9The north wind whizzing in the ear, now it is winter, the memory of a snow-white winter. It was so fast in winter, in a trance, the shadow of the sunny summer was still shaking, and the golden yellow of the autumn had not yet gone.It is coming, the footsteps are so light and light that they can't hear the sound. It was white in the air and white; the flakes of snowflakes falling in the sky were white; it was white in the air. In winter, it looks like a white spirit, circling in the sky.The south is no snow, I remember last year, there was snow, snow drifting profusely and disorderly fall, we run wild in the snow snowball fight together, in the snow in front, we like a naughty child, showing their innocence. It was early in the morning, heavy fog, wind, sun signs are ready, and the warm lights cast little light, hands in his pockets, memories of the past, enjoy the warmth of the winter.英语短篇美文篇10Your negative emotions can also be controlled and directed. PMA and self-discipline can remove their harmful effects and make them serve constructive purposes. Sometimes fear and anger will inspire intense action. But you must always submit your negative emotions--and you positive ones--to the examination of your reason before releasing them. Emotion without reason is a dreadful enemy.你的消极心态同样也可被控制和导引,积极心态和自律可去除其中有害的部分,而使这些消极心态能为目标贡献力量。
英语美文【优秀9篇】短篇英语美文篇一On Friday evening last I received from His Majesty the mission to form a new administration. It was the evident will of Parliament and the nation that this should be conceived on the broadest possible basis and that it should include all parties.I have already pleted the most important part of this task. A war cabinet has been formed of five members, representing, with the Labor, Opposition and Liberals, the unity of the nation. It was necessary that this should be done in onesingle day on account of the extreme urgency and rigor of events. Other key positions were filled yesterday.I am submitting a further list to the King tonight. I hope to plete the appointment of principal Ministers during tomorrow. The appointment of other Ministers usually takes a little longer. I trust when Parliament meets againthis part of my task will be pleted and that the administration will be plete in all respects.I considered it in the public interest to suggest to the Speaker that the House should be summoned today. At the end of today's proceedings, the adjournment of the House will be proposed until May 2l with provisionfor earlier meeting if need be. Business for that will be notified to M. P. 's at the earliest opportunity.I now invite the House by a resolution to record its approval of the steps taken and declare its confidence in the new government. The resolution:"That this House weles the formation of a government representing the united and inflexible resolve of the nation to prosecute the war with Germany to a victorious conclusion."To form an administration of this scale and plexity is a serious undertaking in itself. But we are in the preliminary Phase of one of the greatest battles in history. We are in action at any other points-in Norway and in Holland-and we have to be prepared in the Mediterranean. The air battle is continuing, and many preparations have to be made here at home.In this crisis I think I may be pardoned if I do not address the House at any length today, and I hope that any of my friends and colleagues or for mer colleagues who are affected by the political reconstruction will make all allowances for any lack of ceremony with which it has been necessary to act.I say to the House as I said to Ministers who have joined this government, I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat. We have before us an ordeal of the most grievous kind. We have before us many, many months of struggle and suffering. You ask, what is our policy? I say it is to wage war by land, sea and air. War with all our might and with all the strength God has given us, and to wage war against a monstrous tyranny never surpassed in the dark and lamentable catalogue of human crime. That is our policy. You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word, It is victory. Victory at all costs-victory in spite of all terrors-victory, however long and hard the road may be, for without victory there is no survival.Let that be realized. No survival for the British Empire, no survival for all that the British Empire has stood for, no survival for the urge, the impulse of the ages, that mankind shall move forward toward his goal.I take up my task in buoyancy and hope. I feel sure that our cause will not be suffered to fail among men.I feel entitled at this juncture, at this time, to claim the aid of all and to say, "Come then, let us go forward together with our united strength."英文励志小短文篇二Friendship is a diamond buried in the earth; a treasure of great worth. But first it must be mined then faceted and shined. It takes pick and shovel and strain, enpassing time and enduring pain, until its grace is seen; a glittering gift of love that's shared between we three: First God, and you, then me.友情是钻石友情是一枚埋在泥土里的钻石;是一笔巨额的财富。

Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity, of the appetite for adventure over the love of ease. This often exists in a man of 60 more than a boy of 20. Nobody grows old merely by a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals. Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul. Worry, fear, self-distrust bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust. Whether 60 or 16, there is in every human being’s heart the lure of wonders, the unfailing appetite for what’s next and the joy of the game of living. In the center of your heart and my heart, there is a wireless station; so long as it receives messages of beauty, hope, courage and power from man and from the infinite, so long as you are young. When your aerials are down, and your spirit is covered with snows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism, then you’ve grown old, even at 20; but as long as your aerials are up, to catch waves of optimism, there’s hope you may die young at 80. 短篇英语美⽂篇2 It is not difficult to imagine a world short of ambition. It would probably be a kinder world: with out demands, without abrasions, without disappointments. People would have time for reflection. Such work as they did would not be for themselves but for the collectivity. Competition would never enter in. conflict would be eliminated, tension become a thing of the past. The stress of creation would be at an end. Art would no longer be troubling, but purely celebratory in its functions. Longevity would be increased, for fewer people would die of heart attack or stroke caused by tumultuous endeavor. Anxiety would be extinct. Time would stretch on and on, with ambition long departed from the human heart. Ah, how unrelieved boring life would be! There is a strong view that holds that success is a myth, and ambition therefore a sham. Does this mean that success does not really exist? That achievement is at bottom empty? That the efforts of men and women are of no significance alongside the force of movements and events now not all success, obviously, is worth esteeming, nor all ambition worth cultivating. Which are and which are not is something one soon enough learns on one’s own. But even the most cynical secretly admit that success exists; that achievement counts for a great deal; and that the true myth is that the actions of men and women are useless. To believe otherwise is to take on a point of view that is likely to be deranging. It is, in its implications, to remove all motives for competence, interest in attainment, and regard for posterity. We don't choose to be born. We don't choose our parents. We do not choose our historical epoch, the country of our birth, or the immediate circumstances of our upbringing. We do not, most of us, choose to die; nor do we choose the time or conditions of our death. But within all this realm of choicelessness, we do choose how we shall live: courageously or in cowardice, honorably or dishonorably, with purpose or in drift. We decide what is important and what is trivial in life. We decide that what makes us significant is either what we do or what we refuse to do. But no matter how indifferent the universe may be to our choices and decisions, these choices and decisions are ours to make. We decide. We choose. And as we decide and choose, so are our lives formed. In the end, forming our own destiny is what ambition is about. 短篇英语美⽂篇3 Outside the Bible, these six words are the most famousin all the literature of the world. We can take the mysterious, hazy future and carve out of it anything that we can imagine, just as a sculptor carves a statue from a shapeless stone. We are all in the position of the farmer. If we plant a good seed, we reap a good harvest. If our seed is poor and full of weeds, we reap a useless crop. If we plant nothing at all, we harvest nothing at all. I want the future to be better than the past. I don’t want it contaminated by the mistakes and errors with which history is filled. We should all be concerned about the future because that is where we will spend the remainder of our lives. The past is gone and static. Nothing we can do will change it. The future is before us and dynamic. Everything we do will affect it. Each day brings with it new frontiers, in our homes and in our business, if we only recognize them. We are just at the beginning of the progress in every field of human endeavor. 短篇英语美⽂篇6 When someone looks into your eyes they should see something alive within you. Having a dream is like owning a lighthouse1 which directs you on your journey. At every turn we come across its mystery. At each new level we become more of the person we were meant to become. In lonely times, when we pass through a storm of disappointment, we find our faith is unshaken, our strength still strong. Believe in your faith. Set the vision before your eyes. Write down your most sincere dreams and when the opportunity comes, step into your dream. It may take one season or more, but the result is the same. Make big dreams and then go out and make them realities. The highest hopes of the dreamer are revealed with every step taken in their journey to the impossible. For a season we must protect the dream so that it can grow quietly on the inside. But if we tenderly care for our deepest expectations, slowly but surely the dream will become new life. Dreaming is an act of faith. The light of your expectations will cast off the shadows of a disbelieving world. God has given us the dreamer as a gift to light an unbelieving world. Find your treasure within and cherish it. Tomorrow is waiting for you to take the first step. 短篇英语美⽂篇7 One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the framer tried to figure out what to do. Finally he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway and it just wasn't worth to retrieve the donkey. So, he decided to bury it! He invited all his neighbours to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly, then slowly he quieted down till nothing more was heard. A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well, and was astonished at what he saw. With every shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing! He would shake it off and take a step up! As the farmer's neighbours continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and trotted off! Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a stepping stone. We can get out of the deepest wells by not stopping, never giving up, shaking it off, and taking a step up! Remember the five simple rules to be happy: 1. Free your heart from hatred. 2. Free your mind from worries. 3. Trust in God. 4. Give more. 5. Expect less. 短篇英语美⽂篇8 Lost time is never found again. This is something which I learned very clearly last semester. I spent so much time fooling around that my grades began to suffer. I finally realized that something had to be done. It was time for a change. Now I have a new plan for using my time wisely. I have set my alarm clock ahead half an hour. This will give me a head start on the day. I have also decided to keep a log of what I do and when I do it. Looking back on what I’ve done will give me some ideas on how to reorganize my time. 时光⼀去不复返,这是我上学期清楚学到的'教训。

He's almost like God."Hey, Daddy! Where is Helsinki?" My father always replied, "If you put things away where they belong, you would know where they are." "Hey, Daddy! I really need to know about Helsinki." "OK; let's get the encyclopedia.""Hey, Dad! Can I use the car for a date tonight?" "Yeah. Be home before midnight." Arriving home at 2:30 a.m., Dad was up waiting. We don't understand about love and anger when we're kids. Dads yell and shout, and we don't realize it is because they care; we think it is because they have to be tough. Not this time. He said, "Thank God you're safe. Go to bed; we'll talk about this in the morning.""Hey, Dad! I got into trouble at school today. I didn't really do anything wrong. That stupid teacher won't listen to me." "I'lllisten. What happened?....Is that really what happened?" Next day, Dad is at my school, talking with my teacher, fixing the misunderstanding. He has such power! I can always count on Dad.When Daddy starts to get old (about the same time as I am 13 years old), he gets really stupid, but he is still in charge of the world. "Hey, Daddy! What's this with boys? Do you know why they are so weird? Were you like this when you were a boy?" Dad pontificates for awhile on the nature of the teen-age human animal and I sort of get the hint that even though he is old (35), he knows about both boys and girls. Some dads even know about such matters as safe sex and child support.Regardless of what they know (or don't know), they mostly care, and can be counted on to be on your side. When you're a kid, Dads are good for playing basketball in the driveway;Daddies are good audiences for dance recitals. If we get our foot caught in a bear trap, Dad will free the foot, bind it, and take us to the doctor. Dad doesn't panic; he, being Dad, just automatically knows what to do, and does it.He buries our non-human family members; he fixes the things we break. The small things Dad does for us make us feel valuable and important.Daddy lectures and pontificates; he is the ultimate authority on everything. He is so totally boring - I hope he doesn't act like such a jerk in front of my friends. If he talks too much, they also will know how stupid he is. Of course, even though he is (during some periods of my life) an utterly stupid nerd, he is not fair game for criticism from others. He is still the best dad there is..."Hey, Dad! How are you going to vote?" "Not me. I think he's a crook." So argument ensues...Dad is still stupid, but getting a little smarter, and we can listen to him without acknowledginghis wisdom."Hey, Daddy! Wanna hold the baby for awhile?" Daddy assures his "princess" that her baby is truly a marvel, and "Princess" feels warm and reassured."Hey,Dad!Do you have fifty bucks I could borrow?"He does.Even if he doesn't,he will find it or go without something so he will have it.Then he feels embarrassed when we pay him back, and he says,"Naw;you don't have to pay it,"but we do because it is important to do the right thing. Dad taught us that.Whether Dad is a brain surgeon or a gandy dancer, Dad is always there for us. The back-up unit in case of temporary failure. Even when Dad is 80 and maybe forgets sometimes or maybe has little "accidents," he is still in charge of my world. Even when Daddy needs for us to take care of him, he is still Daddy who knows all and who can do everything.Whether Dad is a rocket scientist or a janitor, he sweat bullets to take care of us, to teach us what is right, and to make sure we had some fun. Dad taught us the true meaning of respect and how to earn it. No matter what career choice we make, Dad will be proud of us. He will do his best to make sure we have the education and/or training we need in order to be able to take care of ourselves and our burgeoning families.Eventually, Dad goes on, as all living creatures do. It is a loss that is unutterably cruel. It is frightening to envision life without Dad. Even Dads need Dads. The fact that one is 50 or so years old does nothing to diminish the need for Dad.We can recall sitting in the bleachers at the ball game with Dad - a bonding thing that gruffly says "I love you." Upon achieving majority, we could even have a beer with Dad. We can recall being walloped by Dad and know that it was an act of love.We cherish the time spent with Dad while he taught us the necessary maintenance tasks associated with car ownership. We still capture the feeling that came over us when we saw Dad's face out there in the audience, and he was proud, and he and Mom knew they had created something very special when they made us.Dad presides over all festive events. "How is today different from other days?" Of course he knows, and knows how to explain; it is he who takes charge and knows how to do everything;he is the leader, and he is in charge of our world. The Captain of the ocean sea.Father's Day is kind of an embarrassment to Dad - he is accustomed to being the provider;not the recipient. We honor Dad for being in charge of the world, but Dad somehow is a bit diffident about being the honoree on Father's Day.Dads don't really leave us when they go.Their spirits inhabit our psyche, and stay with us always.Fortunately, the parting is usually gradual, and sometimes, as when they need our care,we have an opportunity to show our gratitude and our love directly to him.Being aware that it will happen"some day"does not really anesthetize us against the actuality of the event.Emotions cannot be intellectualized, and pain is pain. It is okay to feel pain - to hurt. It is okay to heal, which we always do. It is also okay to become the Dad who knows everything, can do everything, and who is in charge of the world.必读的简单英文美文篇二Being in LoveLove starts as an attraction to another. Enthusiasm will take you further than any amount of experience."How right they were. Enthusiastic people can turn a boring drive into an adventure, extra work into opportunity and strangers into friends.多年前,当我第一次找工作时,不少明智之士强烈向我建议:“巴巴拉,要有热情!热情比任何经验都更有益。
”这话多么正确,热情的人可以把沉闷的车程变成探险,把加班变成机会,把生人变成朋友。
"Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm," wrote Ralph Waldo Emerson. It is the paste that helps you hang in there when the going gets tough. It is the inner voice that whispers, "I can do it!" when others shout, "No, you can't."“没有热情就不会有任何伟大的成就,” 拉尔夫-沃尔多-爱默生写道当事情进展不顺时,热情是帮助你坚持下去的粘合剂当别人叫喊“你不行”时,热情是你内心发出的声音:“我能行”。
It took years and years for the early work of Barbara McClintock, a geneticist who won the 1983 Nobel Prize in medicine, to be generally accepted. Yet she didn't let up on her experiments. 英语长篇美⽂摘抄篇1 "Today, you see that I am still in this company, which is because I once met a wise man, who told me a workplace truth at my most hesitant time, in the workplace, I want to turn myself into water and be put into any container. This is a friend of mine, A Qiang, who works in a famous company. He has a masters degree and his talent in mold design ability. But he cant get the promotion and reuse of the company leader. Because he is only focused on technology and does not take time to engage in relationships. Finally, in charge of the intolerable supervisor when could not play fast and loose, Jiagongjisi, he decided to resign. When he submitted his letter of resignation, he met a manager of a neighbouring department at the staircase, because there were only a few sides with him. The two people smiled and greeted each other. The manager saw a strong hand on the letter of resignation, a look of surprise, he said: "if you have another job, congratulations to you. If you are in charge of your department, you have to think about it: you must learn how to get along with different people, otherwise you will always meet such a person, and then lose your mind. This is not too familiar with the managers words, all of a sudden when it comes to the tip. A lot of people in the workplace angrily stumbled does not understand the problem, the original only in this short a few words. John was shocked. After that, he ripped the letter back to the post, practicing how to get along with hate charge, although he still does not agree with some things against his principles, but he began to seriously, try to look on the bright side of things, and thus also changed from confrontation between supervisor and. A year later, because of a strong business is outstanding, company to set up a branch, and served as a responsible person. He often meet that he learned from a few words of the manager, the manager still has a cool look. Although a strong never asked him to say thank you, but he will always remember the day when I met, the wise man in the staircase, a few words of light, open a frozen and full of corners of the original stone heart. 英语长篇美⽂摘抄篇2 We should learn to thank others for laziness, because it is their laziness that enables us to have more opportunities to do things, and set up the stage for us to show their talents and the way to success. I graduated from college to be a clerk in an office of a group company. The director of the office has a special skill, that is, the article is well written and thoughtful. The chairman of the board attached much importance to him. The chairmans speech and the year-end summary of the company were all written by him. I got to the office, only a handyman, dirty, dirty work, did not name the live all I do. After I arrived, the director became more and more lazy, and some of the work that he had to do by himself was often pushed to me. Because of the great reputation of the enterprises, enterprises often have to participate in such activities as long run, mountaineering and performance organized by provinces and cities, and should be interviewed and photographed on the spot. For a long time and not working overtime, the director arranged for me to go. Company meetings often make use of their spare time in the evening, and the chairman of the meeting often forgets the time and goes to the early hours of the morning. And the meeting needs to be recorded and recorded. The director always lets me go so hard. As a result, I have a lot of night time to attend the meeting, second days to sort out the records, write reports, a lot of work. Some of our new students together, often scolded those old comrades, how lazy and Diao, exploitation of our work, take our time, the wisdom and the fruits of our labor for himself, so indignant, but some people still do. A reporter from a provincial television station to interview the chairman of the chairman, the chairman of the time is relatively tight, so arranged at 8 oclock on Sunday evening. The chairman is accompanied by the director. But the directors home is far away from the company. It takes 40 minutes to ride a bike. So he asked me to accompany him. I heard on the air, usually at night to work overtime, I have full stomach, Sunday also let me, too that. And whats more, the chairman of the board is for him to attend, and I have an appointment with my girlfriend. I wanted to top him, but later I was reluctant to take part in it. In the interview with TV reporters on that day, chairman of the board was in good spirits, and there were several sparks. That is, the development of the enterprise has been ten years now. It needs ten years to go to zero for second times, and is ready to make a big move in 10th anniversary Daqing. The interview was only half an hour, but as the chairman and the reporters talked very much about them, they talked for more than two hours and then went to tea together. When everything is over, its one oclock in the morning. When the reporter sent, I have been very tired, not wash sleep. On the second day, I arranged the interview summary and gave it to the chairman. Then write a business newspaper published the article, the title of the article is "ten years of zero is from" -Chairman issued second entrepreneurial mobilization. The chairman felt that I was very keen to capture his inspiration, and the emphasis of the article was new and the theme was novel. The chairman was very happy. By the way, why didnt the director come last night. I said, "his home is far away." The chairman then said, "to thank the lazy people around you, to create more opportunities for yourself!" Since then, the chairman has often asked me to go to the office, and some of his thoughts and feelings have made me clear. The final report of the end of the year is also let me write. My salary doubled. I became the red man of the company, and I got more and more exercise. Most of the time, there are a lot of people dont want to do extra work in front of us, we are often not actively accept and try to do a good job, but the fear of difficulty, managed to escape, always indulge in complain and complain, in a negative, pessimistic attitude or passive waiting, watching. If you have more work to do from another point of view, it should be a very lucky thing. Because, by doing more work, you can improve your ability, increase the experience of the world, and improve the quality of your work. So, when the extra work comes in front of us, we should cherish this rare opportunity, hold it tightly, and dont let it slip away in vain. The pie in the sky, there is always a reason for it to fall out of thin air. Therefore, we must learn to thank others for laziness, because it is their laziness that enables us to have more opportunities to do things, and set up the stage for us to show their talents and the way to success. 英语长篇美⽂摘抄篇3 My father was a self-taught mandolin player. He was one of the best string instrument players in our town. He could not read music, but if he heard a tune a few times, he could play it. When he was younger, he was a member of a small country music band. They would play at local dances and on a few occasions would play for the local radio station. He often told us how he had auditioned and earned a position in a band that featured Patsy Cline as their lead singer. He told the family that after he was hired he never went back. Dad was a very religious man. He stated that there was a lot of drinking and cursing the day of his audition and he did not want to be around that type of environment. Occasionally, Dad would get out his mandolin and play for the family. We three children: Trisha, Monte and I, George Jr., would often sing along. Songs such as the Tennessee Waltz, Harbor Lights and around Christmas time, the well-known rendition of Silver Bells. "Silver Bells, Silver Bells, its Christmas time in the city" would ring throughout the house. One of Dads favorite hymns was "The Old Rugged Cross". We learned the words to the hymn when we were very young, and would sing it with Dad when he would play and sing. Another song that was often shared in our house was a song that accompanied the Walt Disney series: Davey Crockett. Dad only had to hear the song twice before he learned it well enough to play it. "Davey, Davey Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier" was a favorite song for the family. He knew we enjoyed the song and the program and would often get out the mandolin after the program was over. I could never get over how he could play the songs so well after only hearing them a few times. I loved to sing, but I never learned how to play the mandolin. This is something I regret to this day. Dad loved to play the mandolin for his family he knew we enjoyed singing, and hearing him play. He was like that. If he could give pleasure to others, he would, especially his family. He was always there, sacrificing his time and efforts to see that his family had enough in their life. I had to mature into a man and have children of my own before I realized how much he had sacrificed. I joined the United States Air Force in January of 1962. Whenever I would come home on leave, I would ask Dad to play the mandolin. Nobody played the mandolin like my father. He could touch your soul with the tones that came out of that old mandolin. He seemed to shine when he was playing. You could see his pride in his ability to play so well for his family. When Dad was younger, he worked for his father on the farm. His father was a farmer and sharecropped a farm for the man who owned the property. In 1950, our family moved from the farm. Dad had gained employment at the local limestone quarry. When the quarry closed in August of 1957, he had to seek other employment. He worked for Owens Yacht Company in Dundalk, Maryland and for Todd Steel in Point of Rocks, Maryland. While working at Todd Steel, he was involved in an accident. His job was to roll angle iron onto a conveyor so that the welders farther up the production line would have it to complete their job. On this particular day Dad got the third index finger of his left hand mashed between two pieces of steel. The doctor who operated on the finger could not save it, and Dad ended up having the tip of the finger amputated. He didnt lose enough of the finger where it would stop him picking up anything, but it did impact his ability to play the mandolin. After the accident, Dad was reluctant to play the mandolin. He felt that he could not play as well as he had before the accident. When I came home on leave and asked him to play he would make excuses for why he couldnt play. Eventually, we would wear him down and he would say "Okay, but remember, I cant hold down on the strings the way I used to" or "Since the accident to this finger I cant play as good". For the family it didnt make any difference that Dad couldnt play as well. We were just glad that he would play. When he played the old mandolin it would carry us back to a cheerful, happier time in our lives. "Davey, Davey Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier", would again be heard in the little town of Bakerton, West Virginia. In August of 1993 my father was diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer. He chose not to receive chemotherapy treatments so that he could live out the rest of his life in dignity. About a week before his death, we asked Dad if he would play the mandolin for us. He made excuses but said "okay". He knew it would probably be the last time he would play for us. He tuned up the old mandolin and played a few notes. When I looked around, there was not a dry eye in the family. We saw before us a quiet humble man with an inner strength that comes from knowing God, and living with him in ones life. Dad would never play the mandolin for us again. We felt at the time that he wouldnt have enough strength to play, and that makes the memory of that day even stronger. Dad was doing something he had done all his life, giving. As sick as he was, he was still pleasing others. Dad sure could play that Mandolin! 我⽗亲是个⾃学成才的曼陀林琴⼿,他是我们镇最优秀的弦乐演奏者之⼀。
