西部片：
以开拓时期的美国西部为故事背景的影片。美国早期电影盛行的电影样式。多描写19世纪白人向西部拓展疆土，掠夺和屠杀印底安人以及当时各种势力之间的斗争，颂扬拓荒精神。20年代的西部片故事情节单调，宣扬善恶因果报应，常见的内容为美人遇难，英雄相救，大打出手，有情人终成眷属等。影片主任公都是富于正义感的戴宽沿帽，穿花衬衫牛仔裤，腰插双枪的牛仔。第一次大战后，由詹姆斯.克鲁兹（James Cruzw,1884---1942）导演的《篷车》和约翰.福特（John Ford,1895---1973）导演的《关山飞渡》等影片问世，把西部片的思想内容和艺术特色提高到新的水平。但多数西部片仍是迎合观众口味的粗糙之作。后来意大利也摄制一种类似的西部片，因意大利人喜食通心面条，故被称为面条西部片。
