【要点解析】

1. When I first arrived on this island, I had nothing.当我第一次登上这个岛时，我什么也没有。

arrive意为到达，是不及物动词，后面不能直接跟宾语。通常与in或at连用。在此，“arrive on”有 “到达并登上”的含义，表示到达并登上地势相对较高的地方，如乘船登上岛屿，海岸等。
