I. Learning aims
(1) During this lesson, students will learn some basic knowledge of the ancient and modern
Olympic Games.
(2) They will be able to master the new words and sentences in this passage.
II. Teaching aims
(1) Encourage the students to know something about the history of Olympic Games. Compare
the ancient and modern ones.
(2) Through reading, the students learn to grasp the detailed information of the text; their
reading skills can be improved.

1 Unit 2 The Olympic Games
一、 教学对象分析
本校学生英语水平整体较高,可是学生个性和知识水平差异大。奥运会这个话题并不陌生,但学生对古代奥运会和现代奥运会的异同点并不是很清楚。这篇文章以采访的形式向学生讲述这些知识,教师设计了一些课堂活动,以帮助学生获取信息,进一步激发学生的兴趣,提高课堂的积极性,逐步实现各项教学目标。
二、 教材内容分析
本案例是人教版《普通高中课程标准试验教科书·英语(必修)2》,第二单元阅读部分,本篇课文的标题是An Interview。课文是一个虚拟的采访——两千多年前古希腊作家帕萨尼亚斯与一位北京奥运会志愿者李艳的对话,向学生介绍了古代和现代奥运会的异同以现代奥运会的一些基本情况。随着问题的逐步展开,学生对奥运会的了解也越来越全面。文章的这种设计给学生创设了语言情境,把描述竞技体育这一话题的语言内容变成了生动有趣的对话,让学生有一种身临其境的真实感受。
三、 教学目标
(1)帮助学生掌握重点单词和短语的用法,如 ancient, volunteer, regular, take part
in, every four years, be admitted as 等。 进一步帮助学生理解课文中的难句。
(2)帮助学生在阅读的过程中,运用略读,寻读,细读的阅读技巧,提高学生用英语获取信息,处理信息,分析和解决信息的能力。
(3)通过阅读使学生熟悉奥运会,能用英语就奥运会的知识进行互问互答,并能阐述古代奥运会和现代奥运会的异同及现代奥运会的一些情况。
四、 教学过程

教师通过播放北京申奥成功的视频,引出奥运会的话题。

Ⅰ.阅读理解
The Olympic Games are held every four years in a different city in the world. Athletes from
different countries compete in a variety of sports which are divided into winter and summer games.
The Olympics began in Greece more than 2,700 years ago. The first recorded Olympic competition
was held in 776 B. C. It was held in an outdoor stadium and about forty thousand people watched
the event. The first thirteen Olympics consisted of only one race running. The games had been
held regularly for about 1, 200 years. Then, in the year 397 the Olympics were prohibited by
the Roman Emperor.
It was not until 1896 that the first Olympics of modern times were held in Athens. From then
on the games are held every four years regularly. The Olympics have become the world's most
