Context:This is the first in a series of 2 workshops, (the second workshop to be held inNovember 1998), which will work through systems-based methodologies (e.g.,components of Adaptive Environmental Assessment and Management (AEAM)) todevelop, compare and evaluate management scenarios for rehabilitation andmaintenance of the Cooum river, Chennai.
The first workshop will see discussion focused on issues such as management goalsfor the Cooum river and environs, spatial and temporal scope of the problemsituation, key actors, indicator variables, desirable and feasible managementinterventions in the system and the development of a framework for a dynamicsimulation model and geographic information system database. In the secondworkshop, the participants will employ the simulation model to perform scenarioanalyses and develop, compare and evaluate possible management scenarios forfuture management of the Cooum river and environs over various time horizons.
