5B Unit 8 At the weekendsGood afternoon my dear judges. It’s my pleasure to be here. Today the content of my lesson is a story called ... At first, let me talk about the teaching material. The type of lesson is story reading. The lesson focus is understanding the whole story. The difficulty area is...The story is close to Ss’ life so they will be interested in it.Background on the reformation of the curriculum, it can connect the life and act; emphasize Ss’ interest and experience. Ss in primary school are curious, active and imaginative. Ss of Grade 5 have accumulated a certain amount of vocabulary, listening and speaking skills and they are more confident.According to the content and the fact of the Ss, I established three teaching aims▲First knowledge aimSs will have a good understanding of the whole story, they can locate the specific information of the story by scanning.▲Second ability aimSs can learn to study the new words in a context and they can act out the story with proper help.▲Third emotion aimSs are expected to keep persistent interest and self-confidence in learning English. They can know how to enjoy their life.In order to achieve such aims and sticking out the difficulty area, I will use Situational Language Teaching. Also, I will use CAI, a song anda project to make my class more vivid.In terms of the teaching procedures, I’ll finish this lesson in4 steps.Step 1: Pre-readingI’m going to spend 5 minutes on it. There are 3 activities in this part. First of all, there is a song called <...> like this. “...... ” Then I’ll talk about the song with Ss. After that I’ll show the picture of the story and let Ss make a prediction of the whole story. Whatever their prediction is right or wrong; their mind will get close to the theme of the story they are going to learn. So step one can help me set a scene, relax the class atmosphere and lead to the topic as well.Step 2: While-readingI am going to spend 25 minutes on it. In this step, there are 4 activities.Activity 1: Read and underlineI’ll let Ss read the story by scanning. I will give them a question:... They need to underline the right answer. This can help Ss have a general idea of the whole story.Activity 2: Read and matchI’ll let Ss read the story intensively by themselves. They need to match the characters with the things they do at weekends. Meanwhile, they can circle the difficult words and sentences they don’t understand. They can discuss with their partners. This can train their self-read ability and spirit of cooperation.Activity 3: Read and judgeSs need to read the story intensively one more time and do a true orfalse judgment about the three questions: 1....2.....3.....This can help Ss have a good understanding of the whole story and make clear of the context.Activity 4: Listen and repeatSs need to read the whole story after me. This can help them correct their pronunciation and intonation.So step 2 is to use different activities to present and practice and help develop the correct strategies as well.Step 3: Post-readingI’m going to spend 10 minutes on it. During this period, I’ll create two activities.Activity 1: Think and completeI’ll blank some key information of the story and let Ss fill in the blanks. This can help them review the content of the story.Activity 2: Act outSs need to act the story in different roles with proper help. This can help them understand the whole story more deeply,also,they like performing.At last, let me talk about the homework. It can be divided into two parts.The compulsory homework and the optional one.The compulsory homework is Practice reading the text until reading it fluently and act it in groups. The optional homework is make up a new story. This homework gives Ss experience learning through practice in daily life.
