山西省大同市2024-2025学年高二上学期10月联考英语试题一、阅读理解Arches(拱门)National ParkWhy Go to Arches National ParkA trip to Arches National Park is like visiting another planet with thousands of natural sandstone arches, red rocks and amazing landscapes, as well as light that seems to change all the time. However, the visitor center is open daily. What to EatThere are no restaurants or hotels in Arches National Park, so you need to bring your own food or plan to eat in neighboring Moab, Utah, about 5 miles from the park entrance. There are several picnic areas in the park, so plan ahead if you want to eat with Arches as the background.Getting Around Arches National ParkThe best way to get around Arches National Park is by car. Regular leisure-time physical activity was also associated with lower possibilities of school burnout (倦怠). The findings were published in the European Journal of Public Health. The relationship of physical activity and academic achievement is complex. However, previous studies have found that especially school-based physical activity, such as physical education, can improve classroom performance — particularly in mathematics. Despite this, few studies have examined the association between active school transport and educational outcomes. In the recently published study of over 34, 000 teenagers, researchers observed that active school transport was associated with higher chances of high perceived academic performance and self-reported competence in academic skills. Being physically active before school could, for example, enhance concentration in class. The association was even stronger for leisure-time physical activity. Similar to previous studies, the relationship between leisure-time physical activity and mathematical skills stood out.Leisure-time physical activity was also inversely associated (负相关的) with school burnout. As little as 30 minutes of weekly activity was associated with 24% lower possibilities ofschool burnout. Teenagers who engaged in leisure-time physical activity for 4 to 6 hours a week had 46% lower possibilities of school burnout compared to their physically inactive peers. Both leisure-time physical activity and active school transport were also positivelyassociated with school enjoyment.“To the best of my knowledge, this was the first large-scale study to examine the association between physical activity and school burnout among teenagers. Leisure-time physical activity can be an effective way to disconnect from schoolwork and the potential stress related to it. If schools can increase the amount of leisure-time physical activity among youth, both learning and wellbeing benefits can be significant,” said Juuso Jussila, a Doctoral Researcher at the University of Eastern Finland.8.Which aspect of the study does paragraph 1 focus on?A.Its purpose.B.Its subjects.C.Its result.D.Its process. 9.According to the text, the relationship between workout and academic performance is________.A.complex B.clear C.meaningless D.simple10.How may a student cycling to school perform?A.Feel tired in class.B.Pay more attention in class.C.Be afraid of learning mathematics.D.Be eager to do physical activity. 11.What’s Jussila’s suggestion for schools?A.Asking students to respect teachers.B.Teaching students how to be happy.C.Focusing on improving students’ scores.D.Increasing students’ time for physical activity.Humans have a positive view of nature. But is this due to an approach we have learned while growing up, or is it something we are born with? The answer is “Both”, according to researchers at the University of Gothenburg and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. Our love of nature is highly individual and should influence how we plan our cities, say the researchers. It is well known that nature has a positive effect on people. In cities in particular, studies have shown that trees and other greenery contribute to people’s wellbeing. However, experts do not agree on the reasons behind this phenomenon.Researchers from the University of Gothenburg and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences have reviewed several studies within this field that examine both innate factors and what individuals experience during their lives, primarily as children. In a Japanese study, subjects were asked to walk in a forest and in a city while their heartbeat was measured. This showed that positive emotions increased in 65% of people while they are walking in a forest. Thus, far from everyone had a positive view of nature.Another environmental psychology study found that research subjects are unconsciously (无意识地) drawn to nature instead of cities, and that this attraction was strengthened in those whose childhood was rich in nature. An additional study on identical and non-identical twins showed that a genetic (遗传的) component influences an individual’s positive or negative relationship with nature. But the study also highlighted the importance of environment in terms of attitudes towards nature. Moreover, nature can mean completely different things to different people. Some enjoy parks with lawns and planted trees, while others prefer being in the wilderness. The researchers believe that this variation is also determined by both genetics and environment.“So it’s important that we don’t standardise nature when planning greenery in our towns and cities,” adds Marcus Hedblom, a researcher at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and co-author of the article. “We shouldn’t replace wild greenery with a park and assume that it will be good for everyone.”12.How did the author introduce the topic?A.By bringing up an argument.B.By listing a series of facts.C.By referring to different opinions.D.By asking and answering questions. 13.What does the underlined word “innate” in paragraph 3 mean?A.Social.B.Inborn.C.Extra.D.Unique. 14.What did the Japanese study indicate?A.People had a negative experience in nature.B.People were unconsciously drawn to nature.C.All people didn’t respond to nature positively.D.The feeling toward nature was related to childhood.15.What is a suitable title for the text?A.Why Do We Love Nature?B.How Do People Feel in Nature?C.What Makes Nature So Powerful?D.Why Is Nature Important to Humans?Benefits of Sports Camps in SummerWhen you sign up for sports camps for your children, you may have the intention of helping them improve their skills. attach it to the wall of her kitchen. She picks big sentences that puzzle me.But I prefer copying favorite bright lines into a journal in soft, gray No.2pencil word by word. She doesn't know any of don't say could fill up rooms.Fights with my father.Small failures in school.Anything that really upsets us.My mother has never told me“I love you,Lisa.”—as if the four word absence explains who I am—so I carry it with me,like a label on me.The last time she almost spoke the words was two years ago, when she called to tell me a friend had been in hospital.I said,“I love you,Mom.”She stopped for a while and then said,“Thank you.”I haven't said it since, but I’ve wondered why my mother doesn’t until I've found a poem that supplies words for the blank spaces I try to understand in our conversations:Don’t fill upon bread.I say absent-mindedly.The servings here are huge.My son, middle aged, says:Did you really just say that to me?What he doesn’t know is that when we're walking together I desire to reach for his hand. It’s humble, yet heartbreaking,After copying it down in my journal,I emailed it to mom, adding“This poem makes me think of you”My mother doesn’t read poetry—or at love.D.She needed an interpretation from mom.7.What does the poem mean to mom?A.A memory of golden days.B.Daughter's gratefulness to her.C.A decoration in the plain kitchen.D.Daughter's understanding of her.CAmong my friends, one topic seems to dominate our conversations:bones. It makes sense, given that20percent of American women over50have osteoporosis(骨质疏松)and that more than half have bone loss. For men,the figures are lower:4percent and a third.Worldwide, one out of three women over50and one out of five older men will develop a fracture(骨折).Another reason for the endless argument about bone problems is mass confusion over how best to strengthen your bones and whether diet really makes a difference.Diet research is always messy, and study results on nutrition and bone health haven't been consistent. But gradually some clarity is emerging. As we draw up resolutions for what to eat,it's useful to look at new data on vitamin D.Calcium is the key clement for building bones, and.vitamin D helps to absorb calcium from the food we cat,so doctors often recommend D supplements(补充剂)to make up forage-related bone loss. But a recent study found that taking D supplements for five years did not reduce the rate of fractures in seniors. That result built on earlier findings, led by the same team, that these supplements do not improve bone density(密度).“Food and sun exposure likely provide enough vitamin D for healthy adults,”says Meryl LeBoff, whole d the study. What does help maintain strong bones for all of us?The easy answer is food high in calcium, such as milk and tofu.Getting it from food is best,LeBoff says,“because there are so many other nutrients(营养物质),and you have a more continuous absorption than with D supplements.”The other key element of bone health involves calories out rather than calories in.Weight-bearing exercise stimulates bone formation throughout life.So while focusing on better nutritional choices, add more exercise to your daily menu.8.What do the statistics in paragraph1emphasize?A.The concern about senior citizens.B.The seriousness of bone problems.C.The confusion about strengthening bones.D.The importance of having a balanced diet.9.What does the underlined sentence in paragraph2imply?A.Diet research is no longer a challenge.B.We've made resolutions to study diets.C.Findings on bone health prove to be similar.D.We begin to agree on ways to keep bones healthy.10.What can be inferred from the recent study?A.People can absorb vitamin Din food easily.B.The findings go against LeBoffs earlier ones.C.D supplements playa minor role than expected.D.Fractures are linked with weight-bearing exercise.11.What is a suitable title for the text?A.The magic of D supplementsB.Your bones cry!C.A recipe for better bonesD.Vitamin D wins!DIn conversations with strangers, people commonly tend to think they should speak less than half the conversation time to be likable. But we've discovered this idea is wrong. Our data shows that people tend to think they should speak about45%of the time to be likable in a one-on-one conversation with someone new. However,it appears speaking up a bit more is actually a better strategy. In our research,we randomly assigned people to speak for30%,40%,50%,60%of the time in a conversation with someone new.We found that the more they spoke, the more they were liked by their new partners. This was only one study with116participants,but the outcome is supported by other researchers'findings. For example,a previous study randomly assigned one in a pair to take on the role of“speaker”and the other to take on the role of“listener.”After engaging in12-minute interactions, listeners liked speakers more than speakers liked listeners because listeners felt more similar to speakers than speakers did to listeners. This outcome suggests the reason people prefer those who speak up:Learning more about a new partner can make you feel like you have more in common with him or her.Further,we assigned people to speak for up to70%and even90%of the time. The result shows it is not an ideal strategy. Our research does not suggest people hold down a conversational partner but rather that they feel comfortable speaking up more than they usually might.Research like our scan help people gain a‘more reasonable understanding of social interactions with new people and become more confident about how to make a good first impression. It has the obvious benefit of allowing us to carefully control speaking time. However,it does not reflect more natural conversations.Future research should figure out whether our findings generalize to more natural interactions.12.What is the common belief concerning conversations with strangers?A.Speaking a little less is preferred.B.Speaking half the time is the best.C.Listeners are more likable than speakers.D.Listeners fail to control the conversations.13.How was the research carried out?A.By making comparisons.B.By analyzing speaking habits.C.By listing examples.D.By collecting data.14.What is the disadvantage of the research?A.The conversation time is limited.B.Further study is hard to continue.C.Interactions with strangers are missing.D.The findings are less widely app liable.15.In which situation can the research finding be applied?A.Attending a family gathering.B.Partying with your friends.C.Making a public speech.D.Meeting a new teacher.

Partlybecause of her super abilities as a Paralympian swimmer—the 24-year-old is a world and European champion. But mostly it is because of her powerful back story. She was born with clubfoot(畸形足).She spent much of her childhood in a wheelchair due to 14 major surgeries before the age of 12. Alice learned to swim aged eight but it was not until October 2010 - when she could be classed as a disability swimmer—that things changed for her. She impressed scouts(星探)who persuaded her family to fund a trip to Sheffield for a competition."It literally snowballed from there," she said. "I went to my first Europeans in 2014, then the Paralympics in Rio. I ended up winning gold." As she found acceptance, Alice's self-belief rose. By 2019, she'd become a world champion and record holder in seven different swimming disciplines. I was more confident and comfortable within myself," she said.“When I stepped up to the pool, every athlete there had a disability. I was finally around people who fully understood me, which changed my mind. I started to love myself." Still, Alice would continue to find herself in extreme pain, particularly in her right leg. "I cried sometimes, With a mixture of pain and frustration. My ankle was completely non-functional. It just seemed really silly that it was still there. So, as soon as I had the first meeting with the doctors and they agreed on my operation, I saw a better future for myself."The surgery took place last year, successful. Waking up after the surgery, Alice felt she'd ended a nightmare. "As soon as I came around, I didn't have that pain anymore." she said. Previous research, however, has shown that the way we hold information in the brain changes as we get older, and so the York team looked at whether the impacts of particular types of mental stimulation, such as gaming, also had changed effects depending on age.Dr. Fiona, from the University of York's Department of Psychology, said: "A lot of research has focused on action games, as it is thought that reacting quickly, keeping track of targets and so on helps attention and memory, but our new analysis shows that the action elements do not seem to offer significant benefits to younger adults. It instead seems to be the strategy elements of the games—planning and problem-solving for example—that stimulate better memory and attention in young people. We don't see this same effect on older adults, however, and more research is needed to understand why this is."Dr. Joe Cutting, from the University of York's Department of Computer Science, said : “Generally people have a good ability to ignore irrelevant distractions. We would expect for example that a person could memorise the name of a street while being distracted by a child or a dog, but this ability does decline as we age.” Joe added," Puzzle games for older people had this surprising ability to support mental capabilities to the extent that memory and concentration levels were the same as a 20 year-olds who had not played puzzle games."The researchers say future study could focus on why there is a difference between the impacts of types of games depending on the age of a player and whether this is connected to how the brain stores information as people age.8、How is older adults' performance in strategy games?A. Unsatisfactory.B. Excellent.C. Unbelievable.D. Amazing.9、According to the study, what mental ability specifically tends to decrease as humans age?A. Analysis ability.B. Working memory.C. During one session, as he tried to help her uncover the source of her sickness, Freud observed Jenny toying with a small handbag. Interpreting the act as an expression of controlled desire, Freud concluded, “No people can keep a secret. If his lips are silent, he chatters with his finger-tips; the details reveal everything.”Sometimes a handbag is just a handbag, but modern research does support the idea that secrecy can be a source of mental and physical sadness. Keeping a secret requires constant effort. In one recent study, subjects asked to hide their sexual orientation performed worse on a spatial ability task, reacted more rudely to criticism, and gave up sooner in a test of handgrip endurance(握力耐力).And the bigger the secret, the harder it is to keep. Another study found that subjects asked to recall a meaningful secret believed hills to be more dangerous and distances to be longer than those asked to recall a small secret. When researchers asked to help move books from their lab, the subjects harboring meaningful secrets lifted fewer piles.Research shows an association between keeping a meaningful secret and illness ranging from the common cold to chronic(慢性的)diseases. It concludes that teens who open their mind to a parent or close friend report fewer physical complaints and less bad behavior, loneliness, and depression than those who sit on their secrets. One reason why secret keeping is such hard work is that secrets, like unwanted thoughts, tend to take up more brain space.intrusive (妨碍的)thoughts about sensitive information they are controlling: they may keep their secrets so tightly wrapped that they manage to hide them even from themselves.12、What is Paragraph One aimed at?A. Providing an example of depression.B. Showing us how Freud treated Jenny.C. Introducing the topic of secret-keeping.D. 高三年级10月学情检测语文答案1.(3分)A(B项“就是为了解决这一矛盾”错;C项“阅读价值才是它最重要的方面”错;D项“二者相互依存”“不能脱离彼此”错)2.(3分)B(A项过于绝对;C项于文无据;D项过于绝对)3.(3分)C(C项只强调了翻译的目的是使人看懂,没有涉及直译、意译)4.(4分)①材料一:从宏观、细节上阐述古籍今译的重要作用;②材料二:从传承弘扬优秀文化上阐述古籍今译的作用。

We were shy and "too serious" about our studies when it was becoming fashionable with our classmates to learn acceptable social behaviors. We said little at school, but she would come to my house and we would sit down with pencils and paper, and one of us would say: "Let's start with a train whistle today." We would sit quietly together and write separate poems or stories that grew out of a train whistle. Then we would read them aloud. At the end of that school year, we, too, were changing into social creatures and the stories and poems stopped. When I lived for a time in London, I had a friend. He was in despair (失望) and I was in despair. But our friendship was based on the idea in each of us that we would be sorry later if we did not explore this great city because we had felt bad at the time. We met every Sunday for five weeks and found many excellent things. We walked until our despairs disappeared and then we parted. We gave London to each other. For almost four years I have had remarkable friend whose imagination illuminates mine. We write long letters in which we often discover our strangest selves. Each of us appears, sometimes in a funny way, in the other's dreams. She and I agree that, at certain times, we seem to be parts of the same mind.It is such comforting companions I wish to keep. That is all it takes in order to be considered a good friend. Willingness must come from within your heart. Listening to your friends makes them feel important, special and wanted. The will to sacrifice for your friends will also take you a step closer to being a good friend. For instance,as you are about to leave to enjoy your Saturday night, your best friend calls you right when you are stepping out and tells you how terrible he feels, and then you must be willing to give up your Saturday night and go to your friend’s house and try to comfort him in any way that you can.You must always be willing to give advice to your friends. For example, if your friends are in a situation where they do not know what to do,you must be willing to think things through and try to give them the best advice. The willingness to care is also a big must in being a good friend. You must care about how your friends feel and what they’re experiencing. Caring about your friends is one of the best things you can do,because when your friends are in their time of need and the whole world seems to turn against them, you must be the one to care.Nobody ever said being a good friend was easy. Savannah is my twin sister and my life would be completely different without her. Everyone always thinks it’s amazing to have a twin and it is but it’s also not. People always beautify having a twin. They say it’s natural to be good friends, which is true, but nobody ever talks about the negative side of it.People also say things like “Who’s the smarter twin?” As twins, we are constantly getting compared. In the second grade, she got admitted to a class for advanced students. In 6th grade she was put into advanced math. I finally got put into advanced math for 8th grade but it still wasn’t enough because by then she was in a class that was two years ahead and mine was just one. So people called me the dumb twin.I played soccer from the ages 5-9. I quit when I was 9 because people decided Savannah was better and I didn’t want to hear it anymore. She still plays. We also played softball together when we were 10-11. I quit that too mainly for the same reason. One day when I was in 7th grade, Savannah, our friends and I were at top golf for one of their birthdays. We were almost done playing. My friend Allison said, “Savannah, how does it feel to be losing to the unathletic twin?” Allison didn’t play any sports either, but since she wasn’t a twin, she wasn’t getting compared to anyone.I could write a million stories about who’s the prettier twin? Who’s the uglier twin? Who’s the funnier twin? It never really ends. Even though we get compared, I still love Savannah and she has made such a huge impact on my life.As I’ve gotten older, it has less of an effect on me when people compare us. I have realized that there is always going to be someone out there comparing us and there is nothing I can do about it. I am growing into my own person.4.What is rarely discussed about twins according to the text?A.The appearance.B.The bad side.C.The difference.D.The friendship. 5.Why was the author thought stupid?A.She did very badly in class.B.She learned advanced math in Grade 8.C.She liked to compare herself to Savannah.D.She was worse than Savannah in her studies.6.Why did the author give up softball?A.She played it worse than Savannah.B.She was injured in a match.C.She was laughed at by teammates.D.She had lost interest in it.7.What is the author’s attitude towards being compared at last?A.Negative.B.Unclear.C.Doubtful.D.Acceptable.China has built in Kunming City, Yunnan Province, the Germplasm (种质) Bank of Wild Species, a comprehensive national database for the collection and preservation of wildlife germplasm resources. As of the end of 2020, the bank preserved 85,046 copies of 10,601 wild plant seeds for protecting wildlife germplasm resources. Preserving dried and frozen seeds, the bank provides technological support for the protection and research, makes use of China’s wildlife germplasm resources, and plays a major part in international biodiversity conservation. The importance of science and technology for biodiversity conservation is increasingly obvious. When remote sensor monitoring was not available, agricultural technicians had no choice but to go for field studies, which could barely meet the need for large-scale, fast and nondestructive (非破坏性的) monitoring of crop conditions and timely prevention and control of diseases and pests. Nowadays, remote sensor monitoring has been applied in agricultural production in China, allowing agricultural technicians to analyze the movements of insect pests and evaluate plant diseases and insect pests by monitoring remotely the vegetation growth, coverage, surface temperature, humidity and other indicators. In the Internet era, information technology has made the processing of massive data possible and created wider and more convenient platforms for biodiversity conservation in China, including Chinese Virtual Herbarium, Plant Photo Bank of China, and National Animal Collection Resource Center. The emergence of databases and digital programs in recent years is driving China to turn around its seriously threatened biodiversity. From the collection and storage of information to the management and analysis ofresources, the constantly improving biodiversity information network has realized the exploration and use of massive biodiversity data, providing a solid foundation for China’s biodiversity conservation and research. Biodiversity conservation and science and technology are inextricable. Only by making science and technology a strong support for biodiversity conservation can humankind guard the Earth and build a beautiful world of harmony among all beings on the planet.8.What can we learn about the bank from paragraph 1?A.Its crisis.B.Its administration.C.Its role.D.Its staff. 9.What do researchers hardly need to do with the help of remote sensor monitoring?A.Evaluate plant diseases and insect pests.B.Go to fields to control the plant diseases.C.Analyze the tracks of the pests of plants.D.Satisfy the need to monitor crop conditions.10.What does the underlined word “inextricable” in the last paragraph probably mean?A.Linked.B.Competitive.C.Inadequate.D.Inessential. 11.Which can be a suitable title for the text?A.The Germplasm Bank of Wild Species Develops FastB.Technologies Promote Chinese Biodiversity ProtectionC.China Has Made Great Efforts to Process Massive DataD.Information Technology Contributes Much to Many FieldsIf you live in San Diego, you’ve probably noticed some strangely coloured water on the beach lately. You might wonder about red tide, but it’s actually an intentional job. Scientists at UC San Diego Scripps Institution of Oceanography and University of Washington have been experimenting with dyeing (给……染色) the ocean at San Diego beach pink. What could they possibly be up to?This is being done for a study that examines how fresh water on the outlet of the sea is intermixing with the ocean. The experiment is called Plumes in Nearshore Conditions (PiNC) . “I’m excited because this research hasn’t been done before and it’s a really unique experiment,” said Sarah Giddings, a Scripps coastal oceanographer leading the PiNC study. “The aim is to understand how fresh water interacts with ocean waves, since it is usually warmer than ocean water and more floating.” The researchers are hoping that this pink dyeexperiment will help them record more about how pollutants and sediments (沉积物) are distributed in the ocean water through these additions of fresh water. The fresh water is dyed pink so that the team can easily keep track of it when fresh water is added to the sea water. The dye does not threaten the wildlife living there and is then spotted as it progresses in the water. It is tracked by sensors on poles that are located along the sand as well as by drones There’s also a device that tracks the light that is given off by the pink dye. The sensors record the height of the waves, ocean currents and temperature.Giddings explained, “We’re bringing together a lot of different people with different expertise. I think it’s going to have some really great results and impacts. We will combine the results from this experiment with a former field study and computer models to help us further understand how the dyed fresh water spreads.”12.How does the author lead in the topic of the text?A.By showing a strange phenomenon.B.By making an assumption.C.By quoting a well-known saying.D.By making a comparison.13.What is the purpose of Plumes in Nearshore Conditions?A.To introduce the benefits of dyeing sea water pink.B.To show how fresh water combines with sea water.C.To prove that fresh water is warmer than sea water.D.To examine the impact of fresh water on sea water.14.Why is pink dye used by the team?A.It can enormously give off light.B.It can function well with sensors.C.It can be recognized easily and eco-friendly.D.It seems to attract wildlife and spread rapidly.15.What will the researchers do according to Giddings’ words in the last paragraph?A.Challenge the results with some experts.B.Build more scientific computer models.C.Experiment with dyes of another colour.D.Integrate more results of former studies. When it comes to earning wealth, some people admire wealth to an extreme level, overlooking spiritual values. The move was good for me professionally, but I worried about my husband and daughters. I also feared that I wouldn’t be able to give my kids the childhood they deserved (应得的).Anne, our first daughter, came into the world when I was a junior majoring in biology in college. It was challenging to balance classes, work schedules, and being a mom. But I got through it, finding moments of joy along the way. On the nights when I was home, I’d read my class notes out loud with my daughter. She’d respond by asking questions, such as “Mom, what are bacteria (细菌)?” It helped us both learn. After I graduated, I knew that I would need a PhD to land the kind of job I wanted. I arrived in New York feeling more than the usual new-graduate-student anxiety. I also suffered from a more personal fear that I was being selfish — that my decision to prioritize my career was going to have long-term bad impacts on my kids. So, I made a rule lo never be visibly upset about my work in front of my children.Over the past year, though, I’ve started to let go of some of this worry. I’ve realized that we have not only adapted to our new situation, but things are getting better. My husband landed a job that he is happy with. Anne dreams of becoming a biologist. Recently, while driving past the cancer institute I work at, Anne said, “Thinking about people having cancer is so sad, but I feel better knowing that you are researching it to help.”Pursuing academic career as a young mother is hard, but it’s also rewarding. The dialogue form makes it possible for ChatGPT to answer follow up questions, admit its mistakes, challenge incorrect places, and reject improper requests. It has reached 100 million users just two months after launching, according to analysts. ChatGPT has taken the world by storm since it launched last November. The AI chatbot answers questions online in text format in a human-like way, and it can also write its responses in different styles, for example, that of a student writing an essay.GPT technology can help people write code quickly and accurately with the help of natural language. GPT can take a text prompt and generate code that is tailored to the given task. This technology has the potential to cut down development time, as it can generate code quickly and accurately. It can also help reduce the risk of errors, as GPT is capable of generating code that can be tested and used immediately. Some teachers are worried about how many of their pupils are using it to do their homework and have written to parents warning them about it. Others say they can spot its essay, and there are now tools being released which claim to be able to differentiate (区别) human text from that written by artificial intelligence. But the cat is out of the bag, and now the International Baccalaureate (IB国际文凭课程)says its students can take advantage of the tech, just like using a calculator to work out a maths problem, as long as they admit to it by both crediting ChatGPT in the text and adding a reference note at the end.Good news for students, but ChatGPT’s knowledge database only goes up to September 2021, so it’s not very useful on topical subjects, and, as it gets its information from the internet, it can also be inaccurate.8.What is paragraph 3 mainly about?A.The potential of ChatGPT.B.How to use ChatGPT.C.The benefits of ChatGPT.D.How to generate code.9.Why do some teachers write to parents?A.ChatGPT makes academic to be honest.B.ChatGPT can write without recognition.C.The content of ChatGPT are entirely new.D.Many pupils use ChatGPT to dohomework.10.What can we know from what IB says about ChatGPT?A.It can be used under certain conditions.B.Teachers can tell human text from that by AI.C.Its knowledge database is updated to this day.D.Pupils use it to do homeworkwithout thinking.11.What does the last paragraph suggest?A.ChatGPT is popular among all the students.B.ChatGPT’s know ledge database needs updating.C.ChatGPT’s information can be always dependable.D.ChatGPT may know nothing about current events.Lake Mary Jane in central Florida, where people living along the lake like to go boating and swimming and watch the wildlife, is under pressure from development. Orange County, which surrounds the lake, is one of the fastest-growing counties in Florida. A development planned for a site just north of Mary Jane would transform nineteen hundred acres of wetlands and cypress forest into homes. In an effort to protect herself, Mary Jane is suing (起诉). The lake has filed a case (立案) in Florida state court, stressing that the development would negatively impact the lake, causing concrete, distinct, and visible injuries. Mary Jane’s case is the first in Americanhistory. Never before has a lifeless slice of nature tried to defend its rights in the court. “It is long past time to recognize that we are dependent on nature and the continued destruction of nature needs to stop,” Mari Margil, director of the Center for Democratic and Environmental Rights, said in a statement. The concept that natural objects like woods and streams should have rights was first put forward half a century ago, by Christopher Stone, a law professor who was assigned to teach University of Southern California’s introductory course on property law in 1971. He explained how ownership rights had developed over time and why our natural objects like trees or even rocks should also be given rights. This little thought experiment set off a heated debate nationwide. Each time there is a movement to give rights to some new things, the proposal is bound to sound odd or frightening or laughable. However, this extension of rights, Stone argued, was needed to address an unavoidable problem. So long as natural objects were valued only in terms of their worth to humans — for the use of humans they could, quite legally, be destroyed.Despite the fact that the developer is pushing to have Mary Jane’s case dismissed, arguing that the rights the lake wants do not — and cannot — exist, people are starting taking Stone’s words seriously. Even Stone’s critics had fun with his idea. There’s no way to get back to the past. The lake’s wish is pretty clear: It just wants to be left alone.12.What challenge is Lake Mary Jane facing?A.The negative effect of the locals’ leisure activities.B.The loss of the wetlands due to the climate change.C.The ever-increasing wildlife population in the area.D.The housing development affecting its environment.13.What’s Mari Margil’s attitude towards the filed case?A.Intolerant.B.Unclear.C.Approving.D.Doubtful. 14.What’s the purpose of Christopher Stone’s object rights concept?A.To inspire his students’ curiosity.B.To evaluate the value of natural things.C.To avoid being laughed at by his critics.D.To keep people from destroying nature. 15.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?A.Stone will face more criticisms.B.The influence of the case is great.C.Lake Mary Jane is bound to win the case.D.The claim of Lake Mary Jane is ridiculous. How to Write a Movie ReviewWhether it’s for pleasure or a job requirement, writing a good movie review can be a useful exercise. 16 If you’ve recently watched a film and want to share your opinions about it, here are some tips to help you compose a wonderful movie review.Follow your main text with a short plot summary. It’s good to give readers an idea of the movie you’re reviewing. Give a brief summary of the main characters, the setting and the central conflict of the movie. Never break the number one rule of movie reviews: don’t give too much away. 17Move into your analysis of the movie. Write several paragraphs discussing the interesting elements in the movie that support your points. Discuss the acting, the direction, the cinematography and the setting, keeping your writing clear and easy to understand. 18 Use plenty of examples to back up your points. If you make a statement about the movie, back it up with a descriptive example. Describe the way scenes look, the way a certain person acted, camera angles, and so on. 19 In this way you are giving your readers a feel of the movie and continuing to express your comments on the film at the same time.20 . You could treat your review like a formal college essay. But it’s more interesting if you make it your own. If your writing style is usually humorous or interesting, your review should be no exception. If you’re serious or dramatic, that works, too. Let your language and writing style reflect your unique view and personality — it’s much more entertaining for the readers.A.Give it some personality.B.Don’t ruin the movie for your readers.C.It is necessary to keep a humorous writing style.D.You should first watch enough movies on your own.E.You can use dialogues to help you express your views.F.So don’t use too many technical terms about film making.G.It allows you to explore your personal connection with a film. In the summer of 2019, Tomas Quinones was undertaking a seven-day “bikepacking”truck asked if he needed any help.On the last day of his trip, he was riding down a 26 track when he came upon a man lying unconscious on the desert floor. Through the summer program, students can learn about campus resources, skills needed to be successful and more.“USF is important to first generation students because we are changing not only their lives, but the lives of their families,”said Rhea Law,president of USF.“We’re making a significant difference for them and for their communities for years to come.”4.What can we learn about Jazmin’s parents?A.They are always supportive of her.B.They lead an easy life in Mexico.C.They finished college in the US.D.They teach agriculture in a school. 5.Why did Jaelyn choose to work with Student Support Services?A.To apply for a new position.B.To improve her writing skills.C.To save money for further study.D.To help more students like her. 6.What is the main purpose of the summer program?A.To show students how to face facts.B.To encourage students to read books.C.To prepare students for college life.D.To provide good jobs for students. 7.What does Rhea think of the impact of USF’s work?A.Short-lived.B.Far-reaching.C.Worrying.D.Unchanged.As the planet gets hotter, the need for cool living environments is becoming more pressing. But air conditioning(AC)is the main cause of global warming since AC units use lots of energy. Now,researchers from McGill University have found in a new study an inexpensive and green solution to AC in hot climates. The researchers set out to answer how to achieve a new benchmark(基准)in natural cooling inside naturally conditioned buildings in hot climates such as Southern California. They checked the use of roof materials that radiate(散发)heat into the open air, even under direct sunlight, and how to put them together with temperature driven ventilation(通风). These cool radiator materials and coatings are often used to stop roofs overheating. Researchers have also used them to improve the performance of coolers. There is a real possibility of applying the materials to housing design more fully,so they can not only radiate indoor heat into the outside of a house in a natural way,but also drive regular and healthy air changes.“We found we could maintain air temperatures several degrees below the surrounding temperature,”said Remy Fortin, lead author of the study.“We did this taking healthy ventilation air changes into consideration.”This was a significant challenge, considering air exchanges are a source of heating when the aim is to keep a room cooler than the outside. The researchers hope the findings will be used to positively impact communities suffering from dangerous climate heating.“We hope that materials scientists and engineers will be interested in these results, and that our work will inspire more creative thinking for how to make breakthroughs in radiative cooling materials while finding simple but effective housing design solutions,”said Salmaan Craig, who took part in the project.

Where does this text probably come from?A. websiteB. magazineC. newspaperD. guidebookBWhen reading, my mother likes to slice a paragraph or a sentence out and attach it to the wall of her kitchen. She picks big sentences that puzzle me. But I prefer copying favorite bright lines into a journal in soft, gray No.2 pencil word by word. She doesn't know any of this. There’s nothing shocking for our chatting. We seldom begin certain conversations though we talk on the phone weekly, sometimes making each other laugh so hard that I choke and she cries. But what we don't say could fill up rooms. Fights with my father. Small failures in school. Anything that really upsets us.My mother has never told me “I love you, Lisa.”—as if the four word absence explains who I am—so I carry it with me, like a label on me. The last time she almost spoke the words was two years ago, when she called to tell me a friend had been in hospital. I said, “I love you, Mom.” She stopped for a while and then said, “Thank you.” I haven't said it since, but I’ve wondered why my mother doesn’t until I've found a poem that supplies words for the blank spaces I try to understand in our conversations:Don’t fill upon bread. I say absent-mindedly. The servings here are huge.My son, middle aged, says: Did you really just say that to me?What he doesn’t know is that when we're walking together I desire to reach for his hand. It’s humble, yet heartbreaking, After copying it down in my journal, I emailed it to mom, adding “This poem makes me think of you” My mother doesn’t read poetry—or at least, she doesn’t tell me, and I felt nervous clicking “Send”.She never mentioned the poem. But the next time I went home for vacation, I noticed something new in the kitchen fixed to an antique board: then poem. The hoard hung above the heater, the warmest spot in the kitchen. The poems still hangs there. Neither my mother nor l have ever spoken about it.4. What's the function of paragraph 1?A. To stress the theme.B. To represent the characters.C. To establish the setting.D. To create the atmosphere.5. Which of the following best describes the mother daughter relationship?A. Shaky.B. Reserved.C. Distant.D. Intense.6. Why did the author send the poem to her mom?A. It suited mom's taste of literature.B. She wanted to apologize to mom.C. It reminded her of mom's love.D. She needed an interpretation from mom.7. What does the poem mean to mom?A. A memory of golden days.B. Daughter's gratefulness to her.C. A decoration in the plain kitchen.D. Daughter's understanding of her.CAmong my friends, one topic seems to dominate our conversations: bones .It makes sense, given that 20 percent of American women over 50 have osteoporosis(骨质疏松) and that more than half have bone loss. For men, the figures are lower: 4 percent and a third. Worldwide, one out of three women over 50 and one out of five older men will develop a fracture(骨折). Another reason for the endless argument about bone problems is mass confusion over how best to strengthen your bones and whether diet really makes a difference.Diet research is always messy, and study results on nutrition and bone health haven't been consistent. But gradually some clarity is emerging. As we draw up resolutions for what to eat, it's useful to look at new data on vitamin D. Calcium is the key clement for building bones, and. vitamin D helps to absorb calcium from the food we cat, so doctors often recommend D supplements(补充剂) to make up forage-related bone loss. But a recent study found that taking D supplements for five years did not reduce the rate of fractures in seniors. That result built on earlier findings, led by the same team, that these supplements do not improve bone density(密度) . “Food and sun exposure likely provide enough vitamin D for healthy adults,” says Meryl LeBoff, whole d the study. What does help maintain strong bones for all of us? The easy answer is food high in calcium, such as milk and tofu. Getting it from food is best, LeBoff says, “because there are so many other nutrients(营养物质), and you have a more continuous absorption than with D supplements.”The other key element of bone health involves calories out rather than calories in. Weight-bearing exercise stimulates bone formation throughout life. So while focusing on better nutritional choices, add more exercise to your daily menu.8. What do the statistics in paragraph 1 emphasize?A. The concern about senior citizens.B. The seriousness of bone problems.C. The confusion about strengthening bones.D. The importance of having a balanced diet.9. What does the underlined sentence in paragraph 2imply?A. Diet research is no longer a challenge.B. We've made resolutions to study diets.C. Findings on bone health prove to be similar.D. We begin to agree on ways to keep bones healthy.10. What can be inferred from the recent study?A. People can absorb vitamin Din food easily.B. The findings go against LeBoffs earlier ones.C. D supplements playa minor role than expected.D. Fractures are linked with weight-bearing exercise.11. What is a suitable title for the text?A. The magic of D supplementsB. Your bones cry!C.A recipe for better bonesD. Vitamin D wins!DIn conversations with strangers, people commonly tend to think they should speak less than half the conversation time to be likable. But we've discovered this idea is wrong. Our data shows that people tend to think they should speak about 45% of the time to be likable in a one-on-one conversation with someone new. However, it appears speaking up a bit more is actually a better strategy. In our research, we randomly assigned people to speak for 30%, 40%, 50%, 60% of the time in a conversation with someone new. We found that the more they spoke, the more they were liked by their new partners. This was only one study with 116 participants, but the outcome is supported by other researchers' findings. For example, a previous study randomly assigned one in a pair to take on the role of “speaker” and the other to take on the role of “listener.” After engaging in 12-minute interactions, listeners liked speakers more than speakers liked listeners because listeners felt more similar to speakers than speakers did to listeners. This outcome suggests the reason people prefer those who speak up: Learning more about a new partner can make you feel like you have more in common with him or her.Further, we assigned people to speak for up to 70% and even 90% of the time. The result shows it is not an ideal strategy. Our research does not suggest people hold down a conversational partner but rather that they feel comfortable speaking up more than they usually might.Research like our scan help people gain a ‘more reasonable understanding of social interactions with new people and become more confident about how to make a good first impression. It has the obvious benefit of allowing us to carefully control speaking time. However, it does not reflect more natural conversations. Future research should figure out whether our findings generalize to more natural interactions.12. What is the common belief concerning conversations with strangers?A. Speaking a little less is preferred.B. Speaking half the time is the best.C. Listeners are more likable than speakers.D. Listeners fail to control the conversations.13. How was the research carried out?A. By making comparisons.B. By analyzing speaking habits.C. By listing examples.D. By collecting data.14. What is the disadvantage of the research?A. The conversation time is limited.B. Further study is hard to continue.C. Interactions with strangers are missing.D. The findings are less widely app liable.15. In which situation can the research finding be applied?A. Attending a family gathering.B. Partying with your friends.C. Making a public speech.D. Meeting a new teacher.
