Teaching procedure

Step1 lead-in

Brainstorm Ask students the following questions about pets to activate their

interest in pets and the new lesson.

• Do you have a pet?

• Do you like your pet?

• What kind of pet do you like? Why?

Step2 vocabulary

1. Play the multimedia to show names of pets and ask the following

questions to make students concentrate on the show and get ready for

the 1a.

Which of these animals would be good pets?

Which would be bad pets?

Who can remember the most names of pets?

Pay attention to mouse and mice

2. Ask students to use the given adjectives to describe the pets they

saw.

Pay attention to the superlatives of the adjectives.

3. Pair work

Discuss opinions about pets with adjectives.

Step3 listening and oral practice

1. Listen to the tape and finish 2a and 2b.

Check answers and show differences between pets.

Give advice to different people to choose pets.

Step4 reading

Before reading the teacher ask students to read the following

questions: 1. Why do you think pot- bellied pigs are popular?

2. What are the advantages and disadvantages of keeping such a pet?

listening to the tape.
