A carbon footprint is the measure of influence our activities have on the environment, in particular climate change. It is calculated by the amount of greenhouse gas we produce in our daily lives. Fortunately, nowadays it is much easier to make eco﹣friendly lifestyle choices than, let's say, 20 years ago. But one question has been on my mind a lot lately: is it better to buy new eco﹣friendly products or used traditionally produced goods? After doing some research, I have decided that some things are better new and others are better used. Let me try to explain.A carbon footprint is made up of two parts, the primary footprint and the secondary footprint. The primary footprint is a measure of our direct emissions (排放) of carbon dioxide (CO2)from the burning of fuels, including household energy consumption and transportation. The secondary footprint is a measure of the indirect CO2 emissions from the whole lifecycle of products we use ﹣ those related to their production and breakdown.Based on this understanding, we have a good deal of control and responsibility over our carbon footprint. Things like dishes, clothes and furniture fall into the "secondary footprint" group, so less is more and we can focus on finding used goods to avoid the added production. However, for the car and the other appliances (设备) that we need we can go with new, energy﹣saving models. I heard somewhere that electronics and appliances give off 90% of their carbon footprint after they leave the factory. So it seems most reasonable to go for the energy﹣saving models. The main concern here is the amount of energy that goes into the making of new products and whether or not that extra carbon is worth ________ the product will make once it gets to you.(1)What is the text mainly about?________A. What appliances to buy to save energy.B. What a carbon footprint means in our life.C. How to identify different carbon footprints.D. How to make eco﹣friendly lifestyle choices..(2)What do we know about the secondary carbon footprint?________A. It is related to our consumption of fuels.B. It is made when we are buying the products.C. It is less harmful than the primary carbon footprint.D. It is counted as ours though not directly made by us..(3)Which of the following helps reduce our carbon footprint according to the author?________A. Using second﹣hand textbooks.B. Using old and expensive cars.C. Buying new but cheap clothes.D. Buying new wooden furniture..(4)"The footprint" underlined in the last sentence refers to the CO2 produced in________.A. using the productB. recycling the productC. making the productD. transporting the product.3. Magic is a form of entertainment that is based on pretending to do things that are impossible. The magician is a specially trained actor. He tries to make the audience believe that he has the power to do things which are against the laws of nature.Magic shows are entertaining as long as the audience does not discover how the tricks are done. The magician usually depends on his skill with his hands, on his knowledge of psychology, and, sometimes, on mechanical devices (机械装置). Since magic performance is meant to trick people, the use of psychology is important. The magician must keep people from noticing all the movements of his hands and from thinking about the secret parts of his equipment. He must also lead the audience to draw false conclusions. The magician's success depends on the fact that many things seen by the eye are not the things that matter. Two basic magic tricks are making objects seem to appear and making objects seem to disappear. A combination of these two tricks makes for some interesting effects. For example, the magician puts a small ball under one of several cups. The ball then seems to jump from one cup to another or to change colour. What actually happens is that the magician, employing quick hand movements or a mechanical device, hides one ball. While doing this he talks to the audience and waves a brightly coloured cloth with one hand. The audience is too busy watching the cloth and listening to the magician's words to notice that his other hand is hiding the ball.Another favourite trick is to cut or burn something, and then make it appear whole again. What actually happens is that the magician makes the cut or burned object disappear by quickly hiding it while the audience watches something else. Then he "magically" makes it appear whole again by displaying(展示)another object that has not been cut or burned.(1)What is the author's main purpose in writing the text?________A. To promote a magic show.B. To teach people to be magicians.C. To explain the art of magic.D. To praise the talents of magicians..(2)Which of the following is important for a successful magic trick?________A. Moving stage equipment.B. Directing the audience's attention.C. Applying high technology.D. Keeping the performance in secret..(3)What does the author focus on in the last two paragraphs?________A. Providing examples.B. Making a summary.C. Drawing comparisons.D. Explaining a concept..(4)What can we infer from the text?________A. Mechanical devices are expensive.B. Most magicians employ assistants.C. It takes practice to perform magic.D. Small objects are magicians' favourite..4. The average bear, it seems, is getting ever smarter. First, it turned out that at least one can use a comb. Now it appears that some can count, too.Jennifer Vonk, of Oakland University, in Michigan, and Michael Beran, from Georgia State University, set three American black bears the task of distinguishing between numerically larger and smaller groups of dots (点) on a computer screen. In return for a food reward one bear, Brutus, would touch the more heavily dotted pattern with his nose. The others, Bella and Dusty, would touch the screen with their claws (爪子).As the researchers report in Animal Behavior, the bears did best with patterns where the coloured dots did not move and where more of them also took up a larger coloured area. This could be explained by the bears' distinguishing the different areas of colour rather than truly counting the dots. However, the three bears managed to pick out the bigger number of dots even in pairs of patterns where fewer dots took up a larger area.Moving patterns, where each dot followed its own path around the screen, were more of a challenge. But Brutus, at least, was not defeated. He seemed to be counting mobile dots even when the scientists tried to mislead him by moving the total coloured area of the dots at the same time.It is not entirely surprising that bears should have a high degree of intelligence. They face a lot of challenges when trying to get food. They are, however, always alone, and so do not have the complex social systems that contribute to animal smarts. Perhaps, then, their maths skill developed because they cannot count on their friends for help.(1)What task did the scientists set for the three bears?________A. Distinguishing different dot patterns.B. Figuring out different colours of dots.C. Putting the dots into differently coloured groups.D. Picking out the group with a larger number of dots..(2)For the bears, the task was easier when________.A. the coloured dots were moving slowlyB. the dot patterns were regular in shapeC. the dots followed a path on the screenD. more dots covered a larger coloured area.(3)What may explain the bears' high degree of intelligence?________A. They learn skills from other animals.B. They face life challenges on their own.C. They feed on a diverse range of food.D. They have complex social networks..(4)What can be a suitable title for the text?________A. Bears Taught to Distinguish ColoursB. New Evidence of Bear Intelligence FoundC. Three Bears Learned How to CountD. The Smartest American Black Bear Brutus.第二节(共1小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。

They serve some certain purpose, teach you a lesson or help find out who you are or who you want to become. You never know who these people may be: your classmate, neighbor, teacher, long-lost friend or even a real stranger. But you know that every moment they will influence your life in some serious way.Sometimes things happen to you. At the time they may seem terrible, painful and unfair. But later you realize that without overcoming those difficulties, you would have never realized your further ability and advantages. Everything happens for a reason and nothing happens by chance or with good or bad luck. The people you meet influence your life, and the success and failure you experience create who you are. Even the bad experience can be learned from. In fact, they are probably the most poignant and important ones.Enjoy every day even every moment and take from it everything that you possibly can, for you may never be able to experience it again. Talk to people whom you have never talked to before, and really listen. You should set your goals high, hold your head up, tell yourself you are a great one and believe in yourself. You can make your life anything you wish. Create your own life and then go out and live it.6.The people we meet .A.all know where to find usB.serve us on no purposeC.won’t become our neighborsD.will change us in some wayA.realize our further abilityB.terribly meet bad luckC.find no serious successD.possibly enjoy every momentA.平淡的B.明显的C.深刻的D.艰苦的A.never talk to strange peopleB.learn as much as we can each dayC.overcome difficulties painfullyD.not believe in ourselves but others10.Which is the best title for the passage?A.Create Your Own LifeB.Hold Your Head UpC.People You Meet in LifeD.Things Happen to YouGE Money has recently done a study. It shows that women spend over 8 years of their life shopping. According to the study, women spend about 400 hours each year shopping. Almost a quarter of that time is spent doing some shopping for food.Luckily, Million Looks magazine says that shopping can be a good thing, and they give some interesting facts about women and shopping. The magazine says that women who shop for more than 17 hours a week are thinner and healthier than those who spend less time shopping. The magazine also says that women who shop more often look and feel much younger than those who dislike shopping. Finally, they say that most women who enjoy shopping are more confident and happier. We cannot be sure if these things are true, but one thing that is really true is that shopping is big business. There are now about 50,000 shopping malls in the United States alone, and each person spends $ 75 each time they visit a mall. The shopping malls also try their best to encourage people to spend as much as possible, and stay in the mall as long as possible. Escalators are placed in so that people can use them to pass many different stores. You may have also noticed that places to sit are hard to find in malls. This is because people can’t spend money when they are sitting!11.How long does each woman spend shopping for food in a year?A.100 hours.B.200 hours.C.300 hours.D.400 hours.A.shopping makes women happierB.shopping makes women healthierC.shopping takes women too much timeD.shopping is really good for womenA.GE MoneyB.Million Looks magazineC.women who enjoy shoppingD.women who dislike shopping14.What does the writer think of shopping according to paragraph 3?A.Shopping makes women look younger.B.Shopping makes women more confident.C.Shopping is really big business.D.Shopping is really interesting.A.there are too many people in mallsB.malls want to save moneyC.malls want people to walk and buyD.there are not enough places to sitChinese buyers used to prize foreign brands, thinking that products made by American or European companies are of higher quality (质量) than Chinese ones. Increasingly, that’s no longer the case.Chinese people born before 1985 generally think that foreign brands are better than Chinese ones, billionaire William Li told Business Insider during a recent interview on CCTV 9. But for those who were born after 1985, it is a different picture.“When I first went to the United Kingdom in 1997, I thought that the difference between China and Europe was quite big,” Li said. “But for those born in the 1990s, when they visit Europe or the US, they do not think there is a big difference.”The change in thinking among Chinese buyers is showing up in many markets in China where western companies used to control. A study by Credit Suisse published in March found that young Chinese buyers are increasingly showing a “home brand bias”.More than 90% of young Chinese buyers would prefer to buy home appliance brands, according to the study. Meanwhile, home companies producing food, drinks, or personal care products increased their share of the market by 3.3% over the last ten years to nearly 70%.“Chinese buyers, especially the younger ones, don’t just believe that foreign brands are better. Right now, Chinese buyers think China is good and ‘Made in China’ is not bad at all,” Charlie Chen, head of China buyer research at Credit Suisse, told South China Morning Post in March. The Chinese smartphone market is controlled by home companies- Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi. Apple is the only foreign brand in the top five, but it has lost large ground to thehome brands in recent years. Its market share is believed to be down to 37% from a 2015 high of 54%.16.What is this passage mainly about?A.The quality of “Made in China”.B.The change in Chinese buyers’ thinking.C.Chinese products in the eye of foreigners.D.The difference between older and younger Chinese buyers.17.Which of the following is true according to the text?A.More and more foreigners go to buy Chinese products.B.Foreign products are more expensive than Chinese ones.C.More and more Chinese buyers prefer Chinese products.D.Older Chinese people don’t like foreign products any more.A.Apple had a market share of 54% in 2015.B.More than 90% of young Chinese buyers prefer home brands.C.Chinese people born before 1985 think that foreign brands are better.D.William Li found a big difference between China and Europe in 1997.19.Who did most of the research for this report?A.Credit Suisse.B.CCTV 9.C.South China Morning Post.D.Business Insider.20.What’s the best title for this passage?A.Chinese products get more popular at homeB.Young Chinese are crazy for foreign brandsC.Made in China is welcomed all over the worldD.Apple has lost large ground to Huawei in China三、完形填空Suppose you find a bright yellow bike on a street corner in the city. A carbon footprint is the have on the environment, in particular climate change. It is calculated by the amount of greenhouse gas we produce in our daily lives. Fortunately, nowadays it is much easier to make eco-friendly lifestyle choices than, let's say, 20 years ago. But one question has been on my mind a lot lately: is it better to buy new eco-friendly products or used traditionally produced goods? After doing some research, I have decided that some things are better new and others are better used. Let me try to explain.A carbon footprint is made up of two parts, the primary footprint and the secondary footprint. The primary footprint is a measure of our direct emissions(排放) of carbon dioxide(CO2) from the burning of fuels, including household energy consumption and transportation The secondary footprint is a measure of the indirect CO2 emissions from the whole lifecycle of products we use-those related to their production and breakdown.Based on this understanding, we have a good deal of control and responsibility over our carbon footprint. Things like dishes, clothes and furniture fall into the "secondary footprint" group, so less is more and we can focus on finding used goods to avoid the added production. However, for the car and the other appliances(设备) that we need we can go with new energy-saving models. I heard somewhere that electronics and appliances give off 90% of their carbon footprint after they leave the factory. So it seems most reasonable to go for the energy-saving models. The main concern here is the amount of energy that goes into the making of new products and whether or not that extra carbon is worth the footprint the product will make once it gets to you.1. What is the text mainly about?A. What appliances to buy to save energy.B. What a carbon footprint means in our life.C How to identify different carbon footprints.D. How to make eco-friendly lifestyle choices.2. What do we know about the secondary carbon footprint?A. It is related to our consumption of fuels.B. It is made when we are buying the products.C. It is less harmful than the primary carbon footprint.D. It is counted as ours though not directly made by us.3. Which of the following helps reduce our carbon footprint according to the author?A Using second-hand textbooks.B Using old and expensive.C Buying new but cheap clothes.D. Buying new wooden furniture.4."The footprint" underlined in the last sentence refers to the CO2 produced in _____.A. using the productB. recycling the productC. making the productD. transporting the product【答案】2.1-4 BCAB3. Magic is a form of entertainment that is based on pretending to do things that are impossible. The magician is a specially trained actor. He tries to make the audience believe that he has the power to do things which are against the laws of nature.Magic shows are entertaining as long as the audience does not discover how the tricks are done. The magician usually depends on his skill with his hands, on his knowledge of psychology, and, sometimes, on mechanical devices(机械装置). Since magic performance is meant to trick people, the use of psychologyis important. The audience is too busy watching the cloth and listening to the magician, s words to notice that his other hand is hiding the ball.Another favourite trick is to cut or burn something, and then make it appear whole again. What actually happens is that the magician makes the cut or burned object disappear by quickly hiding it while the audience watches something else. Then he "magically" makes it appear whole again by displaying(展示) another object that has not been cut or burned.1. What is the author's main purpose in writing the text?A. To promote a magic show.B. To teach people to be magicians.C. To explain the art of magic.D. To praise the talents of magicians.2. Which of the following is important for a successful magic trick?A. Moving stage equipment.B. Directing the audience's attention.C. Applying high technology.D. Keeping the performance in secret.3. What does the author focus on in the last two paragraphs?A. Providing examples.B. Making a summary.C. Drawing comparisons.D. Explaining a concept.4. What can we infer from the text?A. Mechanical devices are expensive.B. Most magicians employ assistants.C. It takes practice to perform magic.D Small objects are magicians' favourite.【答案】3.1-4 CDAC4. The average bear, it seems, is getting ever smarter. First, it turned out that at least one can use a comb. Now it appears that some can count, too.Jennifer Vonk, of Oakland University, in Michigan, and Michael Beran, from Georgia State University, set three American black bears the task of distinguishing between numerically larger and smaller groups of dots(点) on a computer screen In return for a food reward one bear, Brutus, would touch the more heavily dotted pattern with his nose. The others, Bella and Dusty, would touch the screen with their claws(爪子). As the researchers report in Animal Behavior, the bears did best with patterns where the coloured dots did not move and where more of them also took up a larger coloured area. Perhaps, then, their maths skill developed because they cannot count on their friends for help.1. What task did the scientists set for the three bears?A. Distinguishing different dot patterns.B. Figuring out different colours of dots.C. Putting the dots into differently coloured groups.D Picking out the group with a larger number of dots.2. For the bears the task was easier when _____.A. the coloured dots were moving slowlyB the dot patterns were regular in shapeC the dots followed a path on the screenD. more dots covered a larger coloured area3. What may explain the bears' high degree of intelligence?A. They learn skills from other animals.B. They face life challenges on their own.C. They feed on a diverse range of food.D. They have complex social networks.4. What can be a suitable title for the text?A. Bears Taught to Distinguish ColourB. New Evidence of Bear Intelligence FoundC. Three Bears Leaned How to CountD. The Smartest American black Bear Brutus【答案】4.1-4 ADBB二、七选五5.阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。
