With a striking street presence, the Stealth is a unique solution to providing flexible office space within a confined area on an environmentally damaged site. The design of the Stealth began as a consequence of remediation required for soil removal on what was formerly an industrial site. One of three existing warehouses was demolished to provide access to the contaminated area. That earth was removed, leaving an enormous cavity, which was reshaped to form a sunken theatre/garden.
The Stealth is lifted up and set back from the street to make room for the gardens and parking. The office building can accommodate up to four tenants in a variety of configurations from open mezzanine floor plans to traditional enclosed office spaces. The transformation in section from a square to a triangle provides a constantly varying sequence of interior and exterior spaces. The block wall built to enclose the two remaining buildings has two openings: the north opening forms the theatre proscenium, the south opening allows pedestrian and vehicle access to the Wedgewood Holly Complex. Inside the old structures, a new multimedia centre faces the garden. Designed for user flexibility, the space can be converted into a performance stage. The stage can accommodate 200 seats, the garden 600. The Stealth employs the use of simple materials such as block, plaster and glass. Inexpensive finishes such as ACT ceilings and gypsum walls are used but with an emphasis on the detailing of such materials, their installation, and their maintenance. One of five buildings in the Wedgewood Holly Complex, the Stealth forms the western boundary, physically and visually enclosing a central garden/parking space. The Stealth spans the entry road, framing the view, and defines one secure, monitored entrance and exit.。
