T :This unit is concerned with a little more of the history and development of

computers and their applications. Computers are very important in everyday life

and we need to know about them. understanding the history of computers will help

us to see that there will be many changes ahed in the development of comprters.

Step 1. Lead-in

Show the topic of the unit and tell the students that what we are going to learn today.

At first,I will show them some pictures and get them to say what they are.

An old calculating machine used in China until now.

It is built to solve some mathematical problems. But it is too big. (A huge

computer)

It is a new calculating machine which can solve a large number of mathematical

problems.

Introduction

In this period, after the warming up, students will first be guided to imagine and share

their views about the technology. They will then be helped to read a narration entitled

WHO AM I.

Examples of “Warming Up” designs are presented in this book for teachers’ reference.

The topic of this unit are information technology，history and basic knowledge of

computers and robots。 The main theme is computers which is connected with teaching

students a little more of the history and development of computers and applications

computers will be vital to the modernization of China.

It is important for students to understand that the development of computers has been

a very recent thing which has only been 100 years since Charles Babbage began to make

his first machine that was the predecessor of the personal computers we use today.

Understanding the history of computers will help the students to see that there will be

many changes ahead in the development of computers and arouse students` interest in

learning computers.
