Walking through the Forbidden City makes you feel like you've traveled back in time hundreds of years to imperial China. My favorite parts were the beautiful gardens and the exhibits showing the lavish lifestyles of the emperors who lived there.Another famous historic site in Beijing is the Temple of Heaven, a stunning complex of religious buildings where the emperors would perform annual rituals and make sacrifices. Themost iconic part is the amazing triple-gabled circular temple called the Imperial Vault of Heaven. With its intricate designs and rich blue colors, it looks like something out of a fantasy movie. The surrounding gardens are also gorgeous places to walk around and you can see locals practicing tai chi, dancing, playing chess, and singing opera.While Beijing has these amazing historical sites, it is also a very modern and rapidly developing city. The center has a skyline packed with towering skyscrapers made of steel and glass. At night, the futuristic buildings light up with cool neon signs and lights. My favorite modern area was the 798 Art District, filled with fascinating contemporary art galleries set up in former factory buildings. The street art, sculptures, and exhibitions were all so creative and different from typical art museums.Beijing also has some incredible modern architecture like the iconic Bird's Nest Stadium, which hosted events for the 2008 Summer Olympics. Its weird but cool design kind of looks like a giant nest or bowl woven from branches and steel. Next to it is the Beijing National Aquatics Center called the Water Cube, which reminds me of a futuristic cube made of bubbles. Both buildings are just as amazing at night when they get lit up in brilliant light displays.With the mix of old and new, one of the things I enjoyed most about Beijing is how it blends tradition with modernity. You can visit centuries-old temples and palaces, but then walk around ultra-modern shopping malls and residential high-rises. Street food vendors sell classic delicacies like jianbing crepes, tandoor-baked cakes, and candied fruit on a stick right alongside modern businesses like high-end boutiques and cafes.The food in Beijing is so delicious! It's the birthplace of Peking duck, which is served with thin pancakes, plum sauce, and fresh vegetables. I also loved the lamb skewers, crispy fried chicken, dumplings, and hand-pulled noodles. For snacks, I ate lots of sugared hawthorn berries, Chinese donuts, and my new favorite - egg waffles with sweet or savory toppings. There is such an incredible variety of dishes, flavors, and cooking styles in Beijing.Getting around Beijing was an adventure in itself! The city has an amazing subway system that stretches for hundreds of miles and can take you basically anywhere, but it's often extremely crowded during rush hour. The same goes for traffic on the roads and highways, which can get totally gridlocked. A lot of people rely on bikes, mopeds, or rentable dockless app bikes to get around the huge city instead. I especially lovedseeing the old neighborhoodslike hutongs with their tiny alleys, courtyard homes, and maze of winding streets. It's a completely different vibe from the modern skyscraper districts.Overall, visiting Beijing was an absolutely amazing experience that opened my eyes to China's rich history and rapid development into the future. I'll never forget the incredible sights, from the Forbidden City's golden roofs to the glowing modern skyline at night. If you ever get the chance to visit, you have to go! Beijing is one of the most fascinating cities in the entire world.。
