Today, we are going to learn the Using language part in Unit 3. We’ll review tenses and learn

the vocabulary about physical appearances.

Step 1: Analysis of the material

本课语法部分复习了英语中常见的时态形式、意义和语用功能, 并通过对话形式呈现出一家人为祖母筹备生日派对的情境,帮助同学们在真实语境中运用时态,并加深对时态的理解。

词汇部分以电子邮件的形式呈现出描述外貌的词汇与表达,同学们能够在真实的话题语境下学习这些词汇和表达,并通过分类整理的方式构建话题下的词汇语义网,学会在真实语境中运用这些词汇进行表达和交流。

Step 2: Leading-in

Last time, we learned the play, Like Father Like Son. Do you remember the story? Now please

read the sentences to help you retell the story.

Grandfather and Father, seated at the table, are playing chess.

Lawyers help people and are respected by others.

…you said that you wanted to be a professional football player.

…you have found the career that suits your talents.

…you will have two options for your future.

Now, please do the retelling.

Ok, can you retell the story now? The story happens on a Friday night. Grandfather and Father, 2

seated at the table, are playing chess. The son approaches and tells his father that he wants to focus

on his band and have a career in music after graduation. But the father wants him to be a lawyer

because he thinks lawyers help people and are respected by others.

Then the grandfather steps between them and reminds the father of his own experience. When

he was young, he wanted to be a professional football player. But now he has found the career that

suits his talents. So, the father calms down.

The son also takes the grandfather’s advice to think carefully before jumping in with both feet.

The father feels relieved because he thinks the son will have two options for his future.

Step 3: Knowledge learning

Everyone, now please open your book, turn to Page 29 and look at Activity 1. Look at the

sentences again and now decide which tense each is in and match the tenses to what they describe.

Now let’s look at the description.

No. 1 Something that started in the past and is affecting the present. 强调这件事情发生在过去,

且对现在造成了影响。

No.2 Something that is currently taking place. 表示当前正在发生的某件事。

No.3 Something that is certain to take place in the future. 表示将来一定要发生的事情。

No 4. Something that was completed in the past. 描述过去完成的事情。

No 5. Something that happens regularly in the present. 描述现在经常发生的事情。

Now please match the tenses to what they describe.

attention to “are playing”, which indicates something that is currently taking place, so we choose

Sentence b “Lawyers help people and are respected by others.” Please focus on “help”, which

shows something that happens regularly in the present, so we choose No. 5 一般现在时.

Sentence c “You said that you wanted to be a professional football player.” Please pay attention

to “wanted”, which indicates something that was completed in the past, so we choose No. 4一般过去时.

Sentence d “You have found the career that suits your talents.” Please focus on “have found”,

which shows something that started in the past and is affecting the present, so we choose No.1现在完成时.

Sentence e “You will have two options for your future.” Please pay attention to “will have”,

which indicates something that is certain to take place in the future, so we choose No.3一般将来时. Have you got the right answers?

Just now we reviewed the five tenses and learned about the forms and meanings. In order to

help you to have a better understanding of these tenses, let’s look at the timelines. Can you recognize

the features of the timeline? Now let’s have a look. 五条时间轴均分为三个阶段,past, present

and future. 不同颜色代表了不同的时态。请同学们结合我们刚才所复习的时态的意义和功能,把不同的时态和不同的时间轴进行匹配。

First, timeline A. 我们可以看到红线标在现在的阶段, 描述现在经常发生的或习惯性动作,现在存在的特征或状态,是一般现在时,与句子b 相匹配。同时提醒同学们注意,一般现在时还可以表示客观事实或普遍真理。

Timeline B. 我们可以看到蓝线标在过去的阶段,描述过去某个时间发生的动作或产生的状态,是一般过去时,与句子c相匹配。这里请同学们注意,一般过去时还可以表示过去经常发生的或习惯性动作。

Timeline C. 我们可以看到黄线标在将来的阶段,描述将来要发生的动作或产生的状态,即将发生或肯定要发生某事,是一般将来时,与句子e相匹配。同时,一般将来时还可以表示计划、打算、决心去做某事。

Timeline D. 我们可以看到绿线标在现在的阶段,描述此时此刻正在进行的动作或当前一段时间正在进行的动作,是现在进行时,与句子a相匹配。 4

Timeline E. 我们可以看到紫线标在过去和现在两个阶段,描述过去发生的动作对现在产生的结果、影响,是现在完成时,与句子d相匹配。这里提醒同学们注意,现在完成时还可以表示过去的动作或状态持续到现在。
