AAt times my mom has been uncomfortable seeing these qualities in me. For example, when l was 12 I went toPuerto Rico all by myself to stay with my grandmother for the summer. My mom was extremely nervous about it. She kept telling me how things were different in Puerto Rico, to always put on sunscreen, not to wander away from my grandmother, and other warnings. She helped me pack and did not leave the airport until she saw my plane take off.But despite her worries, she let me go on my owm. As l moved into my teens, she continued to give me space to grow and learn, even when it might have been difficult for her. When I reached my senior year, I decided to move away for college. Once again I found that I differed from my peers: While many of them wanted to stay close to home, I couldn't wait to be out in the world on my own While my mom may not have been happy at the thought of me going away, she was supportive and excited for me.One big thing I realized during my senior year, as my mom granted me more freedom, was that she actually believes in me and trusts me. That means a lot. Most of my life, and especially when I was little, the main person I tried to impress-in my schoolwork or other things-was my mother. I knew she expected nothing but the best from me. Sometimes it was hard to live up to her standards; getting a single B onmy report card would make me feel bad because I knew she wanted me to have all A's.I know that her high standards have helped me stayfocused on what's important, like education, and made mewho I am. For some, lush greenery is the most important component to their meditation garden, while others want running water or stones. If you live close to another house or apartment, you will want to create privacy, This can be done by including a canopy(华盖)of some sort or putting inattractive screens. An arbor(亭子)can be built, withclimbing plants to shield you from view.Your garden should also be comfortable. Make sure that you include comfortable seating, or a comfortable area to practice yoga or meditation. Temperature should also be taken into account, so consider which side of your home is sunny and which side tends to be windier or shadier, and make your decision about location basedon these criteria. In addition, think about the type of plants you want in your meditation garden. Unless you are prepared to spend a lot of time on gardening, look for native plants which do not require much upkeep. Plants which grow quickly can help create the space for meditation that you are looking for,and greenery helps put most people in a calmer frame of mind.25.What is the most important aspect of a meditation garden?A.Having comfortable and nurturing space.B. She had been an active woman, raised a family and had engaged in helping others, and developed her own crafts to sell at selected craft shows throughout the year. When I met her for the first time, I couldn't believethat she was in her late seventies-l would have placed her age more in her early sixties. After speaking with her for a short period, it was only then that the conversa tion seemed to turn to age. And, it wasn't a conversation about the frailty(虚弱)of age, or the aches and pains, or about pleasures lost. The conversation, instead, focused on her zest for life and all the things that she was in the planning stages of doing. And, what she was planning to do wasn't about goingto a seniors group so she and her husband could go on an escorted bus tour. What she was planning was an excursion(远足)to Europe, unaccompanied by anytour operator or taken around the usual sights by a local guide. She really impressed me a lot because of her zest for life; for an uncompromising view of the future not in the least affected by her age; for the undying faith in knowing that there was a great deal of life yet to be discovered and experienced and yearning for each new image, discussion, smell, cultural uniqueness or experience.33.
