My Day from Sunrise to Sunset

Hi there! My name is Emma and I'm 9 years old. I go to

Oakwood Elementary School and I'm in 4th grade. Today I'm

going to tell you all about my daily routine from when I wake up

until I go to bed at night. It's a pretty busy day!

My day starts bright and early at 6:30am when my mom

comes into my bedroom and gently shakes me awake. "Rise and

shine sleepyhead!" she'll say in a cheerful voice. I groan and pull

my covers up over my head - I'm definitely not a morning person!

But mom is persistent and eventually I drag myself out of my

cozy bed.

The first thing I do is head to the bathroom to brush my

teeth and get ready for the day. I put on my favorite Wonder

Woman t-shirt, a pair of jeans, and my lucky green sneakers.

Once I'm dressed, I go downstairs to the kitchen for breakfast.

Dad is usually there making pancakes or french toast. My

favorite is when he makes chocolate chip pancakes - yum! I load up my plate and pour myself a big glass of orange juice. After

breakfast, I put my dishes in the sink and run back upstairs to

make sure I have all my school supplies packed up in my

backpack.

At 7:45am, my dad gives me a goodbye kiss on the cheek

and I head out the door to wait for the school bus. It arrives

promptly at 8am and I climb aboard, waving to my dad as the

bus pulls away from the curb. The ride to school takes about 20

minutes.

I get dropped off at Oakwood Elementary at 8:20am. I have

10 minutes before the first bell rings, so I usually hang out with

my best friends Sophia and Jacob on the playground. We chat

and maybe play a quick game of tag or hide and seek.

The bell rings at 8:30am and we all line up by classroom. My

teacher Mrs. Palmer greets us with a smile and we head inside to

start our day. The morning is filled with lessons and activities. We

have reading time, math class, science, and more. At 11am we go

to lunch and recess.

For lunch I'll typically have a peanut butter and jelly

sandwich, some carrots, an apple, and a juice box from my

lunchbox that mom packs each morning. After I'm done eating, I

head outside to the playground for recess. Sophia, Jacob, and I spend the entire time running around and playing games like

four square or kickball with our other friends.

Recess ends and we go back to class for more lessons in the

afternoon. We have social studies, writing practice, and usually

an art or music period too. Finally, at 3pm the final bell rings and

school is over for the day!

I meet my mom in the pickup line out front and she drives

me home. Once we get back to the house, I drop my backpack

and head outside to play for a bit if the weather is nice out. I

might ride my bike around the block, jump on my trampoline, or

just run around in the backyard. Around 5pm, mom calls me in

for dinner.

For dinner we'll have foods like tacos, spaghetti, chicken

nuggets, or my absolute favorite - mom's homemade macaroni

and cheese! After dinner, I clear my plate and then I'm allowed to

watch a little TV or play some video games until my 8pm

bedtime.

At 8pm, mom makes me take a bath and get my pajamas on.

I brush my teeth again and scramble into bed. Mom comes in to

tuck me in and read me a bedtime story. Once the story is done, I

give mom and dad hugs and kisses and they turn off my light. "Sleep tight, don't let the bedbugs bite!" mom always says as she

closes my door.

And just like that, another jam-packed day in my life has

come to an end. I snuggle down under my covers and drift off to

sleep, already dreaming about all the fun and adventures

tomorrow will bring. Being a kid is hard work but it's also a ton of

fun!
