一篇包含了220个常见词sight words的文章二战期间美国学者E.W.Dolch针对5-8岁儿童读物的词汇进行统计分析后，整理出220个使用频率较高的英文单词，制作了非常实用的Dolch Sight Words List，这些词在教科书、报刊上出现的概率高达60-80%。

Dolch根据分级阅读的容、学段将这些词汇分为5个等级，成为自然拼读、阅读教学的一个重要参考依据。
