A

McDull (麦兜) is a popular cartoon pig. He first appeared in a comic in HongKong and is now a film star!

People love him because he dreams of a better life . Things don’t always go welll for him but he never stops trying.

Everyone knows McDull, but do you know about the man who created him?

Brian Tse (谢立文) was born and grew up in HongKong. As a child he was a very good artist and enjoyed

drawing. He also loved films and cartoons. He left school and went to university in Sydney, Australia to study

computer science. However, it was cartoons that he really liked , not computers.

It was the work of a British cartoonist that really inspired Brian. This cartoonist was Raymond Briggs. He is

known all around the world for his cartoon storybooks. One of his most famous books is called The Snowman..

Brian returned to HongKong and began working on his cartoons. Soon his work was published in the Ming Pao

Weekly (明报)。 He also wrote some cartoon books.The he created the famous McDull, a “not very clever pig”,

trying hard to get good grades and go to the University of HongKong.

McDull has become so popular that Brian has made several films about him, and he is now famous around

the world.
