Our tutors have developed tasks and materials drawn from academic textbooks and journals to ensure that your English tuition is relevant in an academic context. For listening practice we have a series of lectures specially recorded by lecturers at Heriot-Watt University.
You will study:
academic English for writing, reading, listening and speaking for business and technical degrees
information technology with English language
study skills to encourage reflective independent learning
background studies in business, maths or science and technology
English for use in everyday situations
culture (in particular, Scottish culture and society)
By the end of the programme, you will have developed sufficient English language skills to: cope with authentic, spoken English in lectures and seminars
take relevant notes from listening and reading material and use these in essays and seminar presentations
understand English grammar at sentence, paragraph and text level
understand academic texts
write in an appropriate academic style to describe, explain and persuade your audience
use a wide range of academic vocabulary
use IT to research academic subjects
solve problems and think critically as required for university study
Once you have successfully completed the programme, we will not ask you to take IELTS or other external English examination again.

英国小学阶段主要确立了“三门核心课程，六门基础课程”的教育体系。

上部分我们了解了去英国读语言课的好处，这部分我们就来谈谈申请语言课的时间、费用和其他的相关问题！语言班的时间和费用是多少？语言班的学费与时间长短有关，一般语言班短则4-6周，长到20-25周不等，不同大学同样时长的语言班费用也不同，比如同样是6周语言班，UCL学费为£3,350，布里斯托大学为£2,300，利兹大学为£2,100，谢菲尔德大学为£1770。

提前多久着手准备上语言班？一般4月份，不少学校10周和8周课就已经截止或是爆满了，所以有上语言班计划的同学大概从1-2月份就要着手准备了，不要期待四五月实在考不过雅思，还能有语言班作为plan B。

什么时候开始申请语言班合适？每个学校语言班开始申请时间各不相同，最早的在1月就开始接受申请。

而截止时间一般在课程开始时间前3个月左右，如果申请人数已满则会提前截止。

建议大家早做准备。

因为语言班的位置也是有限的。

如果没有达到学校雅思入学要求，又错过了语言班的申请，除非再次考取符合要求的雅思成绩，并预留出签证的时间，否则就会耽误一整年时间。

挂科率高吗？挂科了怎么办？学校不会明确给出挂科率，因为每年入读的学生情况不同。

如果挂科且补考不过的话，可能就要提前结束课程回家了。

但以老师过来人经验告诉大家，只要每天按时去上课，认真完成布置的作业，一般不会挂科的。

雅思成绩考够了，还读语言班值不值？语言课是为入读硕士课程打好基础，基本每天2-3节课，一节课大约2个小时，会有听、说、读、写和专业课课程。

学生要完成的论文往往与专业课相联系，所以入读语言班不仅是提高英语交流能力，更是适应英国教学方式与文化社交的重要途径。

提前为研究生课程的学习积累经验。

小班教学，跟老师交流机会多，语言课都是小班。

一个班10-15个学生，老师可以照顾到每个学生，指导和修改作业与论文，指导提升写作和口语水平。

在硕士阶段，如果要交论文就直接交了，教授不会提前给你看一遍，告诉你哪块需要改。
