Unit 1 My name's Gina.

Hello, this unit is mainly about introducing oneself. We learn some

basic expressions. For example, "My name's...", it is a very common way to

tell others your name. And "Nice to meet you" and "Nice to meet you, too",

they are used when you meet new people. We also have words like "first

name" which is your given name, and "last name" which is your family name.

In English, the order is different from some other languages.

Unit 2 This is my sister.

In this unit, we talk about family members. There are words such as

"father", "mother", "sister", "brother", "grandfather", "grandmother" and

so on. We can use "This is..." to introduce family members to others. For

example, "This is my sister. Her name is...". And we can also describe them

a little bit, like "She is very kind." or "He is tall."

Unit 3 Is this your pencil?

Here we focus on things in the school. There are a lot of school things

like "pencil", "pen", "eraser", "ruler" etc. We learn to use "Is this...?"

and "Is that...?" to ask if something belongs to someone. The answer can be

"Yes, it is." or "No, it isn't." We also can say "It's mine/yours/his/hers"

to show possession.

Unit 4 Where's my schoolbag?

This unit is about the location of things. Words like "on", "in",

"under" are very important. For example, "The book is on the desk." "The

ball is under the chair." We can ask "Where is...?" to find out where

something is. And the answer can be "It's on/in/under...". Unit 5 Do you have a soccer ball?

We talk about sports things and whether someone has something in this

unit. Words like "soccer ball", "tennis ball", "ping - pong ball" are

included. We use "Do you have...?" to ask. The answer can be "Yes, I do."

or "No, I don't." And we can also say "Let's play... (soccer/tennis etc.)"

to suggest playing a sport together.

Unit 6 Do you like bananas?

Food is the main topic here. There are many kinds of food, like

"banana", "apple", "hamburger", "ice - cream" etc. We use "Do you like...?"

to ask about someone's preference. The answer can be "Yes, I like... very

much." or "No, I don't like...". And we can also use "I like... for

breakfast/lunch/dinner." to talk about what we like to eat at different

meals.

Unit 7 How much are these socks?

This unit is about shopping and prices. We have words for clothes like

"socks", "shirts", "trousers", "skirts" etc. And we use "How much is...?"

for a single item and "How much are...?" for more than one item to ask

about the price. The answer can be "It's... dollars." or "They're...

dollars."

Unit 8 When is your birthday?

We talk about birthdays in this unit. Words like "January", "February",

"March" and all the months are important. We use "When is your birthday?"

to ask. And the answer can be "My birthday is in... (month)." We can also

talk about ages. For example, "I'm... years old."

Unit 9 My favorite subject is science. This unit is about school subjects. Subjects like "science", "math",

"English", "history" etc. are mentioned. We use "My favorite subject is..."

to say which subject we like the best. And we can also say "I like...

because...", to give the reason why we like a certain subject.
