This decision was made because the heavy traffic brings about traffic jams and pollutes the air. Another reason is that most citizens only need to travel within a distance of five kilometers when they travel to work or go to school. People welcome this move, saying that they have the freedom to go and stop as they wish, which helps them to relieve stressand lead a relaxing life. Besides, it is so friendly to the environment that it should be promoted in other cities.读写任务1(南海中学王娟)Qixi Festival, the Chinese Valentine's Day that fell yesterday, was not only a disappointment for forgotten lovers, but also for businessmen left with empty pockets. Worse still is the suggestion that young people are beginning to turn their backs on traditional Chinese festivals, celebrating them with less and less enthusiasm. Compared to the Western Valentine's Day on February 14, fewer chocolates, roses and cards were sold and even the number of wedding ceremonies was much lower. Many young people are not even aware of the Qixi Festival or its cultural meaning, as media survey showed. The cold reception has made cultural experts seriously worry that the lovers' festival, marked for generations since the Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 220), is dying out. Some have even called for laws to make the festival a legal "Chinese Lovers' Day," which falls on the seventh day of the seventh month of the lunar year.A growing number of traditional Chinese festivals, such as the Dragon Boat Festival and Mid-Autumn Festival, share the same fate as the Qixi Festival. Young people are showing less interest in traditional culture as symbolized by these festivals.[写作内容]1、以约30个词概括短文的内容;2、以约120个词谈谈你对“传统节日”的看法,并包含以下内容:⑴ 我国传统节日不受重视的原因;⑵ 传统节日的意义;⑶ 应该怎样保护传统节日?[写作要求]1、你可以使用亲身经历或虚构的故事,也可以参照阅读材料的内容,但不得直接引用原文中的句子;2、文中不能出现真实姓名和学校名称。
广东省佛山市南海区2023-2024学年高三上学期开学摸底测试英语试题学校:___________姓名:___________班级:___________考号:___________一、阅读理解Few women would consider a pair of scissors to be daily essential that they need to have in their purses. But for Shi Qinling, who is currently working at the Fenglin community cultural center in Shanghai, this tool has been with her everywhere she goes for the past decade —not as a means of self-protection but artistic expression.“Paper-cutting is not about cutting random patterns from paper. Writers tell stories using words. I do the same, but with a pair of scissors,”Shi said.Shi developed an interest in craft (工艺) when she was a child. This interest later developed into a passion, one that she decided to pursue by majoring in arts and crafts design during her time in university. After graduation, however, she found herself working at a ship design company as she was unsure about what she wanted to do with her future. About a year later, the Shanghai Arts and Crafts Research Institute offered her a position in their paper-cutting department. Realizing that she still had a love for the craft, she made the career switch. In 2010, Shi started learning paper-cutting from Xi Xiaoqin, a paper-cutting expert. Three years later, one of her works, The Fighting Fish, won third place at the Baihua Cup, a competition for Chinese arts and crafts. Over the past decade, Shi’s works have been exhibited in 23 exhibitions.Although Shi is already so skilled in the craft that she can create an animal pattern in 10 minutes without even having to draw the outlines, she continues to improve her skills every day. The reason is that she views paper-cutting as not just an art form, but also a form of learning about traditional Chinese culture. She thinks she has the responsibility to attract people from different age groups and different fields to try paper-cutting.1.Why does Shi Qinling always carry a pair of scissors with her?A.To fix things on the go.B.To show off her creativity.C.To make paper cuts anytime.2.What is paragraph 3 mainly about?A.What Shi Qinling did in university.B.How Shi Qinling got rid of the boredom.C.How Shi Qinling started paper-cutting career.D.Why Shi Qinling resigned from her previous job.3.What best describes Shi Qinling?A.Selfless and adaptable.B.Creative and humorous.C.Devoted and generous.D.Talented and responsible.Michael and his wife had recently moved into a new apartment building in SanFrancisco when they met a neighbor who is an Indian priest (牧师).The priest, Jeff Dunan, 77, told Michael about an organization he volunteers for, which provides food, clothing and essential supplies to poor people in northern Bangladesh. The man decided to donate to the GoFundMe campaign, and settled on$150. “I thought it was a good cause, and a neighborly thing to do,” he said.Shortly after making his donation on the GoFundMe campaign that day in February 2022, though, Michael received information from his credit card company, warning him of a suspiciously (可疑地)large business. He opened the text message, which warned him of a $15,041 charge from GoFundMe. When he saw the five-figure number, he couldn’t believe it.Soon, it all made sense. Michael’s credit card number started with four and one. Clearly, he said, he accidentally began typing his credit card information while his cursor(光标) was still in the donation box.Michael called GoFundMe’s support line in a panic and explained the mistaken donation. To his relief, he was told he would be refunded for the mistake within three to seven business days.Still, there was a major complication: The $15,000 donation — which more than doubled the total amount raised at the time — would remain on the GoFundMe page until the refund was processed.“I was like, oh no, that’s a problem,” Michael recalled. When I was a kid, I didn’t think about my body all that much. My attitudes towards my body changed around middle school when people were talking about staying“in shape”and going on diets. And thus I started to internalize the harmful standard that we have to look good all the time.Looks are given far too much importance in our society. Women are supposed to look perfect all the time. We’re supposed to idolize (崇拜) celebrities who have far more time and money to spend on their appearance than the average person. It’s simply not attainable.I love the idea of body positivity. I firmly believe that everyone should try to love themselves as much as possible. However, it’s almost impossible to love every part of your body all the time. Personally, I could never achieve that. It’s a good idea to promote body positivity in theory, but it also allows us to beat ourselves up because we don’t love ourselvesBody neutrality (中立) is a much more attainable goal. Body neutrality promotes the idea that your body is simply your body instead of thinking something is good or bad. This mentality is easier to achieve, and it doesn’t force you to try to love things you don’t love. We don’t need to love every part of our body —it’s just a body.Another way to view your body is to be thankful for everything that it does for you rather than how it looks. For example, I am grateful that my body allows me to go skiing because I love skiing. This shift in mentality can be helpful because it focuses on your body’s ability to do things you love, instead of your appearance.Ultimately, the ideal mentality is loving every part of your body all the time. However, the more realistic alternative is accepting your body for what it is and what it does for you. Love can come after, but neutrality is a good place to start.8.Why did the author change her attitude towards appearance around middle school?A.Because she was influenced by others.B.Because she began to dislike her body.C.Because she thought it important to stay in shape.D.Because she failed to meet her school’s standards.9.What is the author’s attitude towards body positivity?A.Supportive.B.Doubtful.C.Prejudiced.D.Indifferent. 10.What does body neutrality promote?A.Pursuing perfection in terms of body image.B.Trying to change your appearance constantly.C.Loving every part of your body unconditionally.D.Accepting your body as it is without judgment.11.What is the suggested mentality towards your body?A.Ignoring its limitations.B.Focusing on appearance.C.Being grateful for its capabilities.D.Being critical of its imperfections.New research has discovered that adult howler monkeys use play to avoid conflict and reduce group tension, with levels of play increasing when they are faced with limitedHowler monkey play involves individuals hanging from their tails(尾巴)and making facial expressions and signals, such as shaking their heads. However, play is an energy-costly activity for howler monkeys, who generally have an inactive lifestyle due to their mainly leaf-based diet. The researchers examined how play varies with age, and they measured the amount of time adults play with other adults and with juvenile monkeys within their groups. By studying seven different groups of howler monkeys in the rain forests of Mexico and Costa Rica, the researchers found that the amount of adult play is linked to the number of potential playmates, increasing in line with the size of the group. Adults spend more time playing with other adults, rather than juveniles, and adult females spend more time engaged in play than adult males.Crucially, the researchers found that play among adults increases in line with time spent searching for fruit. Howler monkeys typically eat leaves, and fruit is a highly prized resource that generates competition among the monkeys. Lead author Dr.Norberto Asensio, of University of the Basque Country, said,“One theory for the positive effect of fruit consumption on play is that a fruit-based diet simply provides the howler monkeys with more energy compared to their typical diet of leaves.”“If this was the case, we should have observed adults engaging in more play with other adults of the group, instead of young monkeys during fruit searching. Because young monkeys do not pose a threat or provide competition at fruit trees, we believe that play among adults is a method for solving conflicts within the group, in a similar way that grooming(梳理毛发) is used by some other animals.”12.What was the focus of the researchers’ observation?A.What food the monkeys eat.B.What influence the monkeys’ play.C.How long the monkeys stay together.D.How big the monkeys’ play groups are.13.What does the underlined word “juveniles”in paragraph 3 probably mean?A.Young animals.B.Foreign groups.C.Team leaders.D.Family members.14.What do we know about howler monkeys according to Norberto Asensio?A.They love grooming.C.Young monkeys are not competitive.D.Adult monkeys don’t care about the young.15.What can be the best title of the text?A.Fruits— crucial source of energyB.Howler monkey — a special group live with peaceC.Monkeys play — an important means for harmonyD.Conflicts —unavoidable problems among monkeys二、七选五How to Live a Fulfilling LifeHow awesome would it be to get out of bed each morning feeling purposeful and happy about your day? What about going to sleep each night with a grin(露齿的笑)of satisfaction on your lips? 16 Here are some tips that may help you.● 17To lead a more fulfilling life, you first need to know what part of your current life is troubling or unsatisfactory. Reflect on different aspects of your life to figure out which are upsetting you the most. Try closing your eyes and questioning “What part of my life dissatisfies me the most?” Whatever comes to mind first is probably where you’ll want to start.● Building good habits. One of the best ways to build good habits that support a fulfilling life is by doing something each day that challenges you. Identify one thing you can take action on that pushes you beyond your comfort zone and do it. This might be sharing ideas with your boss when you typically stay quiet. 18 For example, if you’ve been trying to lose weight, but you spend too much time on the couch, reduce your time on TV or do an exercise while you watch.● Having good health and well-being.19 You’ll have trouble feeling fulfilled if your energy only goes out. Just as you pour love and support into others, you must return that love and support to yourself. Take time to improve your own self with passions or self-care.
其次由于句子逻辑意思理解出错而混淆and, but, or, 或not...but, not only...but also...,neither...nor等的用法。
This is the factory_which/that__ he visited yesterday. This is the factory _where/in which he worked last year.3.whose作定语,表示“先行词的...”,后面加名词。
4.介词+which/whom的区别。
5.that与which的区别。
6.as与which的区别。

I wanted to stop the Sahara Desert in its tracks.” A decrease in average rainfall and an increase in the severity of droughts have led to an estimated 75 percent of Tunisia’s agricultural lands being threatened by desertification.Toumi recognized that farming practices needed to change. She is confident that small land areas can bring large returns if farmers are able to adapt by planting sustainable crops, using new technologies for water treatment and focusing on natural products and fertilizers rather than chemicals. In 2012, Toumi consolidated (巩固) her dream of fighting the desert. She moved to Tunisia, and set up a programme named Acacias for All to put her sustainable farming philosophy (理念) into action. “I want to show young people in rural areas that they can create opportunities wh ere they are. Nobody is better able to understand the impact of desertification and climate change than somebody who is living with no access to water.”By September 2016, more than 130, 000 acacia trees had been planted on 20 pilot farms, with farmers recording a 60 percent survival rate. Toumi estimates that some 3 million acacia trees are needed to protect Tunisia’s farmland. She expects to plant 1 million trees by 2018. In the next couple of years, Toumi hopes to extend the programme to Algeria and Morocco.4. How did Toumi’s holiday trips to Tunisia influence her?A.They made her decide to leave the country.B.They helped her better understand her father.C.They aroused her enthusiasm for helping others.D.They destroyed her dream of being a teacher.5. What is the main cause of the desertification of Tunisia’s farmland?A.Low rainfall. B.Soil pollution. C.Cold weather. D.Forest damage. 6. Why did Toumi set up Acacias for All in Tunisia?A.To create job opportunities for young people.B.To help the children obtain a basic education.C.To persuade the farmers not to use fertilizers.D.To promote the protection of their farmland.7. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?A.Saving Water in Tunisia B.Holding back the SaharaC.Planting Trees of Native Species D.Fighting Poverty in North AfricaDo you ever hear a friend speak on a topic with the belief that “everyone”thinks the same way? Do you often find yourself surrounded in a social media feed that is completely tailored to you and your beliefs, reading along without the immediate realization?A social media echo chamber (回声壁) is when one experiences a tailored media experience that leave out opposing viewpoints and differing voices. Social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube connect groups of like-minded users together based on shared content preferences. As a result, people see and take in information according to our preexisting beliefs and opinions. Social media companies therefore rely on algorithms (算法) to assess our interests and flood us with information that will keep our attention. The algorithms focus on what we “like”, and “share” to keep feeding content that makes us comfortable. In order to truly get access to all information and to evaluate our media, we must give ourselves the opportunity to step out of our comfort zone. While this becomes increasingly challenging, there are things we can do. The first step is to beef up your media consumption sources. Adding in a few media sources with differing opinions will allow you to at least understand what people are saying outside of your echo chamber. Next, read each thing you see with a critical eye. Make sure that each thing you accept as truth is truly fact. Lastly, attempt to search out reliable new sources that are known for trying their best to leave out false information. By accepting that our media buffet on social media is a product of our present beliefs and opinions, we can work to make sure we are not simply stuck in a social media echo chamber.8. What is a result of the social media echo chamber?A.People contact like-minded online users effectively.B.People keep reading for more differing viewpoints.C.People rely on algorithms to evaluate their interests.D.People only get information confirming their beliefs.9. What does “beef up”underlined in paragraph 3 mean?A.Track. B.Improve.C.Provide. D.Identify.10. Which of the following can help us get out of the echo chamber?A.Criticizing fake news on social media.B.Exposing ourselves to opposing voices.C.Researching primary sources of information.D.Accepting our present beliefs and opinions.11. What is the purpose of the text?A.To call on people to use algorithms frequently.B.To ask people not to take in information blindly.C.To promote the use of various social media sites.D.To inform people of new technology developments. In 1977, Irene Pepperberg, a Harvard graduate, decided to investigate the thought processes of another creature by talking to it. To do this, she would teach a one-year-old African gray parrot (鹦鹉), Alex, to reproduce the sound of the English language.Pepperberg bought Alex in a pet store, where she let the store’s assistant choose him because she didn’t want other scientists to s ay that she had intentionally chosen an especially smart bird. Given that Alex’s brain was just the size of a walnut, most researchers thought Pepperberg’s communication study would be futile. But with Pepperberg’s patient teaching, Alex learned how to fol low almost 100 English words. He could count to six and had learned the sound for seven and eight. But the point was not to see if Alex could learn words by heart. Pepperberg wanted to get inside his mind and learn more about a bird’s understanding of the world. In one demonstration, Pepperberg held up a green key and a green cup for him to look at. “What’s the same?” she asked. “Co-lor,” Alex responded without hesitation. “What’s different?” Pepperberg asked. “Shape,” Alex quickly replied. His voice had th e soundh of a cartoon character. But the words—and what can only be called the thoughts—were entirely his. Many of Alex’s skils, such as his ability to understand the concepts of “same” and “different”, are rare in the animal world. Living in a complex society, parrots like Alex must keep track of changing relationnships and environments.During the demonstration, as if to offer final proof of the mind inside his bird’s brain, Alex spoke up. “Talk clearly!” he commanded, when one of the younger birds Pepper berg was also teaching mispronounced the word “green”。

This decision was made because the heavy traffic brings about traffic jams and pollutes the air. Another reason is that most citizens only need to travel within a distance of five kilometers when they travel to work or go to school. People welcome this move, saying that they have the freedom to go and stop as they wish, which helps them to relieve stress and lead a relaxing life. Young people are showing less interest in traditional culture as symbolized by these festivals.[写作内容]1、以约30个词概括短文的内容;2、以约120个词谈谈你对“传统节日”的看法,并包含以下内容:⑴我国传统节日不受重视的原因;⑵传统节日的意义;⑶应该怎样保护传统节日?[写作要求]1、你可以使用亲身经历或虚构的故事,也可以参照阅读材料的内容,但不得直接引用原文中的句子;2、文中不能出现真实姓名和学校名称。
