After reading A Thousand Splendid Suns
“One could not count the moons that shimmer on her roofs, and the thousand splendid suns that hide behind her walls”.It’s from an ancient poem which was in praise of the wonderful city Kabul,the capital of Afghan.Today , what we can get from all media about Afghan,seldom has no connection with the Taliban ,the war, or somewhat a armed conflict.But,in the beginning of this book,the author gives us a peaceful,charming place.The exotic mosque’s temple was shinning softly in a cozy morning,little children gathered together running and laughing,the tempting smell of barbecue fulfilled you heart when you woke up.Kabul,once led everyone there a wonderful life,has already attracted me.With such a smooth beginning, the story went on with a large change,just liked a boat attacked by a storm.
Maria,one of the heroines in this book,spent her part of youth in such a memorable place ,with her rest life liked a nightmare.As a child without father,Maria really had a relatively easy life in her girlhood,till a ridiculous compulsory marriage came to her.The blow of her father’s rejection taught the fifteen-year-old girl that “The man’s heart is a cruel thing”,casting a shadow on her growing mind especially on her marriage.Her husband,Rachid,a devil with a bad temper,always found any chance to beat her.The everlasting boring and hard life gave Maria a totally desperation .
It could be hard for me to imagine how she faced her seven times abortion and the never-forgotten heart hurt of the children’s loss.She was really a innocent girl ,but the cruel reality and unfair social rules has already damaged her . No matter what kind of the pain she suffered , physically or mentally hurt , Maria,a common Afghan woman,just endured,and beared.She would keep her Kabul life as a treasure,liked a spiritual pillar in her hellish life in Afghanistan.
