Hybrid
TransceiverThe TR3005 ul tra-miniature hy brid trans ceiver is ideal for short-range wireless med ical data ap -
plications where robust operation, small size, low power consumption and low cost are required.
The TR3005 em ploys RFM’s amplifier-sequenced hybrid (ASH) architecture to achieve this
unique blend of characteristics. All crit ical RF functions are con tained in the hy brid, sim pli fy ing
and speed ing design-in. The re ceiver sec tion of the TR3005 is sensitive and stable. A wide dy -
namic range log de tec tor, in combination with dig ital AGC and a com pound data slicer, pro vide
ro bust per for mance in the presence of on-channel interference or noise. Two stages of SAW fil -
tering pro vide excellent receiver out-of-band re jec tion. The transmitter includes provi sions for
both on-off keyed (OOK) and amplitude-shift keyed (ASK) modulation. The transmitter em ploys

1. Typical sen si tiv ity data is based on a 10-3 bit er ror rate (BER), us ing DC-balanced data. There are two test meth ods commonly used to
mea
sure OOK/ASK receiver sensitivity, the “100% AM” test method and the “Pulse” test method. Sensitivity data is given for both test meth -
ods. See Ap pen dix 3.8 in the ASH Trans ceiver De signer’s Guide for the details of each test method, and for sensitivity curves for a 2.2 to
3.7 V supply voltage range at five operating temperatures. The ap pli ca tion/test circuit and com po nent val ues are shown on the next page and
in the De signer’s Guide.
2. At low data rates it is possible to adjust the ASH pulse gen er ator to trade-off some re ceiver sensitivity for lower operating cur rent. Sensitiv -
ity data and re ceiver cur rent are given at 2.4 kbps for both high sensitivity operation (RPR = 330 K) and low cur rent op er ation (RPR = 1100 K).
