立夏习俗之尝新 Cháng Xīn
尝新,即品尝当年刚产出的新鲜食物。在我国寒冷的北方地区,人们在冬季已经吃了 数月的地窖食品;而在立夏时节,地里开始有新的收成。因而,人们会在立夏一起品尝 新鲜食物来庆祝收获的开始。
Chang Xin means to taste the newly-harvested fresh food. In the cold northern areas of China, after people have had no fresh food to eat but the food stored in cellars for months in winter, they begin to have new harvests in the fields as the Beginning of Summer comes, so people would like to taste fresh food together to celebrate the beginning of the harvest.
二候蚯蚓出
In the second pentad, underground earthworms will dip up the soil, perceiving the warm temperature on the ground.
三候王瓜生
In the third pentad, trichosanthes cucumeroides quickly climb along vines and grow fast, and will bear red fruit later in June and July.
