Unit 13 People单元综合检测Ⅰ.阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)A(2020·辽宁六校协作体高二下期中)I've always felt a need to be prepared for whatever situation I've found myself in.My mother once took me to a store when I was seven years old.She and I got to the checkout counter, and she realized she had forgotten a couple of things on her shopping list. She left me with the cart and ran off to get what she needed.“I'll be right back.” she said. She was gone just a few minutes, but in that time,I had loaded all the things on the belt and everything was rung up.I was left staring at the cashier, who was st aring at me.“Do you have money for me,son?” she said.“I'll need to be paid.”I didn't realize she was just trying to amuse herself. So I stood there, ashamed and embarrassed.By the time my mom returned,I was angry.“You left me here with no money! This lady asked me for the money, and I had nothing to give her.”Now that I'm an adult, you'll never catch me with less than 200 in my wallet.I want to be prepared in case I need it.I've always admired people who are overprepared. In college,I had a classmate named Norman. One day he was giving a presentation on an overhead projector and in the middle of his talk, the light bulb on the projector blew out.We would have to wait ten minutes until someone found a new projector.“It's Okay.” he announced.“There's n othing to worry about.”We watched him walk over to his bag and pull something out.He had broughtalong a spare bulb for the overhead projector.Who could even think of that?I often told my students,“When you go into the wilderness, the only thing you can d epend on is what you take with you.” And essentially, the wilderness is anywhere but your home or office. So take money.Pack a light bulb.Be prepared.【语篇解读】本文属于记叙文阅读,作者通过讲述两个小故事告诉我们凡事都要做好准备。

] B(2020·云南曲靖一中高二下期中)Coffee drink is widespread. When people argue about whether coffee is good for health, they're usually thinking of the health of the coffee drinker. Is it good for your heart? Does it increase blood pressure? Does it help you concentrate? However, coffee affects the health of the human population in other ways, too.Traditionally, coffee bushes were planted under the shade of taller trees. However, more and more farmers in Latin America are deforesting the land to grow full sun coffees. At first, this increases production because more coffee bushes can be planted if there aren't any trees. With increased production come increased profits.Unfortunately, deforesting for coffee production immediately decreases the local wildlife habitat, because native birds nest and hide from predators(捕食者)in the tall trees and migrating birds rest there.Furthermore,in the long term, the fullsun method also damages the ecosystem because more chemical fertilizers and pesticides(杀虫剂)are needed to grow the coffee. The fertilizers and pesticides kill insects that eat coffee plant, and then the birds eat the poisoned insects and also die.The chemicals kill or sicken other animals as well, and can even enter the water that people will eventually drink.Fortunately, farmers in Central and South America are beginning to grow more coffee bushes in the shade. We can support these farmers by buying coffee with such labels as “shadegrown” and “birdfriendly”.Sure, these varieties might cost a little more. But we're paying for the health of the birds, the land, ourselves, and the planet.I think it's worth it.【语篇解读】本文作者通过展示由阳光种植法种植的咖啡的缺点,来号召我们支持咖啡的传统种植,以保护环境,有益于健康。
