With her constant encouragement and guidance, I have finished my paper. Now, it is the show time. I will present my efforts to you and welcome any correction. The title of my paper is On Transformation of Parts of Speech in Translation.Ichoose this as my topic due to the following reasons. Different languages have different standards to distinguish parts of speech. Each language has its own special structure. And there are no equivalent parts of speech between different languages. In order to make the target version more idiomatic and standard, the transformation of parts of speech is always used by translators. So the transformation of parts of speech is playing a more important role in English to Chinese based on different characteristics of English and Chinese. For the above facts, I select the subject of“On Transformation of parts of speech”as the title of my paper.Ihope by studying this topic we can know the importance of the transformation of parts of speech in English to Chinese translation. Through transformation, we can get the better version and improve the translation skills. The way of thinking and expressing is quite different between Chinese and English. English is a kind of static languages which tends to use more nouns. While Chinese is a dynamic one in which verbs are often used.So when we make translation in English to Chinese, we should know this point and shift the parts of speech.Next, it is an outline of my paper. In the main part of this paper, I divide it into five parts.Part one presents an introduction to the basic concepts of parts of speech and transformation.Part two discusses the definition of translation and emphasizes the importance of transformation of parts of speech in the course of translation.Part three gives four basic ways of transformation of parts of speech through illustrative examples. There are transformed English words into Chinese verbs, nouns, adjectives and adverbs.Part four presents some problems about transformation and gives some advise to solve the problems.Part five draws some conclusions that transformation between parts of speech is necessary for us to achieve good translation. It is demonstrated that we can have a good master of transformation and improve the translation. In addition, we must continuously study and explore in all kinds of translation practices. OK! That is all. Thank you! Please ask questions。

Plea of DefenseGood morning, all respectable professors and defense committee members. Thank you very much for giving me a chance to stand here for my oral defense. I am Wayne. First and foremost, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my respected supervisor---Professor Li. It is with her constant encouragement and valuable guidance that I have finally accomplished this thesis, which I am going to present here in this show time. And I welcome any correction. The title of my paper is An Experimental Study on the Effects of Lexical Chunk Instruction on Senior High School Students’ Spoken English. Here in my following presentation, I am going to tell why I choose the theme of my research, how the research is designed and what are obtained from the research.Research Orientation (Objective)As is stated in the title, the research is done for the purpose of probing(probe调查;探测)the effect of lexical chunk instruction on senior high school students’ spoken English. It also aims to explore some practical methodological suggestions for the oral English teaching in senior high school.Rationale for the study (Why)Why I choose this topic is due to two reasons. First, senior high school students often meet problems in English speaking, the current situation of senior high school students’ spoken English is far from satisfactory. Being an English teacher of senior high school, I am eager to find an efficient method to solve the unsatisfactory situation. Next, inspired by the previous studies of lexical chunk instruction, which is an effective way to teach English, but few experimental studies on senior high school students’ spoken English have been conducted. I hope to prove the feasibility of the lexical chunk instruction in senior high school, finding an effective way to improve the students’ spoken English.Research QuestionsBased on the preceding review, the essay deals with the speaking perspective aiming to answer the following two questions:1. Can lexical chunk instruction enhance senior high school students’ confidence in English speaking?2. Can lexical chunk instruction help senior high school students improve their spoken English? Here is an outline of my thesis.1. Introduction2. Literature Review3. Theoretical Framework4. Methodology5. Data Analysis and Discussion6. ConclusionsThere are six parts in this essay including the introduction, the literature review, the theoretical framework, the methodology, the data analysis and discussion, and the conclusions. The Chapter One briefly introduces the background of the study, pointing out the purpose and significance of the research, and describes the organization of this thesis The Chapter Two is a literature review about the studies of lexical chunks. It provides the previous studies on the lexical chunk at home and abroad. Besides, an overview of lexical chunk instruction to the teaching of English speaking is presented. The Chapter Three is the theoretical framework. First it states the definition and classification of the lexical chunk, presents the main theory foundation of lexical chunk from the perspective of psychological theory, and then introduces the lexical chunk in L1 and L2 acquisition. What’s more, the concept and principle of the Lexical Approach are presented. Finally it states the evaluation criterion of the spoken language. The Chapter Four tells how the research is designed. It mainly consists of 3 parts—the subjects, the instruments, and the procedures. The subjects were 109 students from two natural classes (an experimental class (Class17) and a control class (Class18) ) in Grade Two in Heyuan Middle School. They were classed randomly according to the placement test(安置考试).Three instruments were used in the study. They were questionnaires, tests (a pre-test and a post-test), and interviews.Pre-test and Post-rest are Computer-based English Listening and Speaking Test from 2013 and 2014 Guangdong College Entrance Examination papers. The two test papers are almost of the same difficulty. CELST is a module of national matriculationEnglish test, consisting of three parts: Reading Aloud, Role Play and Retelling. In order to make sure to have an objective analysis, the man-machine interaction evaluation system is used to mark the test, and the grammatical errors, number of chunks and speaking fluency in the Part C of retelling are especially analyzed. In the end a statistic analysis is made on the test result of the EC.The questionnaire I & II (selected from programming projects at provincial level) aimed at exploring the subjects’awareness of lexical chunk in their learning, and comparing their confidence, attitudes and habits in English speaking before and after the experiment.I also used some prepared questions to interview about 20 interviewees from different levels. It helps to examine the effect of the lexical chunk instruction, get further information about the learners’attitude and confidence to the lexical chunk instruction. The experiment fell into 3 phases [feɪz]Step 1: I carry out the pre-test, collect and analyze the data of the pre-test, got the mean score , standard deviation and P-value of the two classes by SPSS; The questionnaire I was given to the EC and the CC at the beginning of the experimental in order to learn the students’ confidence, attitudes and whether all students have had lexical chunks notion.Step 2: Lexical chunk instruction is carried out in the English oral classrs, the whole process of lexical chunk instruction is divided into three parts: 1. In the second week of the semester, the author made an exposition of the chunk knowledge, making clear about the definition, the classification and function of the chunk, and finally raised the awareness of chunk learning in their minds. 2. The next step is guiding students to apply lexical chunks to English speaking from Week3 to Week 17, which is the internalization of lexical chunks by practice. The content of oral practice lessons are specially designed for each unit. The activities are watch and say, look and say, listen and speak, retelling, etc. Lexical chunks are usually listed and emphasized during the oral activities. 3. The final step is the summary, revision and consolidation after class.Step 3: I carry out the post-test, questionnaire II and interviews for the later comparison and analysis. In Chapter 5, I analyzed the data from the questionnaires, tests and interviews, and made a discussion of the experiment in order to answer the research questions raised in Chapter 1.Finally, the Chapter Six makes the conclusion of this thesis. Here are the major findings of the experiment: 1. According to the contrast on the number of chunks in retelling between the EC and CC from the pre-test and the post-test, it is found that the lexical chunk instruction helps to enrich the content of students' spoken English. 2. According to the English grammatical errors and the fluency in students’ retelling, we found that after the implementation of lexical chunk instruction, the students of the EC make greater progress than the CC in the accuracy and fluency of spoken English So we can make a conclusion that EC make more significant progress in their spoken English after the implementation of lexical chunk instruction. From the questionnaire survey and interviews, we know students in EC became more confident and held a positive attitude to lexical chunks learning. Most of them believed that their vocabulary is enlarged with the increase of the number of lexical chunks, and that the accuracy, fluency of their spoken English as well as the flexibility to use English are improved satisfactorily. Now, with the analysis and the results, it can be safe to draw a conclusion that Lexical teaching has an effect on improving senior high school students’ spoken English. And with the experiment progressing, students show more confidence in their English speaking.Chunk is an ideal teaching unit in improving senior high school students’ spoken English. In the process of foreign language acquisition, the lexical chunk instruction deserves more discussion and exploration. That is all of my Plea of Defense. Thank you for your attention. I am looking forward to your corrections.。

英语专业硕士毕业答辩陈词Good morning, distinguished professors and teachers, ladies and gentlemen, thank you for attending the oral defense. First and formost, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my supervisor, Professor Wu Wei, for her intellectual guidance, invaluable instructions and comments on my thesis. It is with her valuable assistance that I have finally accomplished this thesis. The title of my paper is The Linguistic Analysis on The Discourse of English Broadcast News. I choose this as my topic due to the following reasons. Firstly, news has become one of the main recourse to get information. Secondly, study news can help us better understand culture. Last but not the least, being a reporter was one of my dreams, though it will no longer come true, I still hope I can do some devotion in the study of the analysis on news discourse to provide some helpful principles for news reports. Next, I will present it to you. Here is an outline of my presentation. This paper consists of seven parts.Part one presents an introduction to the whole thesis by pointing out the purpose and significance of this study. The purpose in this thesis is to conduct a comprehensive and systematic comparison and analysis of features of the discourse of English broadcast news. The significance of this thesis is to indicate similarities and differences between Chinese and English broadcast news in terms of transitivity and modeling of Hall iday’s Systemic Fun ctional Grammar. And to explain the different functional results between Chinese and English news reports. It is hoped that the study will not only enable students to overcome their difficulties in listening English news reports, to increase their understanding of English news reports, to raisetheir interests of learning English, but also provide the news reporting criterion to the journalists and reporters, especially to those who are working for international news agencies.Part two is literature review which introduces the relevant research about discourse analysis at home and abroad and then points out the theoretical basis and methods. In this chapter, the author introduces the origin of discourse analysis, and some very helpful theories in analyzing news discourse. In this part, it overviews some common knowledge related to news, including definitions of news, the characteristics of news, and the inclusion relationship between discourse and news discourse.Part three gives a detailed introduction to lexical analysis on the discourse of broadcast news and explains the lexical characteristics of English broadcast news. In Chapter 3, the author introduces lexical density, which is a kind of mathematical method to measure how much meaningful information is included in news report. And in lexical analysis on the discourse of broadcast news, it has several features that it is common that we always see powerful words, which are always simple, and contraction words and acronyms are used in news reports. Besides, nouns are always used as attributives to save reporting time and make the reports briefer. Numerals always appear in news to dedicate the scientific and authentic characteristics of news. Fuzzy terms and hedges are also used to show the respect of practice and facts.Part four makes the syntactic analysis on the discourse of English broadcast news. In this chapter, we can see some syntactic features of broadcast news. Usually, there are more expressions and fewer sentences are used in broadcast news. Of course, we use both simple sentences and complete sentences toenrich the news. Assertive sentences have absolute advantages in news reporting. Furthermore, it is common to see the appositions used in news. This phenomenon usually occurs to introduce an important person or an organization in news. Besides, there is also an interesting form in news that we usually use an inanimate subject plus an animate verb, which makes news sound more vividly.Part five explains in detail the features of English broadcast news from the perspective of theme-rheme structure and information structure. In this chapter, the author analyzes several instances in broadcast news fromthe perspective of theme, rheme and information structure. In this part, it changes our traditional opinion that the theme should be corresponding to given information, while the rheme should be corresponding to unknown information. That is because broadcast news is a kind of discourse containing large information. In this part, the author explains and analyzes seven patterns of theme-theme structure.Part six makes an analysis on broadcast news discourse according to Halliday’s Systemic Functional Grammar. In this Chapter, the author makes the analysis on English broadcast news in context by Halliday’s Syst emic Functional Grammar. In this thesis, we mainly focus on transitivity and modeling theories. By utilizing the two different aspects of Systemic Functional Grammar, this thesis analyzes the news examples in terms of their communicative functionality; that is, how each text seeks to deal with potentially contentious propositions, how it acts to win over audience to its particular evaluative position, and how its lexico-grammatical and text organizational choices serve to lend more or less covert support to the particular stance each news reporteradopts. The result not merely showed how skillfully the writers utilize various news resources to achieve their purposes but it also demonstrated how powerful analytical tools Systemic Functional Grammar can be in analyzing news discourse. Finally, in the conclusion, the author summarizes the previous parts and emphasizes the significance of the argument of the thesis again.Although a lot of efforts have been made in this study, there are still some aspects that need to be improved.First of all, the corpora employed in this paper are relatively small in size, and the samples selected may not be representative to some extent, which result in limited accuracy of the research results and findings. Thus more examples need to be examined. Besides, owing to the limitation of space and the author’s limited knowledge and ability, only some distinctive features are compared and analyzed on each level. All in all, comparative study is a good choice; further studies can make a contrast between Chinese and English languages and cultures to better reveal the differences of news discourses under different languages and cultures.经过了半年的准备,总算顺利做完了毕业论文的所有工作。

Ladies and Gentlemen,Good morning/afternoon. It is my great honor to stand before you todayto defend my master's thesis. My thesis title is "Exploring the Impactof Social Media on Consumer Behavior: A Case Study of E-commerce in China." I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my advisor, professors, and fellow students for their invaluable guidance, support, and encouragement throughout this journey.IntroductionFor the past two years, I have been engaged in the research of social media's impact on consumer behavior, particularly in the context of e-commerce in China. The rapid development of social media platforms, such as WeChat, Weibo, and TikTok, has transformed the way people communicate, share information, and make purchases. This thesis aims to explore the factors influencing consumer behavior on these platforms and provide insights for e-commerce businesses in China.MethodologyTo achieve this goal, I employed a mixed-methods research approach. I began by conducting a comprehensive literature review on social media, consumer behavior, and e-commerce. Subsequently, I conducted an online survey and interviews with consumers and e-commerce professionals to gather primary data. The data were then analyzed using descriptive statistics, content analysis, and thematic analysis to identify patterns and trends.FindingsThe findings of this study reveal several key insights into the impactof social media on consumer behavior in the context of e-commerce in China:1. Social media has significantly influenced consumer purchasing decisions by providing information, reviews, and recommendations.2. The use of social media platforms has increased the awareness and exposure of e-commerce products and brands.3. Consumers are more likely to make purchases from e-commerce websites that have a strong social media presence.4. Influencer marketing has become a crucial strategy for e-commerce businesses in China, as it helps to build trust and credibility among consumers.DiscussionThese findings have important implications for e-commerce businesses in China. Firstly, it is essential for e-commerce platforms to leverage social media to increase their visibility and credibility. Secondly, businesses should invest in influencer marketing to reach a wider audience and establish brand loyalty. Lastly, e-commerce platforms should focus on providing high-quality products and services to satisfy consumer needs and expectations.ConclusionIn conclusion, this thesis has demonstrated the significant impact of social media on consumer behavior in the context of e-commerce in China. By understanding the factors influencing consumer behavior on social media platforms, e-commerce businesses can develop effective strategies to enhance their online presence, increase sales, and build long-term customer relationships.Thank you for your attention and time. I am now ready to answer any questions you may have regarding my thesis.Thank you.---[Note: This is a simplified example of a master's thesis defense presentation. In a real-life scenario, the presentation would likely be more detailed, with visual aids, data visualizations, and a more in-depth discussion of the methodology and findings.]。
Good morning/afternoon, everyone. I am here to present my thesis for the Master of Arts in English program. My thesis is titled "Exploring the Use of Language in Contemporary American Literature." In this thesis, I investigate the ways in which language is used in literature to express and communicate different ideas and themes. I analyze several contemporary American novels and short stories, including works by authors such as Toni Morrison, Junot Diaz, and David Foster Wallace. My research shows that language plays a crucial role in contemporary American literature. Through the use of various linguistic devices and techniques, writers are able to convey complex ideas and emotions. One example of this is the use of code-switching in Diaz's "The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao," where he uses both English and Spanish to explore issues of identity and belonging.I also examine the concept of linguistic experimentation in literature, particularly in Wallace's "Infinite Jest." By pushing the boundaries of language and form, Wallace creates a unique reading experience that challenges readers to engage with the text in new ways.In addition to analyzing these works, I also conductedinterviews with several authors to gain insight into their writing processes and the role of language in their work. These interviews provided valuable perspectives on the significance of language in literature and the challenges of using language to effectively communicate complex ideas. In conclusion, my thesis highlights the importance of language in contemporary American literature. By studying the ways in which language is used in these works, we can gain a deeper understanding of the complexities of human experience and the power of literature to communicate these experiences. Thank you.。

fame. Then, there is someone has favor for literature and also be for fame. The third kind is some people who have explicit goals at the beginning of his writing. And the last kind are some people who just want to express their view, their viewpoint and their feeling with no desire of being published. They take up the most of the authors. The third part, the development. The network novels’ development can not separate form the development of the net and the literature websites.Itsdeveloping process may be divided into three stages approximately. The first stage is from 1996 to 2000.This time's literary work often did not strive for(were also not aware of)the fame and fortune, and moreover received the control of tradition. The second stage is beginning of 21st century, mainly contains 2001 and 2002.In this period, the whole network presented thesituation of “chaos”.The third stage is from May, 2003 and continues until now.In this period, many schools come into the world, and when a school became a hit there must be many people mimic it.The last part, the forecast.Looking from the internal strength pattern, the outstanding writers in our country mainly hold one kind of critique and the pessimistic manner to the network novels at present. If each big literature website enlarges their own supervision, delete the vulgar works, the pornography and bad works like those things, meanwhile hanker for new person’s new article as well as depth ones, the network novels can be accepted by more people. Not a low-level novel but a kind of enjoyment.
Good afternoon, all appraiser committee members, Long time no see, Cedar Cai and zhou, so nice to see you all again. it’s my greatest honor to be here to present my research results to all of you I am **** and my supervisor is ***. With his encouragement and guidance, I have finished my paper. Here comes my presentation and any correction and suggestions will be warmly welcome. The title of my paper is The Study of Network-based English Reading Teaching in Primary Schools Today I’m going to discuss three questions with you.Why did I choose this topic for my study? How did I design my research? And What’re the results? And in my thesis,a nd I divide them into five chapters. First, why? Nowadays, some problems of the Eng lish reading teaching should be mentioned in regard to the large class of primary school teaching. Such as the low effectiveness of class management, the large restriction of communicating, in particular, one-on-one communication; and the actual teaching methods used by teachers, including the simple teaching form, the little information that is taught, the untimely feedback and the poor study effectiveness.Concerning the above problems, I attempt to use the network environment to teach reading better in primary schools, Three research questions have been raised in the study:1)Does the Network-based reading teaching affect the students’ learning attitude?2)Can the Network-based reading teaching raise the students’ learning interest? 3)Canthe Network-based reading teaching improve the students’ English reading ability?Under the guidance of Krashen’s Input H ypothesis, Krashen’s Affective Theory, the Constructive Learning Theory and the Cooperative Learning Theory, as well as on the base of the new English curriculum reform and the advantages of multimedia networks, I began to start my research, how did I do it?i selected 90 students in a primary school to do my research so that i can experience the theories. The students were divided randomly into two classes (the experimental class and the control class). And i gave two reading lessons per week in these two classes. it was an important job to select reading materials for implementing the reading activities and administering tests. i need to consider three aspects: language\length and interest. And I adopted On-line EFL at Elementary School as the basal material and some interesting reading materials from The PEP textbook were used as supplementary materials. All the experimental data were collected through different instruments:A questionnaire was distributed to 45 students in experimental class; 90 students in Experiment Class and Control Class were required to complete the pre-test in order to investigate whether both classes were equivalent in previous reading.A classroom observation and teachers’ interview were designed to get the data ofthe following aspects, such as the students’ learning attitude and reading interest under the network environment. Finally, after the experiment, the post-test and post-experiment questionnaires were carried out. They were analyzed by SPSSWith experiment nearly one year, I found out that in the experimental class the students performed better in the post-test than in the pre-test. There was a tendency of sharp increase in their reading performance, the students’ English ability was improved. And with the experiment progressing, students showed more interest in network-based reading class. The results of this study highlight the value of the network-based reading teaching. It can be sure that using the network environment to teach reading in primary school is practical and efficient. At the same time, some practical suggestions of network-based English reading teaching have been made for primary English teachers according to the conclusion of the experiment. The suggestions are as follows: 1) raising the s tudents’reading interest by the real situation,2) improving the literacy of both the teachers and the students, 3) encouraging the students to use effective reading strategies and skills, 4) designing different reading activities in network classroom can be helpful to control the students, 5) exploring other network-based activities.Although the present thesis has obtained some findings, we are fully aware that there are some methodological limitations left, which should be avoided in future research. 1、The number of the chosen students is not big enough,2、The present research did not treat other factors under the present conditions. In the end, I should like to say that NBLT has been valuable experience for me which has given me a chance to expose the students to modern educational conceptsand network-based technology, refreshed my approaches and attitudes towards English teaching and upgraded my reading teaching skills in classroom teaching. Finally, I would like to express my deepest thanks to all of your attention.I am honored to be given the opportunity to advance my teaching skills and in the future, I shall continue to do so, enabling our future generations to develop. That’s all. And time for your questions。
