第一篇When our Eyes Serve our StomachOur senses aren't just delivering a strict view of what's going on in the word; they're affected by what's going on in our heads. A new study finds that hungry people see food-related words more clearly than people who've just eaten.Psychologists have known for decades that what's going on, inside our head affects our senses. For example, poorer children think coins are larger than they are, and hungry people think pictures of food are brighter, Remi Radel of University of Nice Sopbia-Antipolis, France, wanted to investigate how this happens. Does it happen right away as the brain receives signals from the eyes or a little later as the brain's high-level thinking processes get involved?Radel recruited 42 students with a normal body mass index. On the day of his or her rest, each student was told to arrive at the lab at noon after three or four hours of not eating. Then they were told there was a delay. Some were told to come back in 10 minutes; others were given an hour to get lunch first. So half the students were hungry when they did the experiment and the other half had just eaten. For the experiment, the participant looked at a computer screen. One by one, 80 words flashed on the screen for about 1/300th of a second each. They flashed at so small a size that the students could only consciously perceive. A quarter of the words were food-related. After each word, each person was asked how bright the word was and asked to choose which of two words they'd seena food-related word like cake or a neutral word like boat. Each word appeared too briefly for the participant to really read it.Hungry people saw the food-related words as brighter and were better at identifying food-related words. Because the word appeared too quickly for them to be reliably seen, this means that the difference is in perception not in thinking processes, Adel says."This is something great to me, Humans can really perceive what they need or what they strive for. From the experiment, I know that our brain can really be at the disposal of our motives and needs," Radel says.31、What does the new study mentioned in Paragraph 1 find____?A.Hungry people see every word more clearly than ordinary people.B.Hungry people are always thinking of food-related words.C.Hungry people are more sensitive to food-related words than stomach-fullpeople.D.Hungry people do not have lower-level of thinking process.32、What have psychologists known for a long time____ ?A.Poorer children think coins are larger than they are.B.Hungry people think pictures of food are brighter.C.Hungry people see food-related words more clearly.D.What we think inside our head affects what we sense.33、Why was there a delay on the day of the experiment____?A.Because hungry people needed time to fill their stomach.B.Because Radel wanted to create two groups of testees, hungry and non-hungry.C.Because noon was not the right time for any experiment.D.Because Radel needed time to select participants in terms of body mass index.34、What did the results of the experiment indicate____?A.80 words flashed on the screen too fast for the participant to intentionally perceive.B.Hungry people were better at identifying neutral words.C.People who had just eaten were better at identifying food-related words.D.The participants could barely perceive what they needed or what they strived for.35、What does the writer want to tell us____?A.Human's senses aren't just delivering a strict view of what's going on in the world.B.What's perceived by our senses affects onr way of thinking.C.Human brains can really be at the disposal of our motives and needs.D.Thinking processes guarantee the normal functions of our senses.根据材料,回答36-41问题第二篇Musical Robot Companion Enhances Listener ExperienceShimi, a musical companion developed by Georgia Tech's Center for Music Technology, recommends songs, dances to the beat and keeps the music pumping based on listener feedback. The smartphone-enabled (智能手机支持的), one-foot-tall robot is billed as an interactive"musical friend"."Shimi is designed to change the way that people enjoy and think about their music," said Professor Gil Weinberg, the robot's creator. He will unveil the robot at the June 27th Google I/O conference in San Francisco. A band of three Shimi robots will perform for guests, dancing in sync with music created in the lab and composed according to its movements.Shimi is essentially a docking station with a "brain" powered by an Android phone. Once docked the robot gains the sensing and musical generation capabilities of the user's mobile device. In other words, if there's an "app" for that, Shimi is ready. For instance, by using the phone's camera and face-detecting software, Shimi can follow a listener around the room and position its "ears", or speakers, for optimal sound. Another recognition feature is based on rhythm and tempo. If the user taps a beat, Shimi analyzes it, scans the phone's musical library and immediately plays the song that best matches the suggestions. Once the music starts, Shimi dances to the rhythm."Many people think that robots are limited by their programming instructions," said Music Technology Ph.D. candidate Mason Bretan, "Shimi shows us that robots can be creative andinteractive. " Future apps in the works will allow the user to shake their head in disagreement or wave a hand in the air to alert Shimi to skip to the next song or increase/decrease the volume. The robot will also have the capability to recommend new music based on the user's songchoices and provide feedback on the music play list.Weinberg hopes other developers will be inspired to create more apps to expand Shimi'screactive and interactive capabilities. "I believe that our center is ahead of a revolution that will see more robots in homes. " Weinberg said.Weinberg is in the process of commercializing Shimi through an exclusive licensing agreement with Georgia Tech. Weinberg hopes to make the robot available to consumers by the 2013 holiday season. "If robots are going to arrive in homes, we think that they will be this kind of machines -- small, entertaining and fun," Weinberg said. "They will enhance your life and pave the way for more intelligent service robots in our lives.36、Which of the following is NOT true according to the first three paragraphs____?A.Shimi is a one-foot tall robot.B.Shimi is the creator of the musical companion.C.Shimi is a docking station (对接站) with a "brain" powered by an Androidphone.D.Shimi can gain the sensing and musical generation capabilities of the user‘s mobile device.37、What does Shimi do if the user taps a beat____?A.It stores the beat in the musical library.B.It transmits the beat to the docking station.C.It positions its speakers for optimal sound.D.It selects a perfectly-matched song.38、Compared with those robber limited the programming, Shimi is____A.sameB.similarC.identicalD.different,39、What is the prediction of Weinberg about Shimi____?A.Shimi can be applied to all types of smart phones.B.Shimi will bring more fun to the human lives.C.himi will be appreciated by all users.D.Shimi will be commercialized by the end of 2012.40、What can we infer from the last paragraph____?A.The research center is developing a stronger and more versatile Shimi.B.Georgia Tech. will develop more apps for Shimi.C.Shimi is not yet technologically ready for commercialization.D.Robots such as Shimi are created for large corporations rather than homes.根据材料,回答41-46问题。

On my last trip to Disneyland(1999) we passed it by, because we didn't want to spend the time on something we didn't really enjoy. If we'd known it would be closed by our next visit, I'm sure we would have watched it one more time. I was just making the point that it wasn' t until Disney announced the closing that this feeling suddenly sprang(弹跳) up for the C'ountry Bear show at Disneyland. But I think the idea of keeping some attractions open forever regardless of the number of visitors it gets is a mistake. We all have great memories of the Bears, but clearly very few kids today ( or I should say families today) are making those same memories from this show. That may be a sad fact, but it' s a fact. For whatever reason, the show doesn' t pull in the numbers. Isn' t it right to use the Country Bear space to bring in more popular attraction so that more kids today can make those magic memories of an attraction they like? Otherwise aren't we just telling the kids today that .they" have to" make great memories of the Bears, when it's obvious that the kids themselves are not enjoying the Bears as we did?Roger: I am very disappointed that they have decided to retire the Country Bear Playhouse. I remember going to the show as a child, and still enjoying it as a teenager, and now as a young adult. It is true that there aren' t a lot of shows left at DL and with this one closing even less. Being at DL does require a lot of walking, and it is nice to have an attraction that is a place to sit and enjoy a good show. I understand that DL has to develop, but there has to be some history to the Disney-land that Walt Disney first designed. There should be some parts of DL that just never go away and this is one of them. By the time I have children it looks like there won' t be any attractions that I can say. I went as a child at the rate they are going. Now the Bears are leaving. What I want to say is: stop trying to compete with everyone! DL is the best, because of attractions like the Country-Bears. If DL insists on destroying all of its magic to make way for the latest, well, then it might as well be just another theme park.46. What news might get people talking about the problem of the Country Bears?A. The Country Bear Playhouse will be closed.B. There will be a new attraction for our guests at Disneyland.C. The number of visitors to the Country Bear Playhouse is falling.D. The Bears will retire because of old age and can' t give shows any more.47. Allen spoke mainly to get this point across that _________.A. the Bears will be missedB. we should tell the kids today that they "have to" make great memories of the BearsC. the longtime attraction ought to make way for a future attractionD. people never care about what they have until all is lost48. Give the best choice to complete Roger' s idea: the Country Bears have been a part of Disney-land for nearly 30 years, _________.A. and I feel it is time to give our bears a good restB. but anyway, the attraction is no longer interestingC. but I know that Disneyland will always be changing, and I accept thatD. and I am sad that the Bears will be leaving49. Which of the following is NOT in the same group as the other three?A. An attraction.B. A theme park.C. The Bears.D. The latest magic.50. Where can this passage be found?A. In a Web discussion zone.B. In a suggestion book.C. In a report on the popularity of the Country Bears.D. In high school students' compositions.DThe days of elderly women, doing nothing but cooking huge meals on holidays are gone. Enter the Red Hat Society---a group holding the belief that old ladies should have fun."My grandmothers didn't do anything but keep house and serve everybody. They were programmed to do that," said Emily Cornette, head of a chapter of the 7-year-old Red Hat Society. While men have long spent their time fishing and playing golf, women have sometimes seemed to become unnoticed as they age. But the generation now turning 50 is the baby boomers(生育高峰期出生的人), and the same people who refused their parents' way of being young are now trying a new way of growing old.If you take into consideration feminism(女权主义), a bit of spare money, and better health for most elderly, the Red Hat Society looks almost inevitable (必然的). In this society, women over 50 wear red hats and purple(紫色的) clothes, while thewomen under 50 wear pink hats and light purple clothing."The organization took the idea from a poem by Jenny Joseph that begins: When I am an old woman, I shall wear purple. With a red hat which doesn' t go," said Ellen Cooper, who founded the Red Hat Society in 1998. When the ladies started to wear the red hats, they attracted lots of attention."The point of this is that we need a rest from always doing something for someone else," Cooper said, "Women feel so ashamed and sorry when they do something for themselves. " This is why chapters are discouraged from raising money or doing anything useful. "We' re a ladies' play group. It couldn' t be more simple," added Cooper' s assistant Joe Heywood.51. The underlined word "chapter" in Paragraph 2 means _________.A. one branch of an organizationB. a written agreement of a clubC. one part of a collection of poemsD. a period in a society's history52. From the text, we know that the "baby boomers" are a group of people who _________.A. have gradually become more noticeableB. are worried about getting old too quicklyC. are enjoying a good life with plenty of money to spendD. try living a different life from their parents when they were young53. It could be inferred from the text that members of the Red Hat Society are _________.A. interested in raising money for social workB. programmers who can plan well for their futureC. believers in equality between men and womenD. good at cooking big meals and taking care of others54. Who set up the Red Hat Society?A. Emily Cornette.B. Ellen Cooper.C. Jenny Joseph.D. Joe Heywood.55. Women join the Red Hat Society because _________.A. they want to stay youngB. they would like to appear more attractiveC. they would like to have fun and live for themselvesD. they want to be more like their parentsEThe evidence for harmony may not be obvious in some famihes. But it seems that four out of five young people now get on with their parents, which is the opposite of the popularly-held image (形象) of unhappy teenagers locked in their room after endless family quarrels. An important new study into teenage attitudes surprisingly shows that their family life is more harmonious than it has ever been in the past. "We were surprised by just how positive today' s young people seem to be about their families," said one member of the research team, "They' re expected to be rebellious (叛逆的)and selfish, but actually they have other things on their minds: they want a car and material goods, and they worry about whether school is serving them well. There' s more negotiation(商议) and discussion between parents and children, and children expect to take part in the family decision-making process. They don' t want to rock the boat. "So it seems that this generation of parents is much more likely than parents of 30 years ago to treat their children as friends. "My parents are happy to discuss things with me and willing to listen to me," says 17-year-old Daniel Lazall, "I always tell them when I' m going out clubbing. As long as they know what I' m doing, they' re fine with it. " Susan Crome, who is now 21,agrees. "Looking back on the last 10 years, there was a lot of what you could call negotiation. For example, as long as I' d done all my homework, I could go out on a Saturday night. But I think my grandparents were a lot stricter with my parents than that. "Maybe this positive view of family life should not be unexpected. It is possible that the idea of teenage rebellion is not rooted in real facts. A researcher comments, "Our surprise that teenagers say they get along well with their parents comes because of a brief period in our social history when teenagers were regarded as different beings. But that idea of rebelling and breaking away from their parents really only happened during that one time in the 1960s when everyone rebelled. The normal situation throughout history has been a smooth change from helping out with the family business to taking it over. "56. What is the popular image of teenagers today?A. They worry about school.B. They dislike living with their parents.C. They have to be locked in to avoid troubles.D. They quarrel a lot with other family members.57. The study shows that teenagers don't want to _________.A. share family responsibilityB. cause trouble in their familiesC. go boating with their familyD. make family decisions58. Compared with parents of 30 years ago, today's parents _________.A. go to clubs more often with their childrenB. are much stricter with their childrenC. care less about their children' s lifeD. give their children more freedom59. According to the author, teenage rebellion _________.A. may be a false beliefB. is common nowadaysC. existed only in the 1960sD. resulted from changes in families60, What is the passage mainly about?A. Negotiation in a family.B. Education in a family.C. Harmony in a family.D. Teenage trouble in a family.。
2.【答案】A。
meat“肉,肉类”,stuff“东西”,staff“工作人员”,dish “碟子,盘子”。
题中的roast,prime rib,pie,yoghurt,drinks都属于stuff,故选B。
4.【答案】D。
解析:考查形容词辨析。
分析句子可知空格处应填与shy(害羞的)和unsociable (不爱交际的)意思相反的词,因此选gregarious(爱交际的,合群的)。
5.【答案】B。
解析:考查惯用搭配。
根据由where引导的从句对先行词“()care”的描述,可知该处表示亲属抚养的意思。
kinship care为惯用搭配,意为“寄养,亲属抚养”,符合题意,故选B。
6.【答案】A。
解析:考查倒装句。
nor本身表示否定,后面的助动词不需再用否定形式,且句子要完全倒装。
故选A。
8.【答案】A。
解析:考查英语中带有小数点的数字的读法。
小数点之后的数字要一个一个读出来,之前的数字按照正常规则来读。

proposal was drafted that would advise professors to“be aware of racism, classism, sexism, and other issues of privilege and oppression”in devising their syllabi;and Rutgers, where a student argued in the c ampus newspaper that trigger warnings would contribute to preserving t he classroom as a“ safe space ” for students.Online discussion of trigger warnings has sometimes been guardedly sym pathetic, sometimes critical.Jessica Valenti has noted on The Nation 's website that potential triggers for trauma are so manifold as tobe beyond the possibility of cataloguing:“There is no triggers for warning for living your life.”Some have suggested that a professor's ability to teach would be compromised should it become commonplace for“ The Great Gatsby ”to hear a trigger warning alerting readers to the disgusting characte rs and incidents within its pages.Others have worried that trigger-warning advocates,in seeking to protect the vulnerable, run the risk of d isempowering them instead,“Bending the world to accommodate our personal frailties does not he lp us overcome them” ,Jenny Jarvie wrote on The New Republic's online site.Jarvie's piece, like many others on the subject, cited the University of Calif ornia,Santa Barbara,as a campus where champions of trigger warnings ha ve made significant progress.Earlier this year, students at U.C.S.B.agree d upon a resolution recommending that such warnings be issued in ins tances where classroom materials might touch upon“rape, sexual assault,abuse,self-injurious behavior, suicide, and graphic vio lence ” .The resolution was brought by a literature student who said t hat,as a past victim of sexual violence, she had been shocked when a teacher showed a movie in class which depicted rape, without giving advance notice of the content. The student hoped to spare others the possibility of experiencing a post-traumatic-stress reaction. The trigger-warning debate may,by comparison, seem hard to understand;but express a large cultural preoccupation with achieving safety, and a f ear of living in its absence. The hope that safety might be found, asin a therapist's office,in a classroom where literature is being taught is in direc t contradiction to one purpose of literature, which is to give express ion through art to difficult and difficult and uncomfortable ideas, and thereby to enlarge safe space, nor, probably, should it be.But it's difficult to fault those who hope that it might be,when the outsi de world constantly proves itself pervasively hostile,as well as,on oc casion, horrifically violent.21.Which of the following groups of people are most in favor of “trigger warning ” ?A.StudentsB.ReportersC.FeministsD.Professors22.Which of the following might be a possible change to be designing their syllabi.C.Teachers will give students advance notice of the content that is likely to distress or offend them.D.Teachers will allow students to express different and uncomfortable ideas to enlarge their experience.23.What does the author mean by“ compromised ” in PARAGRAPH3?A.QuestionedB.ImprovedC.ChallengedD.Weakened24.What does“ them” in PARAGRAPH3refer to?A.RisksB.FrailtiesC.TraumasD.Possibilities25.Which of the following can be the negative impact that trigger wa rning exerts on literature teaching according to the writer?A.It may highlight the Hundreds of titles are published every year and are read by all kinds of people. Further more. Some of the most successful films of recent years have been based on science fiction stories. It is often thought that science fiction is a fairly new development in literature but its ancestors can be found in books written hundreds of years ago. These books were often concerned wit he presentation of some form of ideal society, a theme which is still often found in modern stories. Most of the classics of science fiction, however, have been written with in the last hundred years. Books by writers such as Jules V erne and H.G. Wells, to mention just two well-known authors, have been translated into many languages. Modern science fiction writers don’t write about men from Mars of space adventures stories. They are more interested in predicting the results of technical developments on society and the human mind, or in imagining future worlds. Which are reflections of the world which we live in now, because of this their writing has obviously political undertones. In an age where science fact frequently overtakes science fiction, the writers may find it difficult to keep ahead of scientific advances. Those who are sufficiently clear-sighted to see the way we are going, however, may provide a valuable lesson on how to deal with the problems which society will inevitably face as it tries to master its new technology.31. Nearly all but the eastern-edge California Native Americans lived where environmental conditions were favorable, making food relatively accessible. Along the Pacific Coast, they hunted fish and sea mammals by boat. Included were such California tribes as the Chumash, Yurok and Pomo. The Maidu and Pomo principally ate acorns, which have a higher calorie rating than wheat. They pounded the hard nuts with stones and washed out the bitter taste with water. The Pomo crafted what were arguably the finest baskets in all of indigenous America. They made baskets as small as a thimble and as big as a yard in width. They made watertight baskets for cooking acorn mush and seed gruel, as well as for carrying and storing food. They wove especiallybeautiful baskets for presents and as offerings to forebears. Some were bedecked with colorful bird feathers and shells. Their skill also was applied to trays, boats, headgear and baby carriers, such as a wickerwork cradleboard in which an infant spent his first year. Their mothers wore hats that resembled bowl-shape baskets. The California natives lived in communities numbering up to 2,000 with dwellings arrayed in groups. A house consisted of a round frame covered with grass. There was a skylight in the roof and the beds were made on skin-covered frames each with a partition for privacy. In the center of the floor, they made a cook fire for seeds, nuts, fish and other foods. More than 100 languages flourished in California before European contact; most are gone today.36. Hockey Canada has followed the lead of USA Hockey in preventing bodychecking(身体拦截)below age thirteen 41. ________C______ this country's children have been facing similar danger at early ages, and Hockey Canada had to deal with a deep worry in the minds of Canadians to make the rule change. It also made the rules for 13 and up stricter. 44._________E_________It's worth the try.Hockey Canada has taken serious steps to do away with hits on the head. 45. ________B_______. Too often, bodychecking has been used to try to separate a player from his head rather than from the ball. Children were paying a price for this country's love of the games. There are always changes in Canada's game, and the change in the bodychecking age sends the clearest message yet to coaches and parents that player safety is paramount(至上的)in the game.A.
