在中国文化中，颜色的象征意义是基于过去中国几千年的封建统治、封建迷信及其原始、落后的科学、教育状况而形成的，它的发展受到中国社会文化发展的较大影响。所以, 颜色的象征意义有相当强烈的政治化和神秘化倾向。而西方国家经历封建社会时间相对较短，而且在近代和现代，其教育和科学得到普及和飞速的发展，因此，西方文化中的颜色象征则更多地得益于西方民族开放性及科学、教育的普及程度，其象征意义少了神秘，多了些理性，使其语义、词义理据更易追踪。
当然，red有时也表示喜庆，吉祥之意，如把节日、庆祝活动的日子称为red-letter days，如：圣诞老人总是穿着红衣服给小朋友们分礼物；red carpet treatment（隆重地欢迎某人）指迎接贵宾时以铺上红地毯为最高礼遇。Red hat红衣主教的帽子（象征着红衣主教的职位，荣耀和权威）。

本文在分析两种语言中含有色彩词“红”与“黑”的习语的基础上，从语义对比的角度探讨这两种语言在习语运用中的共性与差异，以使学习者在使用习语时表达得体,从而提高语言交际能力。

关键词：习语色彩词语义学共性差异Abstract:There are a number of idioms which contain color words in both English and Chinese for the reason of the richness of language. The paper analyzes both English and Chinese idioms containing two representative color words, “red” and “black”, and basing on that, it discusses the similarities and differences from the perspective of semantic comparison in the use of idioms in the two languages.
