an astonished patient is running away from a horrible open mouth with gleaming fangs. Inside
the giant mouth, four Chinese characters appear: mental problems. The picture implies that
people are afraid of mental problems as if

scary monsters. But below the cartoon,

As the living
standard
improves, people are paying more attention to their
health
conditions. It is true that physical factors affect one’s health a great deal, but at the same time,
we should not neglect our mental health. In the past, people loathed to be related with mental
problems, yet scientific research has proven that anger, suspicion and anxiety do great harm
to our body, while being optimistic can cure certain diseases. We have also heard that a great
many optimistic people live much longer
than
doctors predicted after they have been
diagnosed incurable diseases. Therefore, we should attach importance to our mental health,
and if we have psychological problems, we should face
them bravely and
resolve them as
soon as possible.
In my point of view, mental health is as important as physical health to us, and to make
people healthier both physically and mentally, there is no other way than adopting a positive
attitude toward life.

As is depicted in the cartoon, while the aged parents are exerting all their efforts to push a baby
carriage, their grown-up son is lying in the carriage, comfortably drinking from a baby bottle. The
poor mother is asking in despair, “When is the end of taking care of our son?” The caption indicates:
“Self-independence”.
While many young men choose to be NEET (Not currently engaged in Education, Employment or
Training), as the cartoon illustrated above, it is still crucial for us to earn self-independence. One
reason is that it can improve our efficiency and productivity. In our everyday life, there will always be
occasions when we are unable to obtain outside assistance and have to depend on our own knowledge
and skills to solve problems. Under these circumstances, those who trust their own abilities and
judgment will find creative solutions, enabling them to be more productive and successful. In addition
to fostering greater efficiency in our daily life, self-dependence can also help make life more
meaningful. Since self-reliant individuals possess confidence in their own abilities, they also tend to
be more willing to try new things. This kind of do-it-yourself activities can yield a sense of
satisfaction and pride, and add excitement to an otherwise mundane life.
In the final analysis, I maintain that it is imperative for young people to depend on themselves. Since
self-reliance can boost our efficiency and add meaning to our lives, it is a desirable trait to possess for
youngsters.
