Your brain lies to you a lot. We’re sorry to have to tell you this but it’s true. Even when your brain is doing important and difficult stuff, you’re not aware of most of what’s going on.___56___ For the most part, it’s doing a great job, working hard to help you survive and achieve your goals in a plicated world. Because you often have to react quickly to emergencies and opportunities, your brain usually tries to get a simple answer in a hurry rather than a perfect answer that takes time to work out. But as the world is not simple, this means that your brain has to take shortcuts and make a lot of assumptions. ___57___The problem starts when the brain takes in information from the world through the senses. Even if you are sitting quietly in a room, your brain receives far more information than it can hold on to or than you need to decide how to act. You may be aware of the detailed pattern of colours in the rug, the photographs on the wall and the sounds of birds outside. ___58___ Usually these things aren’t important so we don’t often notice how much information we lose. When people look at plicated pictures, they can identify differences if the images remain still. But if the image moves quickly, then they have a lot more trouble. ___59___ To test this, psychologists have tried more interesting ways of getting people to fail to notice things. In one of our favorites, a researcher approaches someone on the street and asks for directions. While the person is replying, workmen carry a large door between the two people, blocking their view of each other. Behind the cover of the door, the person who asked for directions is replaced by another researcher who carries on the conversation as if nothing had happened. Even when the second person looks very different from the first, the person giving the directions has only about a fifty per centchance of noticing the change. ___60___A. Your brain’s lies are in your best interest—most of the time—but they also lead to predictable mistakes.B. This is because we imagine that we remember more details than we really can.C. The experiments illustrate that you perceive only a little bit of what’s going on in the world.D. Your brain selectively processes details that are important for you to notice.E. Your brain perceives many other aspects of the scene initially but quickly forgets them.F. This happens because our visual memory isn’t very good.G. Your brain doesn’t intend to lie to you, of course.
Making Requests___39___. In Portugal, this would be a serious mistake, because it shows the chef that you don’t like their seasoning skills. Mexicans consider it inappropriate to eat with utensils(器具)D. Don’t get caught making an embarrassing mistake at a restaurantE. It’s a good sign for the chef if you make a mess around your plateF. Never stick them upright in your food or cross them as you use themG. It may seem like a simple request to ask for salt and pepper at a meal段首设空特点:常为段落主题句。

But there’s a difference between being a victim and living with a“victim mentality”.At some pointin all of our lives ,we’ll have our trust tested or violated.● You didn’t lose“everything”.Once trust is lost, what is left Instead of looking at the situation from this hopeless angle, look at everything you still have and be thankful for all of the good in your life.(5)Instead, it’s a healthy way to work through the experience to allow room for positive growth and forgiveness.?A. A good listener? Fun to be around? They don’t have to be world-changing, just aspects of your personality that you’re proud of.A.Now list all the characteristics you like about yourself.B. Whatever it is, no matter how small it might seem, write it down.C. It doesn’t mean you have to ignore what’s happened or forget it.Part 3 Check Task 8 in the pre-class assignment.Part 4 Apply what you have learned.【2023年浙江一考】With gas prices rising and airport security lines snaking longer than ever, why not book your next domestic vacation on a train? Compared to other alternatives, it's comfortable and relaxing. Here is some advice on how to make a trip by rail as pleasant as possible.Plan ahead. Most long-distance trains, especially the sleeping car accommodations, sell out very quickly. 36 But no matter when you travel, it's a good idea to make your reservations at least 90 days in advance.Use a travel agent. Consider turning your travel plan over to a travel agent and letting him double-check all the details, make suggestions, and then handle the actual reservations. A good one can sometimes find you discounted tickets. 37 Then you won't have to walk through several cars on a moving train three times a day for your meals.Bring a blanket. When you're riding on trains, you won't be provided with a blanket for free, even if your trip is an overnight one. 38 In the summer in particular, the air conditioning can make them quite cold.Arrive early. Most trains operate just once a day and some run only three times a week, so missing yours can be a disaster. 39 Note: The times listed on the schedules are departure times, not arrival times.Have fun.40 Read a book, knit, do a crossword puzzle, or simply watch the world unfold outside the window. To calculate your speed as you do, divide 3,600(the number of seconds in an hour)by the number of seconds it takes you to travel one mile(the distance betweentwo mileposts). If it takes the train 53 seconds to travel one mile, you're going 67.92 mph.A. Train trips aren't for impatient types.B. You'll have views from both sides of the train.C. The temperature on rail cars is often hard to control.D. That's particularly true during busy summer months.E. You might have to wait longer than 24 hours to catch the next one.F. Chances are the cost will be a lot less than the cost of one bedroom.G. He may also book you in a sleeping car that's right next to the diner.Part 5 Design a sentence-filling drill.Underline the sentence that you want to make a gap. Explain your intention.

A grasp of how to manage color in your spaces is one of the first steps to creating rooms you’ll love to live in. Do you want a room that’s full of life? Professional? Or are you just looking for a place to relax after a long day? 36 , color is the key to making a room feel the way you want it to feel.Over the years, there have been a number of different techniques to help designers approach this important point. 37 , they can get a little complex .But good news is that there’re really only three kinds of decisions you need to make about color in your home: the small ones, the medium ones, and the large ones.38 . They’re the lit tle spots of color like throw pillows, mirrors and baskets that most of us use to add visual interest to our rooms. They require a bigger commitment than smaller ones, and they have a more powerful effect on the feeling of a space. The large color decisions in your rooms concern the walls, ceilings, and floors.
连接词,如also, however等;3.
